Ever since I bought Dues Ex and Half-Life source on steam I've been getting interest to play a lot of old PC games. But the problem is there are some in mind that I can't seem to find and google search has led me stray.

For instance I'm interested in getting System Shock 2 to play it for the first time but of course that game isn't featured on Steam, plus I've heard there are some PS1&2 ported games which I'd also be interested in.

So either than Steam where else can I look which isn't a torrented rip-off version.

Oh and any suggestion would also do in titles I might not know about.

ebay. There really isn't any other option on many titles.

Some titles are sold by the publisher online. For example, Startopia, from the now defunct Mucky Foot is sold online by Eidos (i think its them) for a decent price.

Good Old Gamers, www.gog.com is pretty rad for older games. Good prices.

Also, there are some good game trading websites that you can use.

Ebay or some game stores have re-released PC games for cheap from companies that exist only to sell old games. Some games haven't been re-released like System Shock 2 because it's unclear who owns the rights to it.

GOG.com and Steam seem to be picking up steam (muahahahaha) on getting older titles in.

Depends on how retro you want to go.

If I had ANY way to buy old pc games I would do it, but as it stands, I'm not able to, so my "store" for ancient "quitware" as i like to call it, is Isohunt.
Yeah yeah... I know I'm a monster, but If I had any other way to get it legitimately, I would.
I only pirated System Shock 2 and Alone in the Dark 3.

Arx Fatalis is pretty cheap on Steam. Planescape: Torment had a reissue in Europe recently, might want to grab a copy of that in case, even though you seem to be more interested in first person games.

Only type of games I'm not into is fighting/sports games.

Most people consider Half-Life, System Shock 2, Dues Ex as must haves and that's why I've been interested in them.

Oh and I probably should look into the Thief series before the fourth installment comes out.

Is...that another name for abandonware [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abandonware]?

OP: It depends on how old you're going. For System Shock 2, your best bet is looking around eBay or something to get it second hand. It's recent enough to find working hard copies. I myself got one from eBay.

However, the older you go, the harder it gets to find a copy, let alone a working one. For instance, I haven't seen anyone selling Sword of the Samurai [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sword_of_the_Samurai_%28computer_game%29]. In these cases, you could see if places like Good Old Games sell them. And if they don't...well, there's always websites like Abandonia.

Yeah, there are lot of PC games that could be seen as "must haves" but for some reason, for some people, they only really consider first person adventure games.

Sacrifice is another PC game you should be able to get on download that is seen as a must have. Also, Evil Genius.

I'd go to gog.com, Steam and Play.com, though be warned that they might need to be tweaked before they can run on ze computer.
