Hi Escapists, it's time for today's instalment of "Why do you do these horrible things, EA? Why?!"

Bioware Social

TL/DR: A social games developer named Klicknation has been acquired by EA and rebranded as "Bioware Social." So yeah, the once proud name of Bioware is now going to be mentioned in the same breath as Zynga.

Thoughts?

Lame.
It seems very clear that they're only rebranding it as part of Bioware for the recognition that the name brings.
Wonder if they'll start rebranding every developer they own as "Bioware Something or other".

Thought you were talking about the Bioboards... Yeah this is starting to get to me a little bit. I've been a pretty big and even vocal defender of Bioware in the past year. Especially in regards to Dragon Age 2 but now hearing they're adding multiplayer to the next one or they're doing some kind of "war" game after Mass Effect. It's just getting kind of hard to stay on board with them is all.

Oh an on topic it'll be so they can have more tie in Facebook games like Dragon Age Legends... Maybe a farmville clone where you have a farm in Ferelden?

I wonder if theres a brand infringement case they could make? I mean if scrolls can be sued for infringment on the Elder scrolls series certainly Bioware could sue to keep their name instead of seeing a Bioware social knockoff

It's lame that they are ruining Bioware's good name like that (Along with forcing them to make the crud that was DA2...) but I think it's arisen from the DA2 facebook games etc.

EA is full on obsessed with facebook atm. If you share screenshots to facebook on the Sims 3 you get extra items and 'achievements', I kid you not.

Ohhh... I see.

EA are trying to get some leverage out of Bioware's good name by stamping it on every two-bit studio they get their claws into. Of course, being EA, they're just shitting all over that good name in the process.

Remember that "new Bioware project by a new Bioware studio" that is turning out to be some kind of tank warfare game? I'm guessing that's a similar situation.

Ah well, just another reason to give EA the finger. I'll add it to the list. Just a shame about all the Bioware hate that will be generated as a result.

Well, Bioware has had some success by tying social/flash game RPGs into it's Dragon Age products and I believe the idea here is to get a specialist company together to develop such things for them.

The basic idea being that something like "Dragon Age: Journies" or whatever it was called helped promote the product, so they want to do more of that, but don't want Bioware to take the time away from it's main product development, so they are obtaining a group of specialists to design the tie-in social games.

I'd be more shocked if this hadn't already been going on for so long.
