No, but they're extremely close. It'seems already ended in ODA'so head, so no filler arcs. Unlike Barstow and Bleach.Samtemdo8 said:Have they found One Piece yet?
She does have quite the powerful ability, almost overpowered even.Nazulu said:Hope she has some interesting abilities.
So has this shonen done the 'super saiyan pirate 5000 level unreachable by normies' thing like the others?
No not powerful, interesting. Any idiot can write up powerful moves, but something unique is what got me into anime in the first place. I'm not a fan of DBZ for this reason. Something more like the Mangekyou Sharingan or many of Orichimaru's bullshit skills from Naruto. If you don't like Naruto I'll list others if you'd like.DeadProxy said:She does have quite the powerful ability, almost overpowered even.Nazulu said:Hope she has some interesting abilities.

And as for SSJ9000 levels of wtf, power scaling, yes, Luffy has an equivalent new form that has been shown in action in the anime. Gear 4 Luffy is stupid strong. Emphasis on stupid, as it looks quite ridiculous with a hint of bad ass.
Thing is though, Gear 4 takes a lot out of him. He had to use it twice against Donflamingo.Nazulu said:No not powerful, interesting. Not exactly thrilled to hear it does the ridiculous power scaling too as I always saw One Piece as the most grounded. I do know why they usually go this direction though, and looking up the Gear 4 form it looks Ok. I thought he'd become more tall and lanky, but whatever.
I think One Piece does technically do power scaling, but in a different way.Nazulu said:No not powerful, interesting. These special forms always use a lot energy don't they.RaikuFA said:Thing is though, Gear 4 takes a lot out of him. He had to use it twice against Donflamingo.
Honestly, it doesn't seem different. What I was hoping for is for them to outsmart these super strong enemy's, and I don't mean just once in an entire arc, like most of the way. DBZ has them throw around super moves for awhile, seeing both sides constantly get hammered, and then maybe once in a full moon we'd see them pull off a clever maneuver, and I hate waiting for that one moment.Nuuu said:I think One Piece does technically do power scaling, but in a different way.
The ENEMIES constantly scale up in power, but the main characters (generally) stay the same.
Once the team reaches the new world, this starts becoming more apparent. Luffy's battles start becoming more difficult and less possible to win through strength.
Then they get to Saboady Archipelago where the show really demonstrates how ridiculously powerful the top of the list is; Luffy encounters several enemies that he is completely incapable of defeating in any way until the time-skip/training arc.
It's still questionable whether he can beat some of those enemies post time-skip.
Luffy really hasn't gotten any stronger since the end of the time-skip, Doflamingo is the only one that required him to go all out. Everyone else has been a push-over.
I suspect that things will even out once they really start fighting the emperors.
I'm not going to deny that it's still shonen, but after a certain point, it's been a lot better on the whole power-scaling thing.
Plus unlike DBZ, it doesn't come out of nowhere. We've known the emperors were ridiculously strong for like 400 episodes, and its established that the strongest people are farther through the grand line.
The shows pacing also avoids the feel that enemies are step-laddering in strength.
I don't want to spoil it but Donflamingo is a irredeemable bastard. And that's putting it lightly.Nazulu said:These special forms always use a lot energy don't they.RaikuFA said:Thing is though, Gear 4 takes a lot out of him. He had to use it twice against Donflamingo.
I went to look it up in action and what I found was the most DBZ punch ever. lol
Donflamingo doesn't look the least bit intimidating either, what a shame. I'll give him a pass if does something really evil in the show ^^

I don't want to start watching One Piece again (a really really long show) to find that I'm just waiting for that one clever bit of writing again. I stopped watching most of these never ending shonen because they all eventually do this.
Hope I don't sound like an ass but it is a real concern.
I still like that video though, it does make want to give it another chance, but I'd rather just skip to the examples of the villains being monsters, then straight to them getting their ass kicked and save heaps of time. What do you think?
The "outsmartyness" of one piece has been showing up more so in their set up of the conflicts. How they got to the point of King Kong Luffy and Puppeteer Doflimingo fighting across the skies is pretty great, if an extremely long process. It got nothing on Jojo's Bizarre Adventure though, if you've never watched that series, I strongly recommend it, at least stardust crusaders and beyond.Nazulu said:Honestly, it doesn't seem different.
