When im in a lecture hall with 500 other people, I don't see why some idiot needs to argue with the lecturer about how "The people of Ur ran out of food due to over-farming, not due to sealine water".
Go. Die. Stop ruining my lecture.

The other problem is one stemming from High School, and that's this subliminal message that seems to happen everywhere in my country. People seem to think that if you dont go to University straight after High-school, then you're a total failure and wont get anywhere in life.
Tradesmen don't go to Uni. Nor Architects, or software designers. All of which are high paying careers that seem to be overlooked despite our country having high demand for the first two, and hoping to create jobs for the third.

I'm personally annoyed with my college for taking away printers and most paper from class rooms(couldn't even get a syllabus at the start) and cutting a large portion of staff since the last principal ran a 25 million deficit. So instead we get new mouse pads for our computers. (Who the fuck is on this economics board and why haven't they been tortured for their stupidity).

The second group are the one who do not pay attention in class and sit and use the laptop all day and use facebook or games and stuff. How do you pay for a class and not do anything? It's a waste of money.

Finally the fools who screw up doing their homework at home or don't do it and ask if they can be special and get a full make-up. I hate this so much especially at the start of the year when the teacher clearly states there will be no make-up.

Where do I start?

- Being told what side of an argument to write from
- Professors who disregard what students say(I have been told flat out "Your opinion is irrelevant")
- Required courses that are completely irrelevant to your chosen field
- Classes that are too large and thus are inadequately taught
- Being assessed fees for services I do not want or need, then having to go out of my way to opt out of them
- Not giving enough time for tuition payments/withdrawal from classes

People who think that university will teach you a 'job'.

'Historian' is not my job, it refers to a skillset which you won't learn from reading Wikipedia.

Also, international exchange students. We get the annoying Valley Girl types, the horrible Chinese and the unintelligible Spaniards over here. And none of them know how riding a bicycle works.

God damn foreigners and their crazy ways.

5. Tiny. Fucking. Desks. Also, tiny fucking aisles between the rows of desks that make it IMPOSSIBLE to get to a seat without stepping on about 20 feet.

4. Professors trying to explain things I wouldn't even understand in ENGLISH, much less with a thick Indian accent and half the necessary words missing. NOTE: I'm not racist, I just want to be taught things in my language. There is a difference.

3. Pretentious Hipster bastards. I think we've all heard enough about them, so I'll just leave it at that. You've probably already heard what I have to say, or come to these conclusions on on your own.

2. Money. When my friends and I decided to move off-campus prior to the end of the semester, they charged us the full price for the current semester (totally fair) plus 40% of the NEXT semester. This is because, apparently, they won't be able to find a single person who wants to move into the dorm we're leaving, so they need to charge us extra to make up for the loss. This (sort of) brings us to...

Dorms. Dorms just suck. They are fucking awful. Rather then go on another rant, I'll just list a bit of a highlight reel.

-Bastard neighbors playing music so loud it makes my damn desk vibrate. Sometimes from two different neighbors at once. And RAs are useless. They just turn the music down while the RA is there, and turn it back up when they leave. Eventually, the RA thought I was just complain-y. I'm telling you, my desk VIBRATED.

-People shitting in showers, washing themselves in toilets...Etc. Take any function of a bathroom appliance, switch it with another one, and it probably happened in my dorm at some point.

-Roommate that never talks or anything, he's just THERE. Gets really annoying, have no privacy whatsoever. And I don't mean "privacy" in the way you're thinking, either. Let's be honest, that's what the disgusting showers are for. I really just mean general privacy. Just knowing that you never have complete privacy...It gets grating after a while.

-When one person in your building gets sick, you WILL be sick as well within 24 hours. This means you get sick a lot. This is fact.

The way my sleeping pattern is now completely fucked. Between nights out, different timed lectures, on/off seminars and then a job I had on top of that, trying to get a routine was impossible.

However, this has led to more naps which I quickly realised are the greatest things in the world.

God I love this post. This made me smile. I live in Australia, and whilst we do have "dorms" not many really use them since most ppl live close to their Uni's anyways.

I take it your American? I heard that American dorms are all basically used for having copious amounts of sex. C/D?
Oddly enough, I can't really confirm or deny that. I never brought anyone back to my room, and neither did my roommate. One of my FRIENDS had to deal with his roommate using the room for sex all the time, but the girl in question lived next door to them, so I'm not sure that counts. I don't know, maybe everyone else was having crazed monkey-sex all the time, but it certainly wasn't my experience. (*insert "forever alone guy" picture here* I'm too lazy.)

I don't know anything about this...buut

although I think you seem rather negative/bitter....yeah, it seems to me going to university for creative pursuits like writing/art is hit and miss, from a career perspective it doesnt seem all that helpful and I guess the only benfits I see is A.to say you "have a degree" B.improve your craft..which as you say isnt working out for you

I wonder how important it is to have a degree "in the feild". As I said I don't know, but it seems with thease things you can learn what you want on your own if you put in the effort

again, not to say its useless, I'm sure its helped many people and it depends on what you put into it.....

The debt you're left with when it's all over, the endless calls from debt collectors, & having bad credit for decades.

Passive aggressive course mates who prefer to emo in their little corners and groupies than actually voice out their concerns and get problems solved. Buncha kiddies that need to be treated like they are in 8th grade.

This thread has convinced me that I am, in fact, in the best university in the world.

Really gotta wonder what sequence of events led to that thing existing. I'm imagining a board room full of people.

Guy 1: "All right fellas, tuition is down. How do we fix this?"
Guy 2: "What if we improved our classes and offered a better educational experience?"
Guy 1: "That's a horrible idea. Next."
Guy 3: "What if we built, like, a giant pig on the lawn?"
*board room goes silent for literally two full minutes*
Guy 1: "Holy shit, you're a genius. Get this man a promotion!"

Here's another, and one people might agree with me on, I hate when I see girls dolled up in makeup strolling to class in pajama pants. It kind of cheapens the whole feeling that this is an actual place of learning.
They obviously earned their place there, why should they be able to wear what they're comfortable in?

At least you get that, any time I get asked it's "Oh, so you're going to be a teacher?", I hate that question.

OP: Group work, I think it's an only-child thing but I just hate it. Also people who raise their hand in class but, instead of asking a question, they try to show off how much they know. Save it for your assignments.

A pig? Don't be stupid. That's a rubber duck/marzipan pig hybrid. Kinda like Trico, except cooler.

In all seriousness, the creation of this thing actually has nothing to do with the university. It was created by this crazy artist fellow, and it wasn't originally located at the campus.

It just comes off as a bit rude to the professor like one doesn't take their education seriously. As for the comment of that they earned their place, perhaps that could be said twenty years ago when it was a bit harder to get into colleges. Nowadays colleges are mostly a business (well in the United States) though that is an entirely different issue. I'm surprised many people are defending those that wear pajama pants to class, but I see many people complaining about those who wear sagging "hiphop" pants when in their neighborhoods. Certain social settings should at least require a decent presentation. One doesn't wear pajama pants to a funeral, but I'm sure some will defend that as being that they will be comfortable in their time of loss.

I'm not saying to outlaw it. Just saying that it is very tacky.

It is tacky. Exceptionally so.

OT: Teachers who act unprofessionally and/or refuse to do the job they're being fucking paid to do. That's a general education thing that I've encountered in every level of it.
