fallout 3. the shooter aspect of it was horrible. vats helped, but still didn't do much to hide the fact that bethesda doesn't make a very good FPS. i gave it around 30 hours to change my mind before i went back to oblivion.

The Wii console, if it's not a zelda or mothership mario game, it just seemed like garbage. Wii has like 6 good titles and the other 100+ games about petting a pony, or dressing up my bratz doll are just garbage...why nintendo? why!?

Stalkers... though to be fair, it is cause I am running through the latest expansion and it is heaviest on mind. The list of games I could chose from... staggering. Goddess, I'm a old fart of a gamer!

Still being a fan of roadside picnic and of the whole idea of stalkers I was looking forward to the release of this game. A FPS with a inv system, with great open areas to explore, anomalies to avoid and riches to be made I jumped head on into the hype... something I rarely do and something that I got burnt for.

What was originally released was a shadow of itself and one of the first games to have what I describe as "Marketing arseholes" to ruin it. Not only was this game lacking in any innovation but thanks to 'time restraints' it was only half a game! Other games would fall into the same trap, such as fallout 3 of which I refused to listen to the hype on that one, but it failed cause I was a old school fallout player, of releasing only half a game.

Take the extra maps of the two expansions, the features found inside such as emissions and modifiable weapons, and you are comming close to what they might of dreamed of. There still are huge areas missing, you can see on the paper map that came with the game and even on the PDA map within the game whole map sections that are detailed (at least on the map) but you just 'fast travel' right past! Still if you added the extra maps you are getting close to what might of been possible and I wouldn't mind seeing them re-release stalkers with the extended maps opening up more of the world.

But yeah...

The game promised a gritty world where you would be laying face down in a ditch while the military patrolled a few feet away. Of stealthily moving in and out to bring back artefacts and wonders the world has never seen before. Of unsubstantiated and ridiculous rumours the likes of which are life blood for a true stalker.

Only... to be given just another run of the mill FPS that couldn't even get the artefacts abilities to line up with their damn descriptions!

Tough call. Potentially either Fallout 3, Borderlands, or Prototype. I'm not sure which though, so I'm just going to blanket toss all three out.

Borderlands, What the hell kind of ending was that? A good game all the way up to the end, then it falls forward busting jaw first on the pavement with a broken grill and screwed up jaw.

I'll second Spore, Far Cry 2 and CoD6/ModWar2/whatever.

Spore because I was following that for a year before it was released, and seeing the first reveal of all the layers (microscopic to interstellar) blew my friggen mind. And then getting the game and it was this childish p.o.s. where I had already gotten up to the space level within half an hour. WTF? So much promise...

And Far Cry 2 for the creating a beautifully open game world that I absolutely love, then stopping me from free roaming after I have completed the story. The bad ending, the forced missions near the end, the lack of AI (it was like playing Doom, stand and deliver), the Americanisation of Africa (Jeep wranglers? wtf? Can you say Hilux?), the insane amount of travelling to and fro and running into respawned enemies ruined it. That and a complete lack of SDK, so the fans couldn't even fix it.

CoD6/ModWar2 for completely bollocksing up the best multiplayer ever. Where, the fuck, are the dedicated servers? Thankyou IW for destroying the entire gaming clan concept. Nice maps, nice guns, nice perks, nice everything else. But no dedicated servers? You lazy motherfuckers. I live in Australia. Connecting to the USA means going through Singapore then Asia then the Middle East then Europe then across the freaking Atlantic. Why would I want to do that just to frag some fuckers? Oz has some great clans, an just because you did a half-assed port to PC they are happy to sit around for the next shooter. Did these companies not notice how huge Counter Strike was? If you make an FPS for PC you have to give it dedicated server abilites and SDK, that way your game will live on for YEARS. People are too consumed with making a quick buck out of 13 year-old Christmas presents and casual gamers, the Age of Hardcore Gaming has come to an end.

This is kind of an odd, personal one, but: Jak and Daxter: The precursor legacy.

Bought it when I was a kid and I was so psyched for it. I thought it would be like classic Banjo Kazooie, (my favourite game at the time) and the reviews hyped it up a lot. Then I get it, and it turns out that you get over half the Precursor world-opening plot-tokens by just paying for them. Which made the game like Banjo Kazooie, if they cut out 3/4s of the jiggies and just had you pay notes for them instead. Ugh. Not enough adventure. Gutted.

It was a big disapointment for me at the time, finishing it so quickly. I saved up my pocket money for ages.

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising because i expected more urban combat or atleast being able to see my enemies without a sniper scope. Plus the AI was absolute shit so that just added to the frustration.

Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer, I enjoyed the campaign and spec ops but for gods sake how can you make the knife the most unbalanced weapon in the game?

Bioshock. Who would guess that a game with such great reviews would be a piece shit. It wasn't the worst game I ever played, but it's in the top ten. And I always hear people complain that Halo is overrated.
