Brütal Legend.

Not many people like the game, but I loved it to death, especially the scenery and the music. However the ending was so horrible, it was like they ran out of budget half-way through

Assassins Creed 2.
You find out from an ancient dead alien's hologram thing that there's this threat that's going to destroy the world if you don't stop it. And apparantly the Templars are NOT this threat. So what is it? Who knows, the alien doesn't want to tell the future hero for some reason. And she had to know, I mean, she knew exactly where you'd be and what you'd be doing 100's of years after her death at this exact date. So yeah, it was really, really, crappy.

I'd probably have to go with Dragon Age 2. I mean come on, the woman practically had a light-saber! ¬¬

Haha, when I saw the topic I knew it was about Fallout 3. I've seen al ot of people who didn't like that ending. I didn't really mind the ending. Wasn't really a fantastic one, but you gave your (or that girls) life to save the future of the wasteland. Good enough for me.
What makes it so horrible is that there is no reason why you need to kill yourself.

Charon, RL-3 or Fawkes can easily go in there and turn on the purifier.
Yeah, there are holes in the plot, but that doesn't bother me as much as a really bad ending.

Just my opinion though, I know there are people who can't stand stupid decisions and plot holes.

Borderlands. I mean I spent the whole game getting to the end and it was really anticlimatic... reloaded an earlier save so I could actually check I hadn't accidentally skipped a big ending or something.

I'd lent Red Dead Redemption to a friend, whilst busying myself on Borderlands (weak ending, but who the hell was paying attention to the Main storyline there?) I was on Party Chat to him, just as he was playing the Homestead missions.

Sure enough-
"Okay, there's like... 20 guys out there, how am I supposed to- ah bollocks I died.

...

Hang on.

Why am I not...

Am I...

WHY IS IT NOT RESTARTING."

He continued this rant for a good ten minutes, proclaimed the game shit, and sulked. He was enjoying it up to that point!

I just finished Fallout 3 (I know, I'm a bit after, but humor me), and just had the biggest letdown ever in a game.
That ending was without doubt the worst one ever of all the games I have played. I got no satisfaction out of playing it to the end and just felt that all of my work had been for nothing if my carater is dead.

And, yes, I know that if I buy Broken Steel, I get to play more, but that is beside the point.

So, what is your worst letdown in a games ending?
Do you seriously not recognize how great an ending martyrdom is?

Are you guys fricking kidding me? Fallout 3's ending was awesome! Without broken steel some of it doesn't make sense, yes I'm talking about you Fawkes. You're fricking immune!

With broken steel however, they kinda fixed it. I think they should have removed the rad-resistant companions from the battle for some reason, beforehand. Then it would ahve made a lot more sense. Still, this is a heroic ending. You're not kicking some fat spiders ass, you are activating a water purifier. Awesome.

So yea, maybe it doesn't make sense but it's good anyway. Besides, I haven't finished broken steel yet so I still have stuff to see.

Back on topic:
Fable 3 or Oblivion, seriously. WTF.

Fasble 3: I JUST SPENT 79 BUCKS ON A LIMITED EDITION BOX OF A GAME THAT IS SHIT. THE BOX IS BETTER THEN THE ACTUAL GAME. OH YEA, AND MY PRE ORDER CODE DOESN'T WORK, AWESOME! I was mostly dissapointed about the whole of the story, I thought I was gonna get to rally the different towns to my cause. But nope, I get to rally two towns. Thats it.

Oblivion: If you look at this game for what it actually is, it's awesome. Sure, there are a lot of faults with this game, and a lot of stuff to get annoyed at. But it is still addicting as all hell. The ending however, fuck you martin. FUCK YOU!

Yep. "Oh crap, we're out of time; what do you mean the finale's only half finished? Just dump it and add in a sparing fight with your trainer, nobody will mind."

Yes, I do. BUT, is that but big, I want to know what happens afterwards!
And not through Three Dog's rant about me NOT being a hero because i didn't want my carater to die! I want to go uot there to tell the people of Megaton and Underworld of the bigg sacrifice that Lyon did and why I didn't. I want my charater to continue the work of rescuing slaves, killing feral Ghouls and other stuff. NOT DIE IN THE AFTERMATH OF THE THING THAT I WAS TRYING TO AVOID!

Guitar Hero: Metallica. Hmm, we've had most of the complex stuff, what are they gonna end on? A Call of Ktulu battle with the orchestra or Chtulu itself? Nah, a random ice cave and The Thing That Should Not Be. :/

Sorry mates but this topic kind of pisses me off.

Most games listed here the most (Fallout 3, Assassin's Creed games and borderlands) seems to have gone right over most peoples head in here.
It might just be me thats a massive nerd reading up on most of my best games outside of the game itself, be that comic book or the wikis but these 3 cases makes perfect sense to me and all had awesome endings forshadowing both whats to come and ending the game.

Fallout 3 really gets on my tits because that proberly the best one yet, and I see it trashed because of people who either didn't understand or didn't care enough about it to actually understand the working of both the mutants, Radiation or even the end game credits. first of all is the obvious martydom in ending either your life or your friends for the greater good of mankind (or worse). but fact is that thats how the series has always been about, self sacrifice, honor and doing horrible things for the greater good. Fallout 1 ending was that you walked off into the wasteland, cast out by the people you saved, fallout 2, ending with you, sacrificing yourself and your friends to almost lunacy to help the entire wasteland, but no matter how noble you did it, someone will suffer. Fallout tactics and BoS had the same line of tought, self sacrifice has been the stable of the series.

Assassin's creed had very good endings, and most people seem to not understand (Saw one person refer to the hologram as alien, and thats as wrong as it even can be) the symbolism and the reality and world they live and operate in.

Borderlands is by far the worst of the best, but it still makes sense, you are never told whats in there, and you work hard only to be taken by the *****, if thats not a great symbolistic view of how many other games do it or in fact how the real world works, i don't know what is, pursuing something so hyped up by everyone that you forget that it is infact rumors not facts, and in the end, you find that because of your own naive mind you are fooled to think that it might be true.

Honestly i dont see why everyone bitches about Fallout 3's ending, i thought it was well done and made sense, a pretty good story altogether in my opinion.

As for me i have two

STALKER Shadow of chernobyl: (Canon ending btw) What the fuck? He lays down in a field of grass its all over, what the fuck does that mean?

Dragon age two: What the fuck, shit was about to get REALLY awesome with leliana showing up and having the reveal happen but no, have us wait till dragon age three....assholes

Most recently? Dragon Age 2. That's up there in the top 10 worst endings for me.

You have mail! "Hey Hawke, I'm having an argument with the Knight Commander again, so midway through the conversation I wrote this and posted to you. Get over here. KTHXBYEXXX - O."
Well, this doesn't seem very climactic, they'd never start the end of the game with a letter...
"Ragggge! Mages are all blood mages!"
"Raagggge! Templars are dicks!"
Hey guys, how about a middle ground? This Circle thing seems to be working pretty well so fa-
*KA-BOOOOOOOOOOOOM
"LoLz Hey guyz, I say nO midle ground! Magez fo life yall!"
WHAT! I never did Ander's quest, I told him to go fuck himself! *RAGE*
"Now, choose! Templars or Mages!"
Errrr where are the different options?...wait, theres only two endings? FUUUUUU-
*sides with Templars*
*fights through to Gallows*
Okay time to-*Game crashes* FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-
Okay, blah blah, BOOM, errr, lets try Mages this time...
*fights through to Gallows, killing the same enemies as with the Templars*
Okay, Orsino, lets join forces and-
"WE CANT WIN!"
Sure we can, we're doing fine.
"I MUST USE....BLOOD MAGIC!"
*facepalm*
*kills Orsino*

Okay, Meridith, time to die!
"Ah ha! I have, the Lyrium idol!"
Wait. How did you turn that hand sized statue into a Buster Sword?
"AND ITS A LIGHTSABER! IS THIS AWESOME ENOUGH YET! You kids these days like Lightsabers right!? And Anime!? Okay FINE, I CAN FLASHSTEP AS WELL NOW! THIS IS SOOO AWESOME! Right? RIGHT!?"

Suddenly, I realized something. The bad guy of Dragon Age 2 was not Meridith.
It was not Orsino.
It wasn't even Goddamned Anders.
It was the EA marketing team and the lead developers who didn't have the balls to trust in the franchise they had created, resorting to cheapening it for more "awesome".
I stopped playing there and then.

Does anyone else remember throwing their controller at the tv during the end cutscene of Halo 2?

"Sir, finishing this fight" (Cut to black. Roll credits)
