Origin has actually pulled slightly ahead of Steam for me lately. Say what you will but at least Origin isn't full of absolute shite that can barely qualify as a "game".

I got it in a humble bundle a while back. Still keep getting kicked by Punkbuster for no reason whenever I try to join a game.

I was totally expecting that answer. Shitty launches and buggy games aren't comparable to crap like Air Control, Day One, The War Z and the other half-completed, broken shit that's been on Steam.

sure but at the same time origin doesnt have FTL, Mark of the Ninja, antichamber, Fallout 3, Just Cause 2, FLY'N, Silent Storm or the Age of Wonder series

i honestly dont mind terrible games because, well i dont play that shit, when you have a library as vast as steam's, you are bound to have some stinkers

i must admit, i cant stand some of the abusive devs on steam, on the other hand, Origin is owned by EA... so yeah, cant get much more abusive than that

The only thing I liked about origin better than steam was better use of bandwidth. When steam downloads something it takes a higher priority over everything and everyone else using the internet, but origin seemed to adjust itself according to other programs that needed bandwidth. For example, I'm downloading a game on steam? Everyone else in the house is moaning about how the internet isn't working. If I'm downloading a game on origin? No complaints. Other than this one fact I don't find origin superior to steam, but at this point I am just indifferent to using it.

Probably will download this battlefield 3 deal if I get out of the hospital soon enough.

i really fear im starting to sound like a huge steam fanboy (and i kind of am) but... steam has a fix for that, atleast a partial fix

you can adjust your download speed on steam so it doesnt take all the bandwidth

The only problem with that is that Steam's throttling, at least in my experience, is absolute arse. Seriously, every time I've ever downloaded a game off of Steam and limited the speed so as to allow me to continue doing things like watching Youtube videos, you know what happens? Every thirty seconds the speed drops to a complete halt and then works its way back up to the speed I set. Considering how much it slows the download down even further, at that point I might as well not even bother and just wait to download the thing overnight.

OT: Picked it up. I don't even care about multiplayer, but it's free so whatever. Maybe there will be a time a week before the servers get shut down when I feel like giving it a shot.

Hmm, I wonder if I'll see any unexpected comments in this thread. (The answer is no, no one has a damn thing new to say, but they'll keep on saying it anyways.)
How's this for unexpected: Battlefield 3 was a terrible game and I'm glad I already played it for free last year with my PS+ subscription so I didn't spend any actual money on it. The game should be free because it's not worth paying for.

I laugh at all these guys here who think Origin is a piece of shit, because they've probably never used it. All they know about Origin is the times people have problem with the support and because EA is teh suckz, lol, amirite, DAE?

Origin really isn't bad, at all. This is the third game they've given out for free in about three months: First it was Dead Space, then it was Plants vs. Zombies, and now it's Battlefield 3. All really big names, each costing about $20, and I think they are really fun games that you can put a good amount of time into. The software is fast, it doesn't take up any processing power, it looks and navigates just fine, the download speeds are usually fast (though giving everyone with a computer a 20+ GB game is going to throttle that this week), it isn't full of accessories that the average user doesn't use like the Marketplace, Workshop, or Big Picture mode.

It's plain and simple fine and it just works.

As for Battlefield 3? You can spend all day arguing with people who say it's one of the best BF games, that it's inferior to Bad Company 2 but still pretty good, or that it's a huge step back and one of the worst BF games to come out. I don't know, even when I have a lot of time in BF4 I still go back to BF3 because BF3 did a lot of things right that BF4 dropped the ball on. I say BF4 has overall better map design and weapon balance, but BF3 has far more 'snappy' gameplay (just look up "BF4 netcode" if you don't know) and BF3 already has most of its problems and exploits already ironed out. Of course, that also means DICE dropped most support for BF3 to focus on BF4, so if you hate it that a chopper pilot on is going 46-0 again and you're tired of being killed by the M16A3-Heavy Barrel-Kobra RDS-Foregrip literally 40% of the time and you think the Recon class is vastly underpowered compared to the other three classes, tough shit, DICE isn't going to patch or balance anything anymore.

Free is free though, I still put a decent amount of hours in BF3.

Aaaaaand checkmark. Knew this was coming.

The only response that would surprise me would be one of the "usual suspects" admitting that EA might not suck literally all of the time, but you and I know that will never happen.

Why? Selling a wide variety of goods doesn't make it okay for some of them to be shit. I've been shopping at Sainsbury's (a store that sells a wide variety of products) for ages, and I have yet to buy a loaf of bread that turned out to be rat poison.
wowow a bad game wont kill you, many stores sell lousy merchandise

look if Valve does what it must, and curates their store, the existence of bad games will be pretty much inconsequential, and they can keep their doors open to all kinds of devs

It requires Origin!?

No thanks! Suffering through Origin isn't worth it.
Hmm, someone beat me to it in a far more artistic fashion than I had planned. As with all of EA's games that require Origin, I'm out.

It's actually a shame, EA does make games that I want to play. They just don't have a streaming service I want to use.

I dont know why people always freak out over origin just because its origin. At least it isnt UPlay guys :p. The UI is good and it isnt full of bugs, sure there my be server issues but the main point of origin is to have a digital storefront for EA games. Also where as on steam i get around only 2MB download speed on steam, i get ~7.6 on origin (about my max bandwidth of 60mbps)
