And honestly seeing as what PSS got turned into compared to what it was, I'd rather Sony not "improve" anything.

Yeah, they implemented a new system wide store when PS4 rolled out without any consideration if PS3 could actually run it. They should have indeed better kept it as is, but they probably didn't feel like maintaining separate servers or whatever. The old one worked perfectly, and what you got in return may look nicer but is a slow, stuttering mess strained by PS3's limited memory. PS3 is quickly becoming ancient history now though with practically no more games coming out for it so I wonder how long it will take till they pull the plug entirely.

Anyways I'm perfectly fine with PSN on PS4. It's clean, user-friendly, easy to navigate and not cluttered with useless garbage. Yeah, you have to pay a small fee but maintaining servers cost money and you can't expect Sony to pay for all that with PS4 sales which are already at an incredibly low price. Their profit mostly comes from those subscription services rather than hardware sales.

But for fuck sakes I hope they don't turn PSN into another social network. That shit like Failbook is so prominent in everyday life is bad enough, but keep that shit out of my gaming please. I'm a relic from the 80s though, but I think a lot of younger people feel the exact same way. :p

Ghosting certainly has its place but calling the service bad because it's missing it (as well as all the other complaints I touched on) seems strong. They would be nice to have but campaigning for this stuff seems weird to me. People are certainly free to do it of course but it looks like a bunch of nitpicks rather than true problems.

The streaming thing (when you say streaming, you mean playing the older games, right? Not just a LETS PLAY or whatever) is the only one I could really see myself kicking a fuss over but even then, I wouldn't care all that much. I don't have the PS4 so maybe it's a bigger deal then I'm giving it credit for...

Although I thought Sony gave eight games with the PS+ thingy? Again, I don't have PS+ so please excuse my ignorance on this.
Its a bunch of game spread across 3 platforms, Vita included and its usually about 2/system, sometimes more if there are cheap indy titles thrown in, but as far as I recall its usually been 2/month/console.

By streaming I don't mean twitch, I mean physically streaming the PS3 games on their PSNow service to your PS4 console so you can play them, without a PS3 in the mix. As it stands the PSNow service either lets you rent games or pay a monthly fee (on top of PS+) to stream PS3 games to your PS4 without owning a PS3. Currently there is no other way to play PS3 titles on PS4, and the selection is limited. I'm still kinda pissed at Sony for the way they handled the PS2 compatibility on PS3 and PS4 being able to stream PS3 games from a service is a slap in the face. At least XBOX never crippled their 360 from playing what XBOX Original games were compatible with it, Sony removed the PS2 compatibility from the PS3 right damn quick (lucky I own one of the rare systems that does so, and didn't pay an arm and fucking leg for it). People want to tout how Sony is so much greater than Microsoft, but MS seems to be more willing to change their practices to keep fans while Sony decides to arbitrarily shit on them and makes no mention of retreating from that stance. I don't care if PS+ gives us "newer" games, its a damn shitty practice to not be able to offer backwards compatibility on PS4, yet sell us a service that "rents" us PS3 games, and the other PS2 Compatibility mentioned earlier.
*shrug* I still like PlayStation but I don't fool myself that Sony is anywhere near better than Microsoft when it comes to customer service and daresay at least MS tries to do better whereas Sony give no fucks.

PSNow is more for people who never played the PS3 originals, as a lot of people who bought a PS4 never owned a PS3.

Having no backward compatibility on PS4 kinda sucks, but in Sony's defense its a lot harder for them than it is for MS. The cell processor is in no way comparable to the x86 architecture of the PS4, while MS never really experimented with this kind of exotic hardware so there is much more continuity going from XB360 to XBone. In fact one of the reasons Sony made the PS4 more conventional hardware was to make it easier for developers, who often struggled with cell and PS3's peculiar memory distribution.

PS3 could emulate PS2 games(which they later scrapped to reduce the price of the system) but for PS4 to emulate PS3 games it would basically need a cell processor which still runs twice as fast(at 3.2GHz) than the PS4 CPU which is a conventional x86 chip. This makes emulation nigh impossible unless you drive the price up quite a bit.

Though to be honest I only wish they made a remaster of Demon's Souls for PS4. That would be better news to me than backward compatibility :p

PSNow streams games, it could be written to read the disc for content and allow people who own games that are on PSNow to play those games. But they won't because its cheaper not to. PS3 removed the compatibility option from newer consoles, but started releasing PS2 content on the PSN, which is anti-consumer. They had no reason to remove the PS2 functionality, they have no reason to code PSNow to read discs for content. Both things could/can be done, but they didn't/won't. That is indefensible.

MS only changes their practices when they make such anti-consumer practices they sorta have to change them, Sony was somehow less arrogant than MS after PS2's dominance vs MS after 360's dominance (DRMed Xbone). MS are the ones that charged for free shit like Facebook. MS was literally the only console manufacturer that actually makes a browser yet both PS3 and Wii had browsers while 360 didn't; it's because MS wanted to control everything and thus charge for free stuff. You had to pay MS to use Netflix for crying out loud. MS gets off on charging for services they don't even provide yet MS is better than Sony, that makes no sense. That's not to say Sony is awesome or anything as charging for online (again, a service neither Sony nor MS provides) is complete bullshit. I actually blame the gaming community for online gaming being something that costs money as no one should've even paid MS for online gaming in the first place, the gaming community let that become status quo. I do like the fact that Sony actually makes games as they own more developers than both Nintendo and MS combined whereas Microsoft just buys exclusives (usually timed) instead of making them. Sony does listen to their community as PS4 launched without MP3 or video support and now you can play MP3s and videos on the PS4; it should've been there at the start but Sony did listen.

As mentioned by another user, PS4 just can't play PS3 games.

That would be retarded to read PS3 disc content to only stream it back. The cost of the streaming games is the bandwidth and not really the games themselves so it's just not possible to do game streaming without charging for it. And, you would then have to upload your PS3 game data (which is a lot of fucking data) to the server and most people don't have the upload speed to be able to do that anyways.

The only improvements I'd welcome or the ones on the Playstation Store. Better search functionality and whatnot (as well as not running like shit on the PS3). Searching for certain games or add-ons can still be a pain. The rest is just the most minor of window dressing, like the ability to wear a hat or put your Trophies in a frame or something. Even if I liked some of those functions, I'd use them maybe three times before ignoring them forever.

And honestly seeing as what PSS got turned into compared to what it was, I'd rather Sony not "improve" anything.
Downloading from your library is a bear on both PS3 and Vita. Especially if you have to search back a while.

I can't believe they screwed that so bad. I mean, they're not Microsoft. >.>

That list is hot garbage because numbers 1 through 10 aren't "Make the fucking thing stable" and "Make downloads take less than 10 hours".
Pretty much this.

Fuck avatars, fuck trophies, screw all the useless bullshit people think they need. I don't want facebook, twitter, and twitch integration, I have a PC for that shit (and I don't use it on PC either). I like PSN because of how simple and bare-bones it is compared to the bloated mess that is xbox live. What I don't like are the long download times and unstable multiplayer. I get 60 Mbps down Sony, let me USE IT.

Whaaaaaat? Did you figure out how to keep it from looking like a social media site which shows you every single thing your friends do all the time. If you did, please let me know. Seriously.

You can just make another user and not add anyone on there. And what I meant was more sneaky interconnectivity with actual social media sites like google and Failbook, like when you login to PSN you login to a dozen other services as well(like when you login to gmail). Atleast PSN never forces it down your throat and you can make it as social or private as you want.

I don't realy get it. I like PSN. It's so simple and easy. My XBL seems like a complete mess in comparison I like PSN. I get a ton of free games each month and I actually play and enjoy many of them. I don't need trophies, avatars or whatnot. I don't play games to get achievements, I play them because I enjoy the game.

Yeah, mine looks nothing like a social media site. I turn on my ps4, I go to the game I want. No social media crap to be seen anywhere :s unless I scroll down the "what's new?" and that's one tab on my ps4 that never gets used.

Every time I try opening the playstation store it freezes my system.
Sonys shitty internet on PS3 always had "dns error". When I tried purchasing a game with the right credit card info it wouldn't let me.
Get your shit straight sony.

How many places whether Xbox live, Steam, or websites like the Escapist let you change your username? Very few if any allow you to change your username. Automatic trophy syncing, why? It takes like 2 seconds on PS4 already.
Xbox Live and Steam let you so that is one big chunk already.

Fair enough, whenever I tried to change my username at places, it was never allowed. I haven't wanted to change it in awhile really anyway because I make the same username everywhere for like the last 10 years.
