I don't take anything on Facebook seriously. If you want to drum up support for a project, there are better ways to do it.
There's worse ways to do it, too -- not to mention more expensive ways. Facebook has the virtue of being free, which is good when you're a hobbyist mod development team working on no budget in your spare time.

OT: Eh, I clicked like. I figure it won't hurt, and now I'll actually get updates on Facebook when we get some new information once every three years or so :p
Nothing's free, you're paying with all your personal data... and your soul...
And in some social circles, your integrity.

Well considering the project dropped off the face of the Earth, bribing unless is probably the only way to accurately assess who still cares. Would you like the page purely to give them accurate statistics? No of course you wouldn't.

For us, sure. I know darned well I'm being data mined, and while it does bug me on some level, for the most part it's kind of an "eh." It's one of those things where, if I wanted privacy, I'd be logging into anonymous IRC networks through TOR. Anything short of that, and I can almost guarantee you someone is getting data off of you. Anyway, that's not what I was talking about. What I meant was that for the Black Mesa Source guys, it's as close to free as possible. They're giving up some personal data, I guess, but it's stuff they want public anyway.

In your analogy about the users being the product, users like the Black Mesa Source devs are a part of the bait that gets the other users on the site in the first place.

I don't know why. I don't really care to know why. All I know is that 13,000 more people clicking that little thumb means that we'll actually get to see something that hopefully is not (admittedly well done) screenshots.
they just released some new pictures on facebook for it, it 's the cover art and CD art, not that it's saying anything, but if they got those completely done and uploaded...maybe there is hope more details will be released soon?

People still pretend to hate Facebook? Didn't that hipster faze end a while ago?
What about it is pretending? I hate all social media sites, go figure.
You don't hate social media. Quit being so dramatic and hyperbolic. Disliking something is a far cry from hate. You hate the guy that murders your mum. You dislike getting stuck in traffic. You hate racism. You dislike it when there's nothing on the TV.

I rue the day someone tells me how they think I should feel about something.

I do hate it, it creates a form of communication that excludes people who aren't "connected", it creates drama where there should be none, "liking something" is the most lazy way of expressing approval rather than actually making a response. The fact that it is considered "social media" is even more ironic considering this.

Are you one of those people who say "you shouldn't use "hate", it's a strong word" ?
Cause that's precisely why I use it.

Your little list of reasons for "hating" something is quite silly and a far cry from anything even remotely approaching something that would cause actual hatred. Murder is cause for hate. Rape is cause for hate. Cruelty is cause for hate. Thinking something is unsocial and lazy is not cause for hate. I maintain my opinion; you don't hate it. The word's simply been diluted in common usage by over-dramatic people.

I think they're fan made (the album is called "Fan Love"), but if not, it might explain all the delays; maybe Valve hired them, like they did with the L4D devs.

So you're saying: "If I don't think it's worthy of hatred, then other people can't actually be hating it." That's quite self-centered don't you think? But if you choose to deny my view, than so be it. But don't let that "it's not cause for hate" attitude prevent you from actually making an argument, otherwise you're just being pedantic.

Everyone seems really shy to hit the like button, I'm really confused why since the most it'll do is tell facebook and friend you like a shooting game. Wow scary. Isn't it good to let modders know you care about the project?

yeah I looked closer after I posted, slight Derp, but still they looked nice IMO. Still would be cool either way to print em off and have em if anyone was that giddy about the project.

Yeahh I don't quite understand some of the hypocritical reasons, not to mention the whole "social media" aspect of hating it (when in fact, being on the escapist is a clear form of social media, so there is that..)

It's the most efficient and easiest way to get the word out and to give people updates on it without them having to check it every damn week, not to mention it's on the biggest social media website on the internet, I really don't see why people are questioning it so much.

It's not that big a deal and everyone seems to be giving "..I GUESS I'll go give it a like". Shut the hell up and just hit the like button if you're interested! Show them some love!

I'm wondering if this is why I don't see many throwing likes on my online comic ..from actual friends.
