I hate anime bullshit games but long live the queen was fun for me (for a strange reason). Roug like were never my thing too, but the binding of isaac is a great game IMHO
The subject of anime bullshit could be an entire topic onto itself. Long Live the Queen could easily be seen as a 'chose your own adventure' book in video game format(at least to me). I think that's why a lot of people actually liked it.

For Rogue Likes(lites) I do like games that have a sense of progression. Rogue Legacy is probably one of the kings here, and Risk of Rain lets you unlock new item types, characters, and even additional rules now.

Easily one of my favourite games last year. I was dearly in love with the original and can't say it's any different with this one.

Also, fuck the skeletons, fuck Dingle and FUUUUUUUUUCK Gurdy. Those bosses can go die in a fire. I struggle on those guys every time, yet I can breeze past the major end game bosses with ease. :p
Make sure to watch Dingle's face, he gives a different expression for when he's going to shoot some projectiles or rush you. Any time he rushes you, it will be three dashes and then he'll stop to take a breather. Also when he whistles he's either about to shoot you or spawn little dingles, I forget which.
Actually, he spawns little poos, then shoots at you.

Game of the (last) year for me. I logged almost 300 hours in the original and got platinum God. Not sure how many hours I've got in Rebirth (playing on the Vita and there's no play time recorded as far as I know) but it's a decent amount. Probably won't get true platinum God though. I suck as The Lost.

Aside from that my only complaint is that the boss rotation is kinda shitty. I see the horsemen over and over and over for some reason, but when I did the boss rush after Mom I saw easily six boss monsters that I had never come across before - so like, what is that? I'm fighting the same five assholes over and over and there were a plethora of different bosses I hadn't even seen before?
Some of the bosses actually have to be unlocked in order to fight them normally, but the boss rush is static, the boss order is always the same. So you're probably fighting against bosses you haven't unlocked yet.

The Binding of Isaac games are quite possibly my favourite games. I've spent about 450 hours across both of them and I'm a few item pickups away from Real Platinum God (having unlocked Godhead yesterday).

It has just the right difficulty for me. The randomness makes every run feel different enough that I don't get bored too quickly. It feels good to get a powerful run with good items and it can also feel good to triumph on a weak run. The relatively simple mechanics make it easy to pick up and play, but there is also a fair amount of depth to the strategy involved. Also I enjoy the dark themes.

Overall a very enjoyable experience. Would recommend.

I'm nearly Real Platinum God in it. All I have left is making Super Meat Boy and finding a few Secret Room Items, and that's it. I've even unlocked Godhead, that's how much I like the game.

It's not perfect. Character balances in particular stick out to me. Not just The Lost being plague on the game, not just ??? being a challenge character, but so many characters aren't worth playing as because of how much better other characters are. Judas, Isaac, Azazel, and in my opinion Eve are just way, way better than the remaining characters on the selection screen. Some bosses (The Adversary, The Bloat, Carrion Queen, Satan, The Haunt, Mask of Infamy, to a smaller degree It Lives and Isaac) are complete bullshit and are unfun to go against. Deals with the devil and angel need help, because Devil Deals are 95% of the time the stronger path to go down with a more varied, modular item pool. And there are plenty of annoying enemies (Hosts, Lumps, Wall Creepers) in the game, but with how many rooms are seeming designed to cater to making the enemies even more annoying, I think Edmund was proud of that. Patches are rather slow to come out, and what content they do release usually introduces another bug and fixes only one or two issues. And, most surprising, despite the new engine and acknowledgement of the PC crowd, the game has pretty poor modding support outside of simple reskins.

But still, I've owned the game for not even two months and I've happily put 110 hours in it, tomorrow I'm doing probably my thirteenth try to get Super Meat Boy (FUCK CONQUEST, I'VE GOTTEN CONQUEST INSTEAD OF DEATH NINE OUT OF THE TWELVE TIMES), and am waiting eagerly for the Wrath of the Lamb-tier DLC announcement that should be coming soon. And keep in mind, I'm saying this and I don't even like roguelikes. It's well worth $15.

I dunno, if you're a reckless as I am, Samson can be pretty hilarious. And I'm not as hesitant to go into Curse Rooms, since even if all you get from the chests are spiders you still get the attack buff from going through the door.
