What do you think was the biggest mistake on a console?

I'd have to say White and Black on the Xbox. They stuck out like a sore thumb and most of the time I forgot they were there. They were just in the way. And the huge size of the controller in the first place. On the plus side, if you friend pissed you off you could hurl it at there head really hard and kill them.

The tiny PC elitist inside me wants to say "existing". I think the N64 controllers and the weird middle handle that was jutting strangely to make 3 handles for people with 2 hands.

RTS's (Again with the damned pluralization of genres). They need a mouse and keyboard to be played properly. If they don't, they're not worth playing in my opinion.

Endwar or whatever it was called almost had something, but the need to speak in a decently loud voice ruined it for me. Can't really play that late at night when others are trying to sleep.

I find this really funny, because I learned to play on the N64 and for years it was all I played. . . it took me soooo long to adjust to the "normal" 2 handle controllers. I still miss that 3rd handle . . . :(

As a PC Gamer Elitist myself (not really, I play all types of consoles, PC is just included) I'll say Not Having an Online Mode For EVERYTHING.

And not releasing every game for every system all the time.

......lol?.....

But all jokes aside, I think one of the mistakes with the PS3 (Stay away from the reply button a little longer) was it having Blue-Ray. Because the added price on the Blu-Ray player shot the price up of the PS3 as well. Scaring many potential buyers away. Maybe if the PS3 had a bigger install base then maybe it could be in the place of the X box 360 is in right now....hell maybe even the Wii but let's not get ahead of are self's.

But that's allot of maybes and also don't get me wrong I use my Blu-Ray player quite a bit.

I'm gonna be tiresome and agree with MedicHeavy, in my feeling that the PS3 could have been so much more successful if they hadn't hung the millstone of Blu Ray upon it.

Even for a kid who's offered a console for Xmas, unless they're a raving Sony fan, they're gonna get offered 'Do you want the Wii and a few games, or the 360 and a few games, or the PS3 and, oh we can't afford to buy anything else, if you go for the PS3.'

Completely agree.

If they could do something similar to what they do with TV's: "HD Ready" then it would be much better.

i dunno, nintendo's success with n64 to their flop with gamecube by not realising the importance of 3rd party developers

nintendo's focus on the casual market on the wii and again not realising the importance of 3rd parties

sony's media system called playstation 3

microsoft's huge xbox controllers and then the rrod on the 360

take your pick i guess

The 25 Dumbest Moments in Gaming History [)http://archive.gamespy.com/articles/june03/dumbestmoments/] comes to mind.
If you have not read that article - please do.

I have a few selected list of mistakes

Not enough significant difference between the generations

Let's face it. The first Xbox360 games were not significantly better or better looking than the Xbox 1 games. (Don't believe me? Look at Conker for Xbox1 and compare it to the early Xbox360 games) It really bothers me that during the early release of the consoles the unit itself is extremely expensive, the game library poor and the few games that are out for said console are no better than the predecessor. If you it takes way too long time to develop games that significantly uses the hardware for what is intended for. The PS3 suffered from this far too much.

I die a little whenever someone critiscises the N64 controller. You weren't there, man! You don't know what it's like!

Good sir, I WAS there. I went on the noble quest of trying to find the damn Z button just like everyone else.

I was so proud when I recently got my N64 back out and worked out an effective and simple way of holding the controller.
