So, I recently saw the trailer for the upcoming Persona 4 anime. It looks... pretty damn good:

Given the spotty history of video game adaptations in the past, I'm glad to see that this looks as good as it does. Although this probably wasn't difficult, given how anime-like Persona 4 was in the first place.

So, what are some of your favorite video game adaptations? Not counting Persona 4 (since it's not out yet), I've got a soft spot for the original Mortal Kombat movie.

EDIT:
Okay, since a few people don't seem to be sure, this thread is about videogames being adapted into OTHER media, not the other way around. Basically:

Games based on movies: No

Movies based on games: Yes

Of course, it doesn't have to JUST be movies, cartoons, anime, books, anything goes.

I've always somewhat enjoyed Advent Children. Granted, one must look past the dreadful English voice overs (I'm looking at you Yuffie and Tifa), but all in all I find it to be a pretty entertaining little flick.

The first few seasons of Pokemon were good. The Prince of Persia movie was okay.

And let's not forget the greatest of all adaptations: Super Mario Bros.

I know I'm going to get flamed for this, but Advent Children. I don't care what people say, that movie's fucking awesome. I love that look on Cloud's face when
Sephiroth appears and goes "Good to see you...Cloud...*OWA*

Is this purely Video games -> other media, or does it work both ways? If the former, Pokemon, if the latter, Spider-man 2. Also *dual-wields flame shields* I enjoyed all 3 mass effect books *cowers beneath his two shields*

The Resident Evil novels are actually pretty neat and well written.
They fill in a little backstory, even though a little bit had to be ret-conned when Resident Evil 3 came out.

I rally enjoyed Final Fantasy: Spirits Within. Though was a bit freaked out to Steve Buscemi's voice coming from Jason Priestly's mouth. And James Wood's completely owned it as the villain.

Final Fantasy Advent Children, thought I've never played FF7 So I had no idea what the fuck was going on.

And Doom and Silent Hill. I enjoyed those.

lol sorry I just can't get behind that movie. The fight at the end is epic but that's the only good thing about it.

OT: Silent Hill was great, Resident Evil 1 and 4 were alright, and Super Mario Bros was so bad that it was kind of good. I mean, come on, Toad was a 7 foot lizard-man thing with a harmonica.

I want to see how they manage to hide their weapons in their school uniforms.

I know a lot of people didn't care for it, but I really liked the Silent Hill movie (save the lame end thingie).

Silent Hill is really special in video gaming because its the only title whose story alone has been retold multiple times,(The movie, Shattered Memories) sharing nothing between the versions but the powerful themes.

And I'll be damned if that's not a milestone for the genre.

You mean instances where video games were adapted into another medium?
From what I've seen so far, the Silent Hill movie takes that prize.

I always figured that after the first time they went into the TV with them, the party stored their gear in...

...Teddie. Think about it. He is an empty shell without too much use.

OT: I'm going to have to say I liked Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within for what it was worth. It would have been a much better movie to most people if it didn't HAVE Final Fantasy in the title, but the damage was done. It was a great movie, but without any connection to it's namesake anywhere(not even a Cid(Sid doesn't count), Biggs, or Wedge(I know these two were Star Wars, but FF referenced SW)), I can see why it didn't do better.

EDIT: I've also read one of the Halo books, but it just wasn't really as memorable as the video game movies that I've seen, so that wasn't mentioned.

(For some really fucking annoying reason i keep getting a message saying it can't process my post when i embed so i'll just link this thing instead! O.e)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCDOF11p33w (Kirby of the Stars for those wondering)

As a more serious choice though i'd say the Prince of Persia movie. Can't think of anything else at the moment.

EDIT: Typos too now... sweet.
