This just spring into my head today as I was watching Les Miserables. And I just had to post it somewhere to get it out of my head. A Bioshock Musical! Of course! Why hasn't anyone thought of this yet? Musicals are a great way to tell a story, and Bioshock was the first thing to pop into my head.

So the reason I am posting this is, that I'm wondering if anyone would want to help me with this. I'm thinking about writing some songs and animating them for a short series on Youtube or Newgrounds. What do you say?

P.S. Can anyone here sing?

EDIT: I am quite aware that most musicals suck. But if done right, they are great ways of storytelling. Besides, the idea itself is more than a little tongue-n-cheek.

No, that would be terrible. I'm not surprised you got this idea after seeing Les Miserables, as that is also terrible.

You thinking of the same Musical I am? Because it doesn't appear we are on the same page here. I respect your opinion, but would you care to expand on that a little?

I actually see this working.. Just imagine Jack in the middle of a room defending himself against splicers coming at him in different directions to a beat..

It's a game. A game in which the main character doesn't talk. Most of the talking is done through a radio. Yeah that sounds like grade A musical material.

Besides the splicers look like drugged up psychopaths, not the people who suddenly preform an organized musical number. Also, where would the big daddies fit in?

So yeah it wouldn't work.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised to see the splicers cast in Guys and Dolls as written by Sander Cohen. This reminds me of people pointing to the bible saying "You can't make a musical out of that!" before Andrew Lloyd Weber blows your mind with Jesus Christ Superstar.

There's so much fertile material for a musical in BioShock that I am instantly drawn to the idea. If you're serious about this idea, count me in.

Sorry, I meant to ask why you aren't fond of Les Miserables. But on the point of your "main character doesn't talk" deal. I was thinking that the musical would be a prequel to the game. As to how Rapture fell. It would be based around Andrew Ryan and his crazy ideas.

Oh well I hate Les Miserables because it's stupid. All the characters act like complete idiots.

... O_O

A.. A prequel.. It reminds me of Nightmare Before Christmas! When Jack experiments in his lab while singing!

Yep, I'm so in anyway I can. I'm great at lyrics! ^_^

Reminds me of why I could barely get into Romeo and Juliet. The only reasonably sane character was Mercutio, and they killed him off.

Maybe you are confused

musicals = suck (unless funny, which = dr. horrible or singing in the rain)

rock operas = not as much suck

metal operas = where its at

plus, big daddys singing for their little sisters would...suck

games that would make decent operas:
guitar hero (in like, 3 [i think] you rock your way to a battle with satan)
Portal
MAYBE beyond good and evil

...okay, thats it.

Portal would not make a good opera. THERE WAS MORE TO THE GAME THAN THE FUCKING CREDITS SONG.

Portal.. As an OPERA?
..
WHAT?
Come on! A musical about a deranged man and huge misunderstood metal beings protecting little girls would be better than... Well, a Portal opera. lmao. XD

Thank you, I now feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Besides. Does the phrase "tongue in cheek" mean anything to you. It is ridiculous, I'll give you that.

But it would be an interesting way to tell the story for A. those who haven't played the game. And B. Those who HAVE played it and are bore and want something to watch on youtube. It will still be fun to make.
