I named her "Cassandra", after the seer from Greek mythology who was cursed to have all of her predictions ignored.

John Shepard was my mostly renegade main solider that imported through all 3 games.

Angel (Fem)Shepard was my paragon vanguard playthrough in ME1
Alice (Fem)Shepard was my paragon infiltrator playthrough in ME2

Didn't bother importing Angel into ME2, don't remember why.

Didn't play ME3 more than once so no FemShepard playthrough, might be worth doing it at some point in the unknown future with the new ending DLC, just to see it ... but can't be asked for now at least.

Rather ordinary names, nothing wrong with that.

I went with Neige, the name of the protagonist from my comic series, then again I'm told I take that stuff too seriously.

My male soldier was John. I named him after the Stargate: Atlantis character. The spelling of Shepard may have been different but he looked the same (once I was through with him).

My female biotic was Alice. She was based on the biotically powered super-soldier in the Resident Evil movies. Once again, not only did I name her that. I also made her look like that.

No Commander Douchebag Shepard? Internet. You disappoint me.

Captcha: be my friend. No, internet, you have failed me this day.

You see, I was smart. I called My Sheppard 'Commander', so everyone at least referred to her by her first name sometimes (Seriously though, I never understood US entertainment and everyone being refereed to by their last name)
James: Commander!

Shepard: You're not supposed to call me that anymore, James.

OT: I will say I find it kind of interesting how the popular names are all Anglo-styled, even in other European countries. I guess they figure it's appropriate to a name like "Shepard," especially given how peculiarly strong cultural/ethnic lines are in the far future.

Male Shepard: Roland, Eddie, Jantra.

Female Shepard: Susan, Indra, Jantra.

Jantra always shows up in all my games where I create my own characters. It's a character I made that can possess people, and travel through time and space when it's current host dies. All of my Jantras are canonically the same character to me.

Anyway, the rest of my names aren't on the list, despite being relatively normal. I was slightly confused when I was playing as Indra and then found a gun by the same name in ME3, though.

I'd like to point to a certain, older Zero Punctuation episode regarding the Legend of Zelda (one of the first such episodes) and say that I'm on board with that name as being the first choice for yours truly in any given gaming situation.

Huh. I didn't realise Jane Shepard was the default name. I used that one over both games. I say "both" because ME3 isn't available on Steam, I'm not getting Origin for just one game, and EA hardly ever comes out with anything of interest, anyway.

Great, another creepy example of a company collecting data on what I'm doing in a game.

Dear God, I hope no one tracks what I've done in GTA games... what would my momma think...

Not surprised that neither of mine made the list (Roslyn [main] and Soren [secondary, mainly made to get achievements]).

Hah! I did the same thing.

That way when anybody said Commander, I pretended that they actually new my name.

I also did the same thing in Dragon Age Origins, naming my character Warden.

In Dragon Age 2, my character was Hawke Hawke. (Try saying that three times fast :p )

To be honest I knew my Shepard's name which was "Generic" would end up unique among gamers, but some of those names don't really go with my predictions. I thought it will have more standard SF names from moves and TV series.

I'm sad that Matumbo didn't make it on the list.
There is nothing more fun than making the most African looking Shepard naming him Matumbo then listening to Mark Meer's SUPER Canadian ass voice come out of his face.
I'm also surprised the Default shep names Jane and John didn't make it up there

"I am Commander Matumbo Shepard. My people came from Kenya - my great-great-great-great grandfather was a warrior chief, he slew a lion with just a knife and his courage. You do not frighten me, Saren. So shut it, hoser. Take off, eh?"

OT:
My Soldier (male) was named "Max".
The Infiltrator (female) that my sister and I played together was "Lilith". She was named after my cat.

And yes, the cat is named after Lilith the Siren from Borderlands. Such meta. So rabbit hole.

Do people really go with their normal names when playing games like these? I usually try to do something at least a little different.
You can't expect unusual names to make it to the top, there's just so many possibilities that one entry won't accumulate enough points.
If you wanna see how many people go with unusual names, you should probably compare the amount of usual (top100 male/female maybe) names with the amount of other names.

That being said I also normally go for unusual names.

Wow, my renegade Shepard was also named after Lilith from Borderlands
