Juan Carlos Fresnadillo has been hired by Universal to direct Bioshock http://geeknewstoday.wordpress.com/2009/08/24/geek-news-for-monday-august-24-2009/
That's because that's the only English movie he's done, the rest, if what I read on Wikipedia is correct, have been in Spanish. And there were only a few in Spanish. So it seems like he's probably an up and coming director, but it looks like he's won some awards, and I'm perfectly ready to believe that the movie could be great. I realize that a lot of people didn't like Silent Hill, but I've always felt that it wasn't just a good video game movie, but it was a good movie period, it may not have been solid for a horror peice, but from the perspective of being a thoughtful cinematic peice it was well done. I have the feeling that Mr. Fresnadillo could also make a deep thoughtful film out of the Bioshock premise, and those who are willing to forget that it was a game, and just enjoy it as a movie, could very well find an excelent film. The world of Rapture is rich in potential, it would be a shame not to allow it that potential.atomictoast said:28 Weeks Later was fantastic, but I don't know anything else he's done.
You hit it right on the money. Especially with Bioshock, if they base it on the first one, I will hate it. I will feel no immersion whatsoever, and I won't like the story because I don't get to choose what to do with the little sisters. Like you said, a lack of interactivity destroys anything branching off of a game.HardRockSamurai said:Oh dear, I was really hoping that Universal would just forget about the whole damn thing.
You see, when you attempt to turn a popular video game franchise into a movie, you're removing the crucial element that made the video game so popular in the first place; interactivity.
Without interactivity, a movie based off a video game might as well be a series of live action cutscenes you can't skip. I don't care how good the director is (I admit, I like 28 Weeks Later), but this movie will never be good.
I doubt it will be the same plot, would be less reason to watch the movie over playing the game.sentrosi said:The only way i want this be filmed is first person! I dont want to see the actor, that defeats the entire purpose.
And i wonder what ending they'll base it off of.
Thats basically the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. However if one game has the ability to make a good movie, its Bioshock. I'd just like to see more of rapture. The only way they could do it right, was if they took a great deal of license with the game. Which they won't.HardRockSamurai said:Oh dear, I was really hoping that Universal would just forget about the whole damn thing.
