I'm hoping here to put an end to the BF3 misconceptions. I'm also hoping that this thread will stay clear of trolls (although I don't hold out much hope)

Firstly, where I'm coming from. I've played all of the BF series apart from Vietnam, and was in the alpha test, so have had a chance to play around with everything.

1. BF3 doesn't have a server browser. This is untrue. It does have a server browser in the form of Battlelog. I could see and join any server I wanted, as well as an excellent quick-launch function. The join with friends function also works well. It is true that you can't change servers whilst in a game, but seriously, how many people need to change game whilst playing one at the same time?

2. You need to have origin. Whilst this is technically true for the install, after that you are able to go straight to the battlelog on your browser without launching origin. Mind you, I don't see the problem with origin, it seems to work quite well

Those are the biggies that I can think of, but I'll probably add more as they are raised

I don't have any problem with origin,I have a problem with its TOS and EULA and more importantly I don't trust EA.

But why? End the game THEN change!
because it takes more time exiting>launching broswer>waiting for broswer to fully load>going for site>picking servers>launching game>Connect to server>play.

I think there is confusion here, though I could be wrong.
The game requires the client closed before redoing the Server IP. This means ending the game you're in (like in any other game) and THEN closing the program itself. THEN you restart it to change servers. If I am wrong, then I get the idea that EA did a poor job of explaining it.

Are those 10 seconds really that important to you? :p
Not everyone has a PC capable of "10 seconds" it could also be 50 seconds, but its still a waste of time.

its not a problem. let me explain. i played the alpha and when u go into a game u simply load the map, not the interface like menus and so on? so it goes as fast as normal to load the game and map.

The different is that the browser isnt ingame but in the browser. AND its not bad. When i joined a game i didnt have to have the game up when map was loading, i could do other things.. look on webpages, check out skype and so on. That is really awesome in my opinion.

Give it a try guys, you may find it wired in the begining but u will like it and think its awesome. see yaa on the battlefield

Not to mention the browser is so much more stable and easy to change and crontrol then the ingame one.... so they can easily continuslly change the browser as much as they want to suit our needs

and as i said before if you still dont get it.. its basically like loading a map straight from your browser!! not laoding the game then the map, the only downside is that you hvae to go ingame to change settings and stuff around, but mayb they could bring that into the browser as well??

Give it up. And give me something else instead. Namely ONE FUCKING REASON, just ONE FUCKING GOOD REASON as to why the server browser isnt in game. One good reason is all I want. Until then, I will continue to walk the fine line between angry and dangerously insane every time I see some dude claiming it isnt that bad and it doesnt really matter.

Yes it does matter, for fucks sake. Pop into server. Server is shit. Go out of server. Alt+Tab out of game. Go into the next server. Rinse and repeat. When you measure that over, say, 200 hours, which is a small figure when you consider how long these games are usually played, and thats probably 4 hours of me tabbing in and out of the game. Fuck that.

Adding to it, we have the issue of either having your browser open and eating resources all the damn time, or opening it and waiting for it to start up while your PC is already shitting bricks everytime you switch. Not an issue for me, not anymore, but when I think back to my old PC and consider what would have happened if I had had to tab out of Battlefield 2 every time AND had to have Firefox running in the background... Uh-oh.

As for the second point, I literally dont give a shit about Origin. Do I need to have it running? Yes? No? I dont fucking care. What I do care about is creepy Uncle Origin breathing down my neck all the damn time, each second I spend on the internet being spent with him behind me, watching. Fuck. That. And most importantly,

Fuck EA and fuck Battlefield. Kiss my ass you cunts, you wont be getting a penny from me.

As Samvanzeeland has said, all you are loading is the map. It takes roughly 5 seconds to quit out, and then whilst the map is loading you can do other things. It is a very simple and easy solution. And smash, u mad? :p

Loading the map, is still loading the game. It takes time. Time dependant on your system. The browser not being in game makes your OS juggle resources between other programs. Unloading the game from RAM and loading it back takes time as well. Opens up the possibilities for memory leaks as well, especially if the system is being taxed.

Also about your point of it being stable and easy to change, it's not any different than an in-game browser. They kinda control how efficient it is...and what it can do. It's all up to them, both ways it's implemented. Not to mention internet browsers are inherently memory hogs because of caching.

No one saying it's good has really said why it's good. They just go like you. "It's good! damn it! BELIEVE ME! D:<"

...No.

I think that this wouldn't be a problem for High end PC's but for poor outdated ones like mine this is going to kill me.

Honestly it takes 30 secs to load CoD 4 and that's just launching the game, then there is the overly long load times of maps. If i have to repeat this every time i want to join a server, there will be a major disaster

EDIT

Also, most of the memory used by a game is the map and engine which aren't running when you are in the main menu. Also since when have in-game browsers been unstable. Not once has my computer crashed while choosing a server. Also i think that memory leaks are a valid concern if we are constantly restarting the game. I know that if i restart games a lot my PC starts to chugg unless i restart the entire thing

Do me a favour uninstall Origin and then see if the game still boots.

Yep, as expected, ignored all my points. Gave me one minor reason why I would want an out of game server browser, one thats practically naught though. If my PCs good enough to let me browse Skype while a map loads in the background, I could tab out after selecting a server. If its not, im fucked. Derp.

He gave plenty of reasons. Try again.

If there's no server browser there's probably no /connect, which probably means no /demo or /record and really, I only buy multiplayer FPS' if there's a decent competitive community.

The last FPS I bought was CoD4.

Oh just give it a rest, sure it might not be the world's biggest inconvenience, except for people who save 20 tabs on their browser as that will tax their system a LOT when changing servers. But it is not, and never will be, more convenient than an in-game server browser.

Now excuse me while I go get excited for RO2. =p
