Hello all!
Noob here. Well, I hope I'm posting this in the right section.
I have a problem with a few games on my laptop; basically, there
are items or areas in these particular games that appear completely
black, seemingly untextured.

This has appeared in Republic Commando, Jade Empire, and a couple
of the Hitman's. For example, in Jade Empire it's some of the railings
on the quay of the first town you come to. In Hitman SA it's the lower half
of the jacket of the FSB agents and so on. Can somebody please suggest what
might be causing these problems and how they might be fixed? I'm a bit of an
obsessive, have to have everything perfect and this drives me absolutely nuts!
Cheers

I'm pretty sure that my NVidia drivers are up to date. All of these games actually run very smoothly at high medium settings, so I don't think that's it.

That happened to me in Mass Effect on Therum. Some of the ground and all of the lava was black. So it was a trial and error to get by without hitting the lava, since it was black and the lighting was low...

So it might be an issue with the games themselves, try reinstall/patching and reinstalling (different than updating) drivers.

I know in Dragon Age, black textures are a sign of insufficient memory to handle the textures, but I don't know about other games to be honest, it could be anything really.

A lot of people had that problem in Mass Effect and there were a couple of solutions but I seem to be the only one with these issues. I don't suppose you could give me any instructions regarding driver reinstallation, I'm a bit of a technical dunce and I'm afraid to screw up the drivers.

I updated my NVidia drivers and still have this problem. Does anyone know, must I first uninstall the driver and then install the new one or can I directly install the new driver?
According to the NVidia site you can install it over the top but I just wanted to be sure.

I can't think of anything else to possibly check now.
