Best videogame soundtracks?

Alan Wake had a pretty good soundtrack to it with Poets of the Fall to David Bowie in it...Children of the Elder God is brilliantly placed

I always liked the majority of the songs on the Burnout soundtracks as well

As for original music...Halo's is pretty awesome as is the Sonic games - in my opinion anyways. Anytime I hear Green Hill Zone or Starlight Zone it takes me back til when I was about 4 playing Sonic 1

I always enjoy the main theme to an MGS game (similar enough to be recognisable but still different from the last).

Overall favourite would be FF7

I love the soundtracks from the elderscrolls series, for the GBA the Golden Sun: The Lost Age soundtrack is phenomenal.

5 of my favorites would have to be (in no particular order)

CoD Modern Warfare 2 - particularly the music during the honey badger mission briefing
Phendrana Drifts - Metroid Prime
FF XII - Boss battle theme (I think, whatever one Yiazmat has playing)
Shadow of the Colossus - Pretty much any of them, but #16 stands out the most for me
Starsiege:Tribes (no paticular track)

Heavy Rain certainly had an excellent original soundtrack that totally captured the feeling and emotion of the game and set the mood perfectly for everything.

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 had the best collection of music hands down. Just look it up.

Let's see my favorite soundtracks are probably:

Riven: Award for best ambient music. Seriously, every moment of those tracks sounded like an eerie surreal dream. It quenched myself in the immersion of the game, and it made it very atmospheric

Legend of Mana: The tracks that I like the most are, "Pain the Universe", "World of Mana", "Paint the Earth", and "Wanderer's Path." Such a lighthearted game, but its music made it all the more epic and worldly.

One of my favourite scores at the moment is Noel's character theme from BlazBlue.


There are other awesome character themes, like Litchi's or Ragna's, but Noel's is my favourite

I agree with you there, but i think that, and any Guilty Gear game are on the same level. Love the character inspired rock tracks.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Final Fantasy VIII had some great game music along with Shadow Hearts II: Covenant

For licensed Game Music I guess Gran Turismo series.

I really considered the MGS series as well, I'm like the biggest MGS fanboy ever but I had to change it because it just wasn't fair, no other game can compare to the awesomeness that is Metal Gear Solid. LOL

The best licensed soundtrack that comes to mind is Tony Hawks: American Wasteland, but that's really the only one I can think of.

Absolutely agree with FFX. Put just about all the soundtracks on my mp3 at one point. It capturs the mood of the game and just by itself, awesome tracks. In fact, got so enthusiastic about it that I downloaded the "To Zanarkand" theme song and can play it on the piano.

To Zanarkand is actually my favorite song from the Soundtrack, and probably my favorite video game song of all time.

Nothing can beat Blazblue and Guilty Gear. Daisuke Ishiwatari's just an incredible composer.

I usually don't like most modern rap but the death rap in the game really gets me pumped I even sought it out to put on my mp3 player

MadWorld's soundtrack is the only one from a video game I downloaded (mainly because I can't find Kingdom Hearts on iTunes).

Final Fantasy VII is always going to be my top for OST, but Metal Gear Solid 4 had some of the best game music I've ever heard.
