Best weapons in Fallout 3?

One of the best on my list would be the Backwater Rifle. It may not be as strong as many of the other guns but I did like how it made 10mm bullets actually seem useful again. It was a useful alternative to Lincoln's Repeater.

A3-21's Plasma Rifle though is one of the best guns to get through the regular course of the doing the story. You can't deny that turning your enemies into a pile of goo is fun. If just for the fact it goo-ifies enemies it beats Lincoln's Repeater.

get the pitt and operation anchorage.. then max your sneak skill and wear the chinese stealth armour, and get an ifiltrator from the pitt. you can then run around in sneak mode emptying entire clips into deathclaws and super mutants who are standing a foot in front of you and they never notice you're there. made the game super easy past that point. you're pretty much unkillable unless you walk into someone.

I love to stay away from massive power armour and plasma weapons whenever I don't need it. I try to keep pretending that I'm some kind of desperate wanderer in the wasteland...

So hunting rifle is best for me :3

Operation Anchorage loot isn't interesting? The best power armor in the game? The Gauss rifle?

By the way the Gauss rifle is my favorite, the ability to have a chance to knock nearly any enemy on their ass is just super.

Mothership Zeta is also underrated. The alien weapons are a lot of fun to use.

The - Blackhawk, is it? - scoped Magnum seemed to be pretty ridiculous to me. There was nothing I couldn't devastate with VAT's shot from the head from a quarter-mile away.

The Metal Blaster from the Pitt. A rapid fire shotgun substitute that uses those otherwise mildly useless MFC cells and also reduces enemies to piles of ash? Sweet!

Second, Lincoln's Repeater for sneaky long distance work.

Depends on the situation, if its for one that likes to go for the right-up-in-their-face approach, got for the shishkabab or the samurai sword. Otherwise I use the alien disintagrator, sure the add-on wasn't that good but the weapon was so fun to use, as was the tesla cannon.

And yes, all bar the multi-mini nuke launcher and the Spacewarper are actual sensible. Spacewarper is absolutely phenomenal, especially when TGM is on.
