Well the Obama legislation is trying to push forward new laws that will give the government right's to search your HDD on any device with one, for no reason and with no evidence for them to need to. What strikes me is that this may be being pushed by the media companies wanting to crack down on pirated movies and games, still is this a breach in privacy? Or should we all be safe in the knowledge that we've got nothing to hide?

Just hope to hell that this doesn't work it's way to the UK...

Seriously, the people they want to catch with this device would be able to easily work around it. Complete fail on the governments part.

No it's not a program, if you watch the article they are supposed to be targetting people travelling with laptops, mp3 players, anything with a HDD, this will give them rights to search it if they suspect you might have pirate material on there. (I'm going to have to do a bit more research though, find out the specifics).

The problem isn't searching the hard drive online. The problem is that being able to search your hard drive will be easier for the government as a natural part when you are in trouble with the law. So all that....you know what on the hard drive will be added on top of the orignial conviction. How would you like to go door to door in your neighbor hood letting everyone know you are a "sex offender" just because you got a speeding ticket and didn't report to court?

Also how about having to pay for pirated programs all over a assault charge?

It would strike terror in the hearts of every 4chan lurker.

I've got nothing really incriminating, but this sounds like a hell of a breach of privacy. If this is true, I vote that we're allowed to look on THEIR own personal hard drives. Then it would be fair.

....I have a lot of stuff on my computer that would probably put me in jail for a month or so. I have pictures that I have drawn on my trial of adobe flash of important people getting assassinated by me. I was going to post this on Newgrounds or something, but if this goes through I might have to delete them. I hope it doesn't cause those are some of my best drawings.
