Why limit yourself just to metal?
There are plenty of other great vocalists.

And besides, half the time vocalists just get in the way. What's the point of vocals anyways?

Personally, I think Randy Blythe, of Lamb of God, is one of the greatest metal singers. He can do screaming, and real gutteral singing, but is still fully understandable. Thats why I think hes great.

What the hell is metal? It's changed so much that now bands that only have screamers as "singers" are considered metal because they're heavy. Now, I love screaming, but metal is heavy AND extremely technical, so just playing two chords over and over again in drop tuning does not make you metal. Personally, I think metal is now called "Post-hardcore" because if involves both the intricate guitar work of metal plus the heavy vocals/screaming of hardcore. The best modern band that does it is Bullet for my Valentine.
Dude, your opinion fails so hard... Bullet For My Valentine are neither heavy nor particularly technical, and Matt Tuck's scream vocals are weak as all hell. If you want heavy/technical metal, try Bloodbath, Ihsahn, Opeth, Hypocrisy or Dark Tranquillity. Methinks that's enough to get you started.

Lol, that's why it's called an opinion. Calm down.

I'm not going to list 10, but I do like-

Snake (Voivod)
Paul Masvidal (Cynic)
Brent Hinds (Mastodon)

It must be said that, to me, most metal singers are incredibly boring and derivative.

Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden)
Rob Halford (Judas Priest)
James Hetfield (Metallica)
Geoff Tate (Queensryche)
Ronnie James Dio (Dio, Rainbow, Black Sabbath)

I can't believe no one has mentioned either Matt Barlow from Iced Earth or Hansi Kürsch from Blind Guardian. Shame.
Evidently there aren't too many power-metal fans on the site. :(

Why limit this to metal vocalists? Because that's what the OP asked about, perhaps.

I do agree that there are plenty of great singers in other genres, as well as sharing a taste for instrumental music.

Too many non-metal band vocalists being mentioned...

MUST...CONTAIN... RAGE

Anyways, I definitely nominate Tomas Lindberg without question!
