Most Disturbing Ending - Earthbound. Well the ending battle really. Seriously Giygas will always remain one of my favorite bosses of all time. Also anything Silent Hill.
Must agree with you on Earthbound. That was an ODD/AWESOME end to a uber crazy good game.

Worst ending: *sigh* Neverwinter Nights 2.
"Rocks fall. Everyone dies". A famous RP gag for real.
In Mask of the Betrayer you continue the story actually, so not everyone. Although that doesn't make the original NWN2's ending any less ridiculous. On the plus side Mask really is better in pretty much every way possible than the original campaign so the OC quickly becomes just a barely remembered memory.
While this is true, it doesn't change how painfully bad the "ending" of the original NWN2 campaign was, knowing it can't be supposed to be funny/ironic. I can't imagine how bad it has been for the people that played it when it first came out and could only console themselves with "come on, there has to be an expansion with this kind of ending"

Best: Spyro: Year of the Dragon
Mainly because of the nostalgia than anything else... But seeing Hunter and Biance - damn, still know the names - kissing each other at the end... That's just pure feel good right there. And then Elora comes to keep the lil' purple dragon company.

Worst: WET
Yes! I played this game, but in my defense, I only did so because I had to review it. Damn! A couple of cut-scenes and a QTE-style bullet-time sequence, then, CREDITS! Unbelievable...

Most disturbing... seriously!: Shin Megami Tensei: Lucifer's Call (True Demon Ending)
You eliminate the change of the world being ever reborn, you battle with Satan himself and when you win, he recruits you as his new General to lead the armies of Hell to the gates of Heaven to kill God and reign in evil for all eternity. The End. WHAT THE F... Seriously, that's just messed up.

I was disturbed enough with "Flonne's Tragedy ending" in Disgaea, where is implied that you kill a sweet angel girl.

Then there is Etna's ending. When the music stops and Etna's answer to Flonne's opposal you know that something BAD is going to happen.

And then there is Disgaea's 2 worst ending. Really man, what the fuck passed in the heads of the writers?! It was like Smash Bros. turning into F.E.A.R 2. Those sounds...

I loved Kingdom Hearts 2's ending. It was just such a happy moment.

Worst ending is probably Two Worlds. I enjoyed the game but when the game asked me if I wanted to sacrifice my sister and become a god or save her and not I chose to sacrifice her. Then I fought some mages and the game was over. No epic cinematic of me becoming a God. Didn't get to play as a God.
At first I thought I'd done something wrong so I loaded my last save and did it again. Turns out ti was just awful.

I suppose Condemned had a pretty disturbing ending. Can't remember any other disturbing ones.

Halo 2.

Sir! Finishing this Fight!

Me: "FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!"

CoD4

Hey! Drive around in a jeep, kill a bunch of guys who can't drive for shit, Desperately try to shoot at a hind only to have it blow you up in the worst scripted sequence EVER. Fend off some soldiers, get blown up AGAIN, Zakhaev kills everyone, wait for hind to blow up AGAIN. Shoot Zakhaev, DUN DA DUN DAAH! You're done!

That's the worst closure to any game... ever.
First, forget about my avatar.
Now, with that out of the way, I thought it was a fairly awesome ending. The bad guy was killed, you were the one who killed him, since CoD never had any boss fights, the fact that you got to shoot Zakhaev satisified me greatly.
What's not to like?
It ended WAY too abruptly. It's like it ran out of time and said "fuck this". I mean how about an ending that involves this.

Everyone escapes in the chopper, but it's blown up by Zakhaev. You crash land in a forest, and everyone (except Price.) is dead. You run, bleeding out, running away from soldiers until Zakhaev finds you. He chokes you, stabs you, pummels you, and is about to shoot you dead. Price distracts Zakhaev, but gets shot, you pick up his gun, and depending on how fast you are, you either kill him, or you get shot and die. Soap lies, bleeding out to near death, flashing back all the main parts of the game until Kamarov and the loyalists find him and Price, and the game ends.

THAT is a conclusion.
Well, you sorta got that in the second one.
I mean, sounds exactly like the second one.
EXACTLY.
Even then, the second one did a much better job of wrapping up. My opinion anyway. CoD4 just felt like you were watching an interactive cut scene. The only differences between my revised ending and MW2's, is that Price doesn't actually get in a fight with Zakhaev. He just diverts his attention until he gets shot (near fatally). That's when Soap reaches for Price's gun. And proceed to kill him.

MW2's ending was pretty much

Try to kill Shepherd while injured, Shepherd instead bangs your head on a car, stabs you, goes on about his motives (30 thousand soldiers lost in the blink of an eye), when Price knocks Shepherd over, you try to reach for his gun, only to get curbstomped. While Price and Shepherd are fighting, you pull a knife out of your body, and throw it at Shepherd's eye.

Basically, as he's walking near death, it'll be like when Roach was so near to the end before
Shepherd kills him
. So the screen basically fades to black as he limps on. And when Zakhaev finds and pummels him, he's at that point a corpse, so he can't even move or look around. It's basically trying to make the player go "I'm fucked." Price distracts him, but doesn't FIGHT Zakhaev. Just shot down. Zakhaev would probably go, "that was for my arm, and my son. Now *turns to Soap.* for You..."

And I can see the picture of the forest right now. The crew, Gaz, and a few remaining people in the game are all dead, their corpses littered 'bout the forest. Just the sort of horror, thriller-esque feeling of dread. It's not TRYING to rip off MW2's ending. Personally I thought MW2's ending was much better than MW1's because it brought the story to a much more interactive, and as a result, much more satisfying closure.

Hell, that sounds quite reasonable.
Also, congrats about being the first person I know who LIKED the ending to Modern Warfare 2 (or at least I think you did).

Best: Metal Gear Solid 3 - in a perfect world, everything would be so epic.
Worst: Borderlands. I was expecting a lot of crates with weapons and I didn't get anything, literally.
Most disturbing: FEAR 2 definitely.

Jeeeeeeeesus Christ. That is messed up!
Well, don't say I didn't warn you... But yeah, that is REALLY messed up!

Thankfully (and from what I can tell), the other endings are more tame.

For me, best is a tie between Bioshock 2's neutral ending and portal.
Worst... The Force Unleashed(Wii version). Worst fucking excuse for a game and ending.
Disturbing, Bioshock 2 evil

Best: SRT OG Saga: Endless Frontier.

Um... Would you please turn off the lights?

Never before has heroism paid off so quickly! :D

Worst: Too many to count.

Most Disturbing: Disgaea 2's worst ending (seconded).

If you didn't watch the video from the previous page, the Hero has just ended up killing his love interest, and has gone batshit insane. So he kills his younger siblings. The Japanese Language option takes it up a notch further: After it fades to black, there's the unmistakable sound of chewing...

Best: Pokémon Blue. To 8-year-old me, that was the first video game I ever beat, and no other game has given me the same feeling of triumph and excitement.

Worst: Fallout 3. I've made my opinion on this matter quite clear in other posts - the ending was so bad it travelled back in time and made the rest of the game suck. Until Broken Steel came out, which made it all better.

Most disturbing: Portal. GLaDOS is terrifying enough, and the idea that she
is still alive
freaks me out.

Not the most of the mostest, but some memorable ones:

Best: God of War II. Simply in terms of intensity and the anticipation it generated.

Worst: Valkyrie Profile, B Ending. Paraphrasing - "You've done well. Take a nap, now..."

Disturbing: Dead Space. Just after you catch a breath and put together the level name puzzle, the game decides to make you stain your work-suit breeches one more time...

Video game endings are always something that make me a little sad. But a little less sad if the developers really put their all into making a fantastic ending.

Shadow of the Colossus had an incredible ending. I think when all's counted it's like 15 minutes, involving several integrated playable sections. It was, intense, emotional and, if it's your first time around, may just hit you with a nice twist. Great stuff, Team ICO.

Other endings I enjoyed a lot included Final Fantasy IX, where it's just very happy in the end; Final Fantasy Tactics in which it's great to hear about what happened afterwards such as
Olan being hanged for the Durai papers.
It's a great story with an ending which suggests that despite Alazam's greatest efforts Ramza may never be recognized as the hero of the Lion War. I also really enjoyed the endings of both Mass Effect games and look forward to the next one.

I don't encounter a whole of really truly bad endings. I mean, there's some old beat-'em-up games that kick you in the balls at the end by saying: "Congratulations, you won! But you aren't a real man until you try HARD MODE!!" But I would actually say my 'worst ending on record' would go to Deus-Ex. Now, I don't think the game is overrated or anything. I do think it's story is, it being surpisingly shallow, and it's endings reflecting that. Each ending you get gives you about 30 seconds of brief dialogue followed by some enigmatic quote that only stressed that game is pretentious while remaining fairly shallow plot-wise, then the credits roll. I was pissed off. I thought I had skipped something. Dues-Ex may have had great gameplay and level design, but it needed some better writers...

I don't know that I've encountered any endings I would call 'disturbing'. I suppose if anything the whole ending of Diablo wherein
you end up with Diablo's soulstone in your head, triggering all the events of D2...
could count, but I wouldn't say it was terribly disturbing to me, even as a 10-year-old.
