I live next to a big shopping mall, and let me tell you, the traffic is crazy. I could hardly cross my street for a few minutes on my way to the gym!

It scares me... being in a crowd like that, possibility to be trampled... no thanks!

I went to Best Buy for a new computer monitor last night and it was calm and orderly. I took my ticket, waited in line, payed, got my monitor, and left.

that's people's reasoning in a nutshell, you save massive amounts of time and money while trading it in for stress/frustration at its peak.
I'd rather buy people reasonable presents that wouldn't run me into debt. Whatever way you look at it people who behave like this for a decent deal are vicious, petty, materialistic scum. Not a single person I know would put themselves through that.

That video is from Walmart. That explains a lot right there. They have a... certain clientele that would behave like animals for the sake of a deal.

Went to Target, Wal-Mart and two local comic shops this Black Friday. I always go out on Black Friday just to drink in the chaos. I have no hopes for any particular buys on these outings so whenever I find stuff I want to buy it's just a plus. I quite enjoy the event, not sure why so many people shun it.

Loot List!

Vampire Knight Volumes 7 and 8 (for a gift) - $5.99 each
Neon Genesis Evangelion Volumes 1 through 3 - $12.99
2 Ice Age Magic Packs - $3.50 each
Assorted New Comics - $1 each
Pathfinder Figure Booster - $3
Sherlock Holmes DVD (also a gift) - $4
Survive, Escape From Atlantis Board Game (yet another gift) - $18

Part of it originates with bait and switch tactics for Christmas shopping. For example, a chain store in a large newspaper spread in large bold type offers XBox360s for $100. In the fine print, it would be for the first 10 customers only, and after that it is the regular $150 sale price. Well for some people, they'll camp the night before and fight everyone when the door opens just to save $50 on an XBox. A sensible person would preserve their dignity and just pay the extra money. But there are plenty of shoppers who gladly play this game and truth be told they are probably enjoying it. So, whatever floats your boat. Welcome to America.

So that is why people fight each other in the department store--that is where that originated. Anyway, the media and marketers caught wind of this and started playing it up to the point where Black Friday is some kind of supplemental holiday, and people being the sheep they are do what their overlords command.

I know people who buy Christmas gifts during this time period. I never bothered to compare prices but probably on average things are much cheaper during Black Friday than any old Christmas sale.

Correct me if im wrong but isn't this some universal day for companies to empty their stock for the fiscal year or something?

Anybody got some personal experiences on comparing Black Friday (online) sales to Cyber Monday (this still a thing right) sales?

I really enjoy Black Friday, its a nice goal to save for and i get relatively good goodies for a nice price. Though this comes from the fact i never really buy anything throughout the year. The price of patience is good.

What the hell? I knew that that black friday was some sort of sale day, but what that video shows is just insane. Is it this bad everywhere? Also, why are people so crazy about this, are every item something like 90% off? Never seen something like this. Lastly, what do you do on black friday?

That's actually only a small part of what Black Friday is like. For most places its a crowded and it had sales and its just a big shopping day. Watching those videos and thinking everything is like that would be like watching videos of the LA riots and thinking that's what all of LA is like all the time.

I like laughing at the people that are camped out near Best Buy 3 days before Black Friday. It's like none of those people have heard of the internet. I don't get why people don't just either take advantage of the Black Friday deals online, which seem to be just as good as the ones at the stores, or just wait till Cyber Monday for even better deals.

which is perfectly fine, i don't know how many people you have to buy for, but for me, and many others, i have 20-30 people i have to think about when buying gifts, and that racks up a shit ton of money (unless i buy them fucking useless gifts, then i feel like an ass, especially if they give me something good/i wanted)

this is why people go through the midnight madness, to get the people they care about what they want (at a super cheap ass price)

granted this year, i didn't do any kind of black friday shopping (nor is it anywhere near that bad in my area, it's really busy sure, but it isn't a stampede or anything, pretty similar to high school passing period if anything.)

They were camping out only 3 days before black friday for you? Over here we had people camping out an entire week before the big day. My friends and I took the opportunity to point and laugh maniacally.

Its embarrassing as a citizen of these United States that I have to watch other citizens act like animals just to save a few dollars on shit they don't need. All those dipshits at wally world, you know the ones who line up at 2 am just to be the first ones there, don't realize there's still two pallets of the shit that they're running over people to get in the back. Sometimes I feel like we should let everyone in to these big box stores, making sure everyone is in there, then sealing the doors and detonating the building. I mean fuck, how much more of an ignorant pig can you be?

I was taught at school that Black Friday was a day in the early 70s when the IRA preformed mass bombings across Belfast. I always thought it was strange that Americans would celebrate the day. Turns out it was Bloody Friday, but something about my assumption still fits the bill I think.

For me, online not inline.

I bought PS Vita Assassin's Creed bundle + PS All Star + 3 month PS plus for $200 on Amazon.

I say that's pretty good deal. So you get the idea how Black Friday is like here in the states.
