Here is the link to the article http://nypost.com/2013/09/30/bikers-attack-suv-after-driver-rams-riders/

and here is the a link the the video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ukdkgLYYbw&noredirect=1

I would do all the spoiler and stuff but don't know how.

Anyways a tdlr is this A large group of bikers ride up on an SUV, the SUV honks and then a few seconds later a Biker getting in front of the SUV and break checks the SUV. SUV can't stop in time and bumps the bike. Then everyone of the bikers block off traffic and the SUV. The guy has a kid in the back seat and is surrounded by bikers, so he runs them over and gets out of there only to be ran down and pulled out of the SUV and beaten.

So for discussion value, what would you have done if you where in that position.

Me personally I would have tried to take more of them out if they where following me, I also wouldn't have stopped unless stopped by a cop or if I drove straight to a police station. At this point its me fearing for my life and me protection my child.

Edit:

So They arrested someone already http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2013/10/01/228075261/nyc-police-studying-shocking-video-of-bikers-attacking-driver

Thanks Helmholtz Watson for the info to edit.

Turns out that now a cyclist has been arraigned. http://news.yahoo.com/suspect-arraigned-motorcycle-suv-brawl-nyc-152658109.html

Here is the article where they are trying to find others in the SUV attack.
http://gma.yahoo.com/police-release-photo-person-interest-alleged-suv-driver-180842566--abc-news-topstories.html

Edit(10-7-13): Turns out there is new video of these bikers going after a different vehicle.

Without really knowing all the facts, it's hard to take sides.

However, as someone who watches 98% of all cyclists cheerfully ignore all road rules and put everyone else in peril whilst doing so, I'm perfectly willing to assume it's the cyclists' fault.

EDIT: Oh wait these are BIKERS. I assumed it was bike riding cyclists.

Oh well, I still blame cyclists. No doubt there were a couple nearby that could've prevented the whole thing.

Honestly, if it were my kid in the car and they were trying to hurt me and possibly cause an accident, I'd drive over them, too. And wish I had a weapon in the car with me.

I'd also have driven as fast as I could to a crowded place, too, though. Even though the bystander effect would be on in full with a bunch of bikers surrounding one car. So I'd probably have to keep running them down if they surrounded the car.

Those bikers were looking for trouble, and they found it. I sincerely hope they all get punished for it.

I'd have rolled right over them in that scenario, considering they are threatening me and my child. Or, since this scenario is set in 'Murica, I'd fire a warning shot from the revolver in the glovebox.

As much as I feel it rather unreasonable for a random private citizen to own a military grade machinegun, a member of the public must be allowed to defend him or herself from people who were born with smegma in place for a brain.

On a more whimsical note, I'm considering taking a halberd with me when I'm going out. On account of the feral cyclists and moped-drivers. This reinforce that sentiment quite a bit. If the "gangsters" in the more segregated suburbs pottering about on their trimmed mopeds didn't already.

I've seen enough police craziest police chases to know that cars can go for ages on slashed tyres, why didn't he just drive to cop shop? You'll fuck up the car but I'd rather fuck up a car than my body. I'd maybe even nudge a few of them 'cos I'd be doing anything to discourage them.... Glad one might be paraplegic to be honest 'cos you should be held accountable for your actions (when people say "I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy" I say "I would and worse")

So much for bikers being scary looking but nice as pie.

They chased him 50 blocks.....and not a cop in sight....in the early afternoon....

The guy in the SUV was in the right to run them over (and the bikers are pretty stupid to pick a fight with a SUV).

Bikers are hardly better than cyclists tbh. Well ok, they tend to break less road rules but they're also faster and bigger making them just as dangerous.

Anyway, if I were in that SUV I would have thought "screw my tires i'm going to the nearest police station or until I see a cop".

Just fyi, there has been an update to this story so you might want to update your post. They arrested one guy, here's the link [http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2013/10/01/228075261/nyc-police-studying-shocking-video-of-bikers-attacking-driver].

To answer your question though, I would have had my wife immediately call the cops and then I would drive to the nearest police station.

This really makes me angry, those bikers are the sort of fucks that give all bikers a bad name and risk lives due to the ill-will they cause between bikers and drivers.

I hope they all have their bikes wrecked.

I've seen the video several times, read the news articles, and debated the story on another site.

My conclusion? I want an animated gif of the SUV climbing over bikes with "FUCK YOU I'M A RANGE ROVER" flashing on it.

I'd do the same thing. Without the getting stuck in traffic bit. I'd just stay on the highway until the cops caught up, or the bikers ran out of gas.

I didn't watch the whole video, I knew it would get rather upsetting from reading the article.

But I watched the beginning, where the bikers are just fucking with the SUV as well as other cars in the road because... reasons?

He had his wife and child with him. No fucking wonder he drove through/over them.

Me? I would have been reversing over them too, and crushing them all until they were nothing but puddles on the road if someone threatened the ones I love. This man showed remarkable restraint by doing what he did.

<------ Look at my avatar, I might be called a Judas for what I'm about to say. I think he should have driven over as many of them as he could.

One may be paralysed. Good. What would have been better though, would have been to fuck up many more of them.

Haha I think I know what site you where in. DSL reports right? lol

Anyways on topic. Thanks for the reply's and wanting to hear even more people with there take on it. So far pretty much everyone can agree that the guy was not in the wrong for getting out of dodge.

Totally not in the wrong. As a motorcyclist that is always in heavily armoured gear, and with a black visor, I admit we can look a little intimidating (but kids will always wave at me from their back-seats regardless!). Surrounded by a few hundred of them, yep, he didn't overreact.

To be honest though, the States seems to have way more wankers on motorcycles. Wherever I go here in the UK, I've always found bikers to be an amiable bunch, always friendly and chatty, no matter how large a group they're in. These 'stuntz crewz', riding around by the hundred, doing whatever the fuck they want, seems to be a bit of a problem stateside.

These guys aren't proper bikers. They're a fucking stain on the name of our passion.

EDIT : Dose of feelgood anyone?

Thankfully the guy and his family didn't get seriously hurt. Let's hope these jackass get slapped behind bars.

Wow those bikers are ridiculous. They swarm they highway, zipping around between lanes without signalling, and think it's funny to brake-check people. Then they go all angry mob when one of them gets bumped? Almost seems like they were looking for a confrontation.

I would have driven off too(avoiding as many people as possible) while having my wife was call the cops. The way the bikers behaved even before the SUV bumped one of them was unacceptable. Hell, I would have had my wife call the cops when I saw the huge pack of them driving recklessly.

Can they even be called "bikers?" I know they were riding, but...they seem too pathetic to be given that awesome a title. One guy was paralyzed, and people were hurt. They just gave him some black eyes and a few cuts in the face in retaliation. While filming it. And then they UPLOADED it! Can we just call them "Mentally Challenged 'Hell's Angels' Rejects?"

Seriously, they were little shit-stain people fucking with traffic, in dangerous ways that could only hurt them. And then the one guy in the SUV causes more damage to the what? Fifty bikers? He causes way more damage on average to the bikers he hit than the bikers did when they caught up with him.

This man is a fucking hero for not immediately backing up and killing as many as he possibly could in the defense of his wife and child. And these morons were incredibly stupid about it too. "Hey, this guy could easily take like, ten of us out right now in one go and no jury or judge would hold him accountable. We've gotten close enough to see who else is in the car, so we're now knowingly going after a car that has a young child in it. Let's threaten his family by threatening him. You gettin' this on film Jerry? Yeah, we're the best bikers ever. This in no way will turn the world against us." Only I doubt any one of them was intelligent enough to use words half as complicated.

I kind of wish he did take as many of them out as he could. We don't need these kind of people reproducing. Or threatening KIDS. Which they had to have known they were doing. So any sentence they get is richly deserved.

I'll caveat this by saying that I own and ride a motorcycle, and I love riding.

That being said, I can't stand these massive groups of wanna-be Hell's Angels and "Biker Boyz" who get together on the weekends and ride around like they're some kind of damn roving gang from "Mad Max". I don't blame the SUV guy in the slightest for what he did.

And I'll go ahead and say it: I'm glad to know that the SUV driver was Asian and not white, otherwise it wouldn't surprise me if we got to look forward to another 6 months of Zimmerman/Martin-esque news coverage.

Yeah, I ain't seeing the same thing everyone else is. After watching the video, I saw a slight accident and the bikers stop to confront the guy about it. So his reaction is to just to floor it over them? You can hardly blame them for being pissed off about that. This really stinks to me of the driver thinking "These guys are bikers, they're evil" and reacting poorly.

Of course, the bikers reacted poorly as well by giving chase. They should have taken the guys license plate and called the police instead, so it seems like neither side is really "right" here.

I could be wrong though, all I'm saying is what I saw in that video. Do we actually have any solid evidence that they were going to threaten the guy before he ran over them? After an accident, you are supposed to remain at the scene after all. From as far back as the camera is, all we can see is the bikers stopped and that is it.

See now... this is why I always carry my gun with me. If I had somebody chase me then try to pull me out of my car, I wouldn't hesitate to defend myself. At that point it's their life or mine.
