There will be TES V. It is just a while in coming. This post is to kill the rumors that they are not making another TES game. They are. They are just being secretive about it!

Apparently some folks got a bit upset by reports based on Todd?s talk at QuakeCon last week. An article came out where Todd was quoted as saying we had no plans for a TES V. He did not say that. That was not a direct quote from him. That was someone?s interpretation of what he said. I know, I was there.

At his QuakeCon talk he was asked when TESV is coming out and Todd replied, ?Don?t look for a new Elder Scrolls game in the near future.? He also went on to say how much the franchise means to us and that it definitely will continue. He just wasn?t going to provide any timeframe on ?when.? This should not be news to anyone that has been paying attention. Both Todd and I have said repeatedly that, of course, we?re going to do another Elder Scrolls game. The last one was enormously popular. So was the one before that. You get the idea. So do we.

Todd and Bethesda Game Studios are hard at work on their next big game, and we?re not ready to discuss it. As always, we prefer to have something amazing to show when we talk about it. We aren?t going to confirm or deny or comment on speculation, nor are we going to give hints about anything. If you know us by now, you know we don?t really do that.

In regards to the MMO comment, he was asked if there was ?any chance of an Elder Scrolls MMO? and he replied ? in a joking fashion ? by saying ?I guess there?s a chance.? To be clear, Todd and his team do not make MMOs, for any franchise, at all. We have another division ? ZeniMax Online Studios ? which is lead by Matt Firor, and they are working on an MMO. They have not said anything about what game they are making. When ZeniMax Online is ready to show what they are up to, we?ll let everyone know. Until then we aren?t going to provide hints or speculate on what they?re doing either.

Hope that helps clear things up.

I know morrowind is supposed to be great but other than that, I believe the elder scrolls is a pretty poor series. I didn't like oblivion and nobody talks about the other games.

Good golly. Hopefully TES doesn't also fall down the MMO path of corruption.

Personally I hope that they revamp the combat animations. They need a more varied animation set for the weapons and moves as the character gets more powerful. I always felt that after a while combat got kind of boring in both Morrowind and Oblivion. I also want them to make the thieving skills more like the old school game Thief. Being a thief in Oblivion was ok, but it could be a lot better.

Morrowind was the highpoint of the series, but Oblivion was still a very good game.
As for Arena and Daggerfall, well, I have played Arena and I got Daggerfall when Bethesda released it for free. But I haven't played it yet. But it does hold the record for the largest gameworld ever created, about the size of great britian.

OT- YAY! Finally the rumors have been put to rest those rumors. I never believed them, but I know some people did.
I also hope it is NOT an MMO. Maybe a co-op multiplayer component, but not a full blown MMO.

I think that this clears that up. If there is an MMO there will also be a single player RPG as well.

I would actually love a co-op mode in the TES games. Not an MMO but a 4-6 person on-line co-op mode so people could play through the quests together. That would kick ass!

If TES ever became on MMO, it wouldn't be TES. Almost all my fun in Oblivion was with all the mods people made for the game which of course wouldn't be usable in a MMO.

I think TES has the lore and story to become an MMO, but would they be able to make it work?

One of the great things for me, in Oblivion (and to an extent, Morrowind, which I disliked), is choosing what skills you want, but this may become an issue in an MMO sense. Blunt + Block + Heavy Armor + Restoration = Very, Very Powerful, especially if max'd out. They would probably put some form of restriction up, but then it'd not be TES as we know it. It'd just be a generic MMO.

I hope TESV will be just a standard FPRPG though, and that they make it a bit more efficient and visually-attractive than Oblivion was.

Well like the quote I posted above says Bethesda does not do MMO's, nor will they ever do MMO's. They have another division called ZeniMax Online Studios that would do a TES MMO, if there ever will be one that is.

Another thing I want done to make TES a more enjoyable game to play is combat from the back of horses. I find it totally idiotic that they never considered the idea that fighting from the back of a horse is logical and superior to fighting from the ground. Getting off of one's horse every time a creature attacks , such as a troll or wolf, to kill it is so annoying.

No MMO! What i loved the most about Oblivion was that there wasn't anyone else around to bother me.

I wouldn't mind a multiplayer Elder Scrolls. Not too much, though. Maybe have a seperate 2-4 player co-op story mode. Or something similar to Saint's Row 2's co-op.

To be honest, I liked Oblivion more than Morrowind. MW may have been more expansive (and it was), but it was far too difficult to get started in. Mind you, I didn't like how Oblivion's enemies were always a challenge. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad to be able to go anywhere and deal with anything, but I like being over-powered for some quests.

Perhaps a combination of the two is in order. Enemies are scaled to your level, but to a certain degree, and the difference between your level and theirs determines the reward. For instance, if you're a level 1 taking on a level 16 boss, killing it should reward you far more than if you're a level 26.
