Why aren't more people playing this game?!

It's got solid gameplay, great characters, a story reminiscent of Isaac Asimov... and yet no one seems to even be aware of its existence.

Because it sold poorly?

To be honest, I do not talk about Binary Domain because I completely forgot it. In my opinion, all the creative ideas were misused, it's a mediocre and forgettable game.

Because it had that horrible, horrible forced vehicle section.

Also, the settings are bleh. Hard as hell to aim because the acceleration is all weird.

I don't think it was a bad game, but it definitely loses points for the above. Also, I was kind of bugged that there were zero human enemies. Even Vanquish had a segment where you fought US Marines.

How is that a negative point?

Total Annihilation had zero human characters or units and it was an awesome game.

It was also an RTS. It was nice how the robots in Binary Domain could be broken down, but that mechanic was only really great for the bosses, I thought. When I shoot someone, I want to see them bleed. When I blow something's arm off, I want to watch them squirm with pain. When I blow their head off, I would like them to die (Although most of the basic enemies would actually just become allies when you shot their heads off in BD, which was kind of cool regardless).

Basically, I prefer killing humans over robots/aliens. Just a personal thing.

I'm basically just waiting until I can find a decently priced copy locally for my 360. The game has intrigued me since I first heard of it, but it didn't intrigue me enough to spend all that much money on it.

I like it for the same reasons others hated it. Tongue in cheek story like it was made in the PS2 era, Gameplay that's a hundred times better than Gears of War, It had good pacing as most sections didn't outstay their welcome, the world was interesting and varied. Also I like shooting robots as I can shoot parts off them. Plus they are better suited as bulletspunges as unloading a clip into a humanoid just feels wrong to me.

I have the 360 version although from what I gather the PC port had some janky mouse settings at launch.

Your local gameshop must be a ripp off merchant as its one of the cheapest 360 games ther is. I bought it for £10 a month after release.

Yeah, I haven't checked too recently, but I know new copies of the game were still in the neighbourhood of at least $40 (out of $60 at launch) last time I did look.

Because it wasn't a good game.

Great characters? Are you kidding? It had a collection of cliches. Oh look, a snarky British guy. Oh look, a reckless, loudmouthed show off American guy. Oh look, a big, jovial boisterous black guy. Oh look, an attractive but cold Asian lady. Oh look, some other woman who... who, err... well, who has no discernible personality whatsoever. (Oh look, a French combat robot who was actually kind of awesome.)

Story reminiscent of Isaac Asimov? Once again, are you kidding? There is one, maybe two scenes where they try to do something with the story. The rest is just shooting robots that are between you and that one building.

The gameplay is standard cover-based third person shooting. There's nothing hugely wrong with it, but it's not going to impress anyone.

Funny thing is, I actually enjoyed the game. But I don't consider it underrated. I consider it to be a lousy game that got exactly the reception it deserved. It just happens to be a lousy game I had fun with.

Becaus eit is way more fun to watch the blood gush out of your oponent as you unload a shotgun into thier chest. Now compare that to a *clank" When you shoot a robot, which one is better. As Yahtzee said, "It is more fun when I know they are going to have to clean up with a mop, not a broom".

It was alright. the game was mediocre at best and the online was meh but overall i feel like a fool for buying the game at full price instead of waiting for a price drop but it was innovative but it just didn't have all it's eggs in the right basket to make it stand out of the rest.

Eh. The controls on the PC were pretty piss-poor on release, actually. I heard that there was a patch to fix the mouse aiming (the acceleration made it feel like you were still using an analog stick, and your view would roll up or down slightly even when you were moving perfectly straight to the side), but I didn't really care enough to keep playing at that point.

I've heard it's excellent, I was actually thinking of picking it up today, given that I've just started holidays and this looks to be a very enjoyable game, and it sounds refreshing to not have to actually kill people :)

It's actually reminding me of "Vanquish" right now: a Japanese SF third-person shooter published by SEGA where your main foes are robots, seemingly well-received but flew under most people's radars. :p

Not sure what you're confused about, so I'll just go with an overview. The enemies in Binary Domain are all destructible robots. As in, you can shoot armor plating and limbs off with focus fire. Shooting a robot's head off will cause it to turn friendly to you and shoot your enemies.

This is a cool mechanic for sure, although it's incredibly annoying when body shots seem to have a high chance of blowing the enemy's legs off and you do not want that. Crawlers are fast, do high damage, hit incredibly quickly, and give little indication that they're hitting you. It's not uncommon to go from full health to almost dying within a second or two of one reaching you.

Anyway, he asked why I marked the game down for all of the enemies being robots (With the exception of literally 5 enemies, but really, those don't count because they are for all intents and purposes robots), and I responded with 'I prefer to shoot humans'.

There's also the fact that the only human enemies in both games
are US Marines. In Vanquish, it's Burn's squad and in Binary Domain it's the Cuirass Unit
, both of which are very surprising when they happen.

I actually really liked the game. I only stopped playing because the multiplayer was dead.

The game had a lot of potential, but it just didn't follow through with it. The "control your squad with your voice" feature was pretty cool, until it mistook my breathing for obscenities.
