I really think they've made a bad choice with pitting you as a big daddy. This severely limits the kinds of friends and foes you will encounter. At least, I don't think any rapture citizens will socialize with you..
Yeah, because they were all just chomping at the nit to socialize with you in the first game.
But bioshock 2 is 10 years before 1 right, isn't the society still intact then?
It was, to a point. Then the Big Sister came back and reinstituted the Adam trade, so it's right back to the way it was. Besides, there weren't many people left even before she came back.

EDIT:No, wait. It's 10 years AFTER.
It is? Did they change that?
It being a prequel was always just a rumor. A popular one, but a rumor nonetheless.

Oh sorry on my part then

As far as socializing is concerned in this one you will actually be able to meet survivors that will talk to you.

So the big sister wants to keep on doing the corpse-eating-slug-ADAM-gaining-thing going on?
wasn't she saved? What really happened at jacks funeral? since he's accelerated growth he'd probably be dead in 10 years. (anyone hook on that?)

Really? Where'd you hear that? It wasn't in Game Informer that I can remember.

Thats good, one thing that annoyed me about Bioshock is that EVERY person and their immediate family was out to kill you and ONLY you for no good reason. Other survivors will make it somewhat more structured.

It wasn't one of the Little Sisters that had anything to do with Jack, it was one Tennenbaum got out (so that both endings are canon). And yes, she was saved from the whole Little Sister thing, but she seems to love the status quo for some reason. Seriously, the GI article claimed that, aside from story events, the only time she comes after you is if you upset the status quo (usually by killing Big Daddies, no matter what you do with their Little Sisters).

I think Bioshock 2 is looking really great, judging by the gameplay vid it definitely seems to have the atmosphere and the combat isn't too slow paced (being a big daddy and all), but I just hope they fix the core gameplay. It ended up being really quite slow and samey. 'Go here, kill these guys' or 'Go here, fetch that, bring it back here' just repeated endlessly and once you defeated your first couple of big daddy's, it was no harder to kill the others than it was a splicer. I haven't even finished the first one due to this reason, I love the story, I love the atmosphere, I love the awesome level design but the gameplay does not inspire me to come back. I really hope they fix this in the next game.

I have a subscription to the Official Australian Xbox Magazine and they had this big interview and game play test that tells some stuff.

I see what you mean, but that was intended to really drill forth the idea that society had collapsed. I mean, they'd had a civil war going on for quite some time, not many normal people are going to be left.

this whole big daddy future thing sounds like fun but It would be pretty cool if it was a prequil and you got to be a citizen fighting in Rapture when it looked good as the whole thing went to hell.

Game looks good judging by the preview vids but it just seems so unnecessary. BioShock ended the story neatly and this sequel seems like a typical developer attempt to gain extra money from a finished story. And Ken Levine isnt even working but a new studio full of unknown noobs.

According to Game Informer, you're already there; you're the first ever Big Daddy, and it takes place 10 years after the original.
Wait... You are the first ever Big Daddy but it takes place after the original? That doesnt make any sense to me?

I think maybe a game in which you are a character in Rapture when it all goes tits up would be great; watching as the city tears itself apart would be an interesting if not slightly warranted concept to explain the story to its fullest degree possible.
Think about it like this: I have an older brother, but he doesn't just disappear when the newer model (read: me) appears, does he?
my bad :p i understand now! lol

i dunno if it'd work, but what if the next bioshock told a different story altogether? not in rapture, but something in a similar vein?
It's still in Rapture. Besides, Bioshock wouldn't be the same without Rapture.
well that's cool if they have a new concept. being a big daddy should be interesting, though they do move pretty slow a lot of the time. and yeah i know it wouldn't be the same, but it would be a different direction if they made a whole new place with parallels to rapture. but yeah i guess you're right, it wouldn't work.

I hope they do SOEMTHING more with weapon mods..I found a lot of stuff IN BS...lack luster and under done but Wmods should be easy...since you have MONEY, with a money system you can buy mods.

Heres the simplest mod system I could think up that would be great in BS.

Much like in BS you get "upgraded slots" for weapons like the mods in BS only these are universal expansion slots that can be added to a weapon of your choice and stack mods up to 3 levels, each weapon can have up to 3 with explosives having 2 more for effects like poison, bio goo, ice, ect.

You then can buy or find the mods themselves(can hold up to 1-2 of each) or just one and use a bank vending machine that holds items ala RE chests I this because you need a mod station to install them for free, remove old mods for 100$(money max up'd to 1-2K), vending machines could be upgraded to act as a mod station.
---------------

Since BS is unfinished and under polished I really don't want BS2 but I've had some good conversations with the mod staff at 2K forums... I might just pick it up just because they appear semi competent in SOME things.

Again, you're the prototype for both models, so you get a drill and guns.
