Yup...it happens to me from time to time.
I have a Mid-term tomorrow and I should get some sleep...but it just isn't happening.
Any suggestions to help me get some needed sleep?...before I have to wake up an take the test.

If you can't sleep just take the opportunity to cram some more. It's only one sleepless night after all.
That was actually what I was thinking...but I usually do much better when well rested.

You only really learn something when sleeping, so without sleep its just not happening.

Try to relax, fire off some nature-sounds mp3s in an endless loop and start thinking about what you'd do on your next holiday journey.

Short of sleeping pills and alcohol I can't think of anything that could make someone go to sleep, but that's obviously a terrible idea seeing as you have an exam in the morning. All you can really do is lie in the dark and try to relax.

Turn off the computer and make it as dark as possible as melatonin reacts to even small sources of light. White noise helps, and if nothing else, a nip of whiskey could help (just a shot or two, nothing you'll feel in the morning); this should be a final option though as alcohol suppresses REM sleep - so you'll fall asleep faster, but not be as rested.

Not music, sounds of nature. A Beach & waves & birds in the background is my fav.

If it has to be music, i'd choose Samantha James.

I have this same problem. I haven't found a solution to it, even going sleepless the night before hasn't helped, so I adapt my sleep pattern and just pull an all-nighter whenever there's a test coming up.

Read a book (that has nothing to do with your exam). Always does the trick for me; reading a book lets my active brain catch up on the fact that my body needs rest.

Well, stop thinking and worrying about the big test tomorrow, for one. It sounds like you are stressed out for the test, and that is what is stopping you from sleeping. Just chill out and push the test from your mind. Go do something relaxing. You should find yourself heading to sleep in no-time. At least, that is what works for me...

Try Morgenstimmung by Grieg, you will sleeeeeeeep.

Or not.
A combo/variation of these two might do the trick...
