Title sums it up nicely, what do you think were the biggest gaming surprises of 2010, surprisingly good games, surprisingly bad ones, surprising news.

I can only think of two:
Sonic Colors being actually very good, a 3D sonic game that's actually decent, actually good? Holy Crap!

The other one, Duke Nukem Forever, never thought it'd see a release honestly.

probably Singularity for me. I bought it used and havent beaten it yet, but it strikes me as one of the coolest Shooters to come out this year. I'm barely 4 or 5 levels in and I've already had more awesome moments than all of the COD games combined.

I've never played a game where you can age one guy to dust, force push a canister of liquid nitrogen into a guy and freeze him solid, and then steer a bullet around a corner to kill the third guy, all in about 5 seconds of insane gameplay. Honestly I dont know why I havent played it sooner.

Hopefully I can get Metro 2033 soon too, as I've heard it was quite awesome as well...

I've never been good at, or liked RTS games very much, so I was really surprised at how much I loved SC2.

Biggest surprises for me were how good Enslaved: Odessy to the west, Spiderman: Shattered Dimensions and Just Cause 2 turned out

Assassin's Creed II (I'm counting this because I played it on PC which was released in March '10). I did not enjoy Assassin's Creed for one second but Assassin's Creed II blew my pants off...

For real!

Biggest Suprise:

Peoples negetive reaction to Civ 5. I thought it was awesome - Still play it now too.

Big suprise to find that TF2 started charging people for items too. But then; nobody really seems to mind and it doesnt force you to.

Also shocked to see that both Black ops and MOH were pisspoor excuses for FPS games.

However, nobody was suprised by the portal 2 delay. Valve time stikes again!

how awesome vanquish is. i remember seeing the trailers when it was first anounced and being like "hurray another third person cover based shooter about space marines just what the world needed."

yet it is and awesome dance of destruction slow motion and explosions that flows together so nicely. i mean i get to a chest high wall and all i want to do is jump over it and i always get a little sad when m feet touch the ground again but before i know it i am already flying of to explode more stuff.

Other then games I thought were going to be crappy being good and games I hoped would be awesome sucking, I wouldn't say there were many grand surprises this year. There wasn't really anything earth shaking that knocked me on my ass (although I am curious about Titan (new blizzard mmo))

I guess the only other surprise is how long we are going to have to wait to get the SC2 expansions, I was figuring every 3-6 months. Although I guess Duke Nukem would be a surprise if I actually still cared about it. I mean a new FPS is not much of a surprise and I can't imagine it will be worth the wait. Think Indiana Jones and the Crystal Alien thingy...

Sorry if that spoiled Indiana Jones for you, I know it sure spoiled the series for me.

My real bonus of 2010 would have to be Assassin's Creed Brotherhood multiplayer...it's something that is very rare in the gaming world...Refreshing.

Was suprised that Black Ops was actualy really damn balanced.

Was suprised that Medal of Honour did THAT poorly.

Was suprised Metro 2033 had so much detail.

Darksiders was actually fairly fun, and Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep came in as an unspoken underdog. Enslaved and DKCR I'm still waiting to get my hands on, but look promising.

OH, and Scott Pilgrim The Game was a total blast.

Seconded. It is surprisingly fun to play, and I'm not even that into multiplayer.

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West

I heard enough about it before playing that I expected the good story and acting it had. But the reception to it's combat was lukewarm. I had a great time with the gameplay, and thought the combat was pretty challenging.
