My friends and I were WAYYYY into them, right down to making less than 'legal' modifications to them, including using nails for their 'spinning bit at the bottom.' (My brain is gone missing!)

Then, I saw a commercial for them the other day, with a new anime and everything, and I lulzed.

I just did what me and my friends always did with series-based combat toys. Build them together until we got some sort of genre skipping monstrosity that could win in a combination Trading Card Game, Nerf fight, Beyblade contest.

Oh God! I remember Beyblades they were fucking epic! oh the endless enjoyment those offered me and my mates trying to customise them to make them indestructible, the joy it brought you when your beyblade pwned your mates beyblade.

Driger ftw!

I'd completely forgotten what these things were called, I had a dueling arena thingy and a few, but I had a driger that I customised a bit, owned EVERYTHING.

Good times.

I had a Beyblade when I was like 8 I think, if I recall correctly it was an "Ultimate Frostic Dranzer". Melodramatic, but damn it won at least 8/10 games I played. Good times.

You young-uns and your beyblades. In MY day, we had metal spinning tops with pictures of Power Rangers on them. And we LOVED them.

Oh ya! I loved those. I remember my friends and I wanted to add real blades on but never got around to it. I even still have an arena for them.

Me and my friends had Beyblades back in Primary School. They weren't very popular, but they were pretty cool...up until the girl I liked called them 'Gayblades'. lol

Pokemon cards were insanely popular at my school though. To the point where the school smelled like cardboard. Literally.

I liked the show, especially the intro. Let's... Beyblade! Let's... Beyblade! Nowadays I read the manga (you can get it at the library).

heh. that was fun, i modified mine slightly so it was pretymuch a solid lump of heavyness.
that, combined with one of those longer pull ropes a friend of mine had was INSTA WIN XD
too bad the cheap plastic bin thing we had did nay likey so much XD, it was dented to hell as that same friend with the longer pully had one made all-offence style XD

once it got so out of hand mine shot across the room, and took a bite out of a leg of the coffeetable XD. jeah. the force behind it was grand and fun xD

Those were the days, as they say. I remember staying up 'til 3 in the morning with my brother battling it out in a "first to 30 victories" competition. It didn't end well, he broke a piece off my attacking ring and i gave up :(

Wasn't like a cartoon about super powered spinning tops?

=\

Then again Yu Gi Oh is a cartoon about children's card games.

If anyone ever wonders why animé doesnt have main stream acceptance stuff like this is their answer.
Yu-gi-oh is a serious children's card game that is life or death for adults. I once killed a gay clown over it in America.

Man, my cousin and I used to play with his Beyblades all the time when I came to visit. Those were some good times. Thanks for the quick trip down memory lane.
