Stefan was one of the last people to open his box. He had stared at it a little longer than he intended, but he too needed to find out what he had. Compared to some people here, he figured his gear wouldn't be too impressive. The first sight that greeted him was a ballistic kevlar vest. The same one he had used in the force, it seemed. There was a bit more bulk to the stuffed box than he was used to. He gingerly pulled out the vest, putting it aside as he went for his handgun. The gun was heavily modified and had strayed far from any original design, in this day and age, information and staying ontop might as well be a quick way to victory and even cops had to modify their weapons to not fall behind. The gun came with a holster too.

The gun had a silvery sheen to it and the clip looked a little longer than it should be. If he remembered correctly it fit 12 rounds. While the gun could handle many various sorts of ammunation his personal favourite were heavy discharge rounds. The bullets were there too, a light blue metallic hue to them. These rounds were designed to flaten more easily, they didn't pierce armor as good, but once they hit, they stuck in a victim's body, releasing a powerful burst of electricity. He put the handgun aside ontop of the kevlar vest, taking up a baton.

It was considerably larger than the shock baton's the guards on the bus used. But it seemed to serve the same function, albeit it looked quite a bit more dangerous because of it's size. He took a moment to switch it on, causing electricity to crackle across it's length, bar for the grip that is. He seemed content that it was working, putting it aside again after switching it off. Stefan took all the bullet boxes out of the box, putting them ontop of the kevlar. There was one with an ammunation type he didn't recognize. Huge metal rounds, they had a dull gunmetal grey hue and looks like grenades you might put in a grenade launcher.

He took out a small device, along with the wrist communicator Mantis had spoken off earlier. The device he was fully familiar with, it was a kinetic barrier though this model was considerably updated compared to the older one Almberg had used. The device could activate a shield against high speed projectiles, though offered no protection towards anything that didn't move at least as fast as a bullet.

Amongst a rebreather mask and several different kinds of grenades, all which he put aside neatly, he found something he hadn't expected. He tugged it out of the box, revealing an absurd crossbowlike weapon. Only it looked high tech and didn't appear to fire bolts. The weapon had a grey metallic colour to it, with blue glowing indicator fields, measuring heat levels it seems. He quickly realized what the large metal rounds had been for. This was a railgun. He recognized it because roughly 3 months ago, he had his eye out for this military grade weapon.

The weapon had been presented to him at a convention for law and military enforcement, they called it a tank crew killer. Mostly because the high velocity and impact of the slug could rip right into the hull of a tank. The slugs could even be modified to explode after a delayed time. It was a destructive weapon. It had a major downside though, to generate the railgun effect, mass levels of heat were created. The gun needed to cooldown after each shot. This weapon could only fire a shot roughly every 12-20 seconds by his estimate. Precious seconds that could get you killed. If you kept firing after that, it could take up to a minute for the gun to cooldown. He realized it had lockdown procedures in place, as to prevent it from breaking too. He felt a really uncomfortable with the levels of havoc it would cause if it hit a human. It wasn't quite his style, but he'd probably need it.

"I'm impressed, Mantis. How did your superiours even manage to get this stuff? I mean, to recover my gear is one thing. To get me this...lovely thing is another. Thank.. your superiours from me, eh."

Long post, damn it. It'll have to do for now. Will follow up with another one soonish. Decided not to make it any longer than this for now.

Jacob listened to the other people asking their questions and making demands. As he had said to Oliver before all he wanted was his armor back. There was no reason not to trust this man he had saved their lives. Still Jacob was a bit suspicious, but seeing Oliver agree made him certain that joining was the best thing to to.

Mantis pointed over to the boxes on the wall with each person's individual names on them.
"In those, you will find all the equipment you were using prior to arrest. I also left a wrist communicator in them so we can stay in contact. For those of you with augments, just remove the chips in them and integrate into your hardware"
Jacob looked at the boxes then back to Mantis as he called himself. Jacob had to revise his previous assessment whoever this man was or who he was working for he was very dangerous. Still this could work in their benefit seeing as how they were working together right now. Jacob began to walk over to the boxes, he opened his box to find his armor and all of his weapons and ammo. He grinned as he grabbed his special black rounds, he felt sorry for whoever was going up against him next. He smiled brightly as he grabbed his armor, he then grabbed his weapons they all seemed to be in an excellent state. They were also as heavy as ever seeing how Jacob had them modified quite often which resulted in allot of extra weight. Still this had saved his life on time when an hostile had tried to grab his assault rifle only to find out that he couldn't lift it. He also grabbed the wrist communicator, he wasn't about to give Mantis access to his private com link to Oliver.

"Bedrooms are on this floor. The showers are down below. This place will serve as your base. At least until we "commondeer" something more impressive" Jacob walked over to the door. He walked to the showers first, he wanted to clean himself and took an good look at his thumbs. His cloches were filthy too so he grabbed some new clean ones and after the shower he put those one. They fitted him good quite, Jacob then put on his armor closing the mask. The mask was calibrating for a moment to see if Jacob or someone else was wearing the suit. But after 5 seconds the suit accepted him and it went back to Jacobs settings. Jacob used his suit to keep his thumbs in place, giving him perfect control of them again. He also wore the wrist communicator, as he sent an encrypted out to all of his contacts in France. The message would hopefully be answered by most of them. Most of his contacts were smugglers, hit mans and weapons dealers. He could really use their help right now. Jacob also armed himself with all of his guns as he walked up the stairs back to Mantis. Oliver had entered a few seconds before Jacob.

"I'll play along for now, it'll be interesting to see who is checkmated first" Jacob took a few steps forward looking at Mantis. "I will also join this fight you are having with Sebastian, for the moment at least." He wasn't about to swear his loyalty to this man who didn't even show his face, and next to that he would follow Oliver. And if Oliver said that he would play along for a while, he knew that they would probably step out at some point.

"Bedrooms are on this floor. The showers are down below. This place will serve as your base. At least until we "commondeer" something more impressive"

Byron put everything back in the box and headed down the corridor behind the others. He took picked a room, left his box there and headed to the showers. The water was hot. It felt like ages since he last had a shower. After the shower he threw his sewage stained clothes and put them in a bin nearby, walking back to his room with his towel wrapped around his waist.

Byron opened the wardrobe. It had everything, from tracksuit bottoms to jeans and from polo shirts to denim jackets. Byron picked up a black suit with a white shirt, black silk tie and black loafers. Underneath his shirt he equipped the Kevlar Bulletproof Vest as well as holsters where he stashed his weapons and sword. After making sure that they fit properly he took them off and placed them neatly on a nearby chair.

He just realized how exhausted he was. He picked a pair of boxer shorts from the wardrobe and tucked himself to bed. He fell asleep.

"Bedrooms are on this floor. The showers are down below. This place will serve as your base. At least until we "commondeer" something more impressive." Upon the moment that Mantis had finished speaking, a section of wall next to the boxes had disappeared, revealing a hallway that had lead into a common room, a place where the group could relax until something a little more impressive could be found.

"True, but I don't fancy being a pawn, plus once the king goes down it's game over, that would make Black the opposing king. Suits him really." Oliver replied, keeping the chess theme going.

"Indeed it does, guess that means we'll be playing the part of the White pieces, which involves us making the first move; as per the rules of the game." Caspian remarked, which upon he took his box, and went down the corridor, heading towards the bedrooms. He picked a series of clothes, similar to what he wore at the moment but looked a little more well made, and after placing his box on one of the beds, went down to the shower room to get washed and changed.

Caspian soon came out of the shower all washed, dried and changed. He had also shaven since he noticed some stubble growing on his chin. After making sure everything was in order, he discard his old clothes, remembering to keep ahold of the coat, and went off in search of the others.

"The process of doing all this had so many steps I'll barely remember half of it as I go along. Though, your appreciation for all my hard work is admirable."

"I'll play along for now, it'll be interesting to see who is checkmated first"

"I will also join this fight you are having with Sebastian, for the moment at least."

"And I'm glad to have to on the team. For however long you decide to stay on anyway. But now that that's out of the way..."

Mantis held down two keys, which switched on the intercom system.

"Attention all house mates. Our work is going to be starting very soon, so try to get some rest. I'll be contacting all of you the second we're ready to play"

Calvin finished his chocolate and looked back in the fridge. Taking out the first things he saw, he piled them on the counter beside the stove and waited for Edmond to finish cooking. He spoke to him.
"Seeing we've now met our mysterious saviour, what do you think of him? Think he's trustworthy?"

The man did save us, but that isn't any reason to assume he has our best interests at heart, Calvin thought, we still don't know why he wants Black gone, he could have something even worse in store for the country. I should find out the general opinion, see if anyone else has any misgivings.

Stefan was content, but his body still ached. He made his way through the hallway, going to the second bedroom on the right, since the first seemed crowded. He placed his stuff on a free bed, leaving it there for now, as he pulled off his filthy, soaked shirt. Finding the nearest bin, he decided to throw it in. He wouldn't need that anymore. The first thing he did after that was to wash his arms and hands from the grime that had gathered there. Once he felt they were sufficiently clean, Almberg began searching through the wardrobe thoroughly. Eager to find some good clothing.

Eventually with quite a bit of effort, he managed to find a pair of khaki pants along with a white button up shirt, folding them neatly, he made his way to the showers. He realized he needed rest though and he made the shower a quick one. Which was a shame, because long showers was something Stefan actually enjoyed. Drying off and slipping into his new clothing, Almberg felt pretty damn refreshed. He stood in front of a mirror for a while. His hair was clean again, but he still had stubble, and quite a bit of it. Grabbing a disposable razor from the side of a bathroom sink along with shaving foam, he got to work. Eventually, he really looked like his old self. Which, he had to admit looked too damn orderly to be criminal. They had been right, he really did look like a cop. At least, now he did more than ever. He dumped the razor and the old suit pants into a bin.

He was hungry. He hadn't realized that before, but it hadn't been a primary concern. Now it struck him that he hadn't had anything to eat or drink since he first got convicted. That had to be at least a day ago. He went for the kitchen, striding through the hallways. He felt good, at least in spirit. And he'd be damned if he let a growling stomach or aching body ruin that for him. He walked in on Calvin and Mustakraken. It appeared there was a line.

"So.. Every man cooking for himself?"

He smirked, deciding to pillage the fridge as well, looking for something good to eat or drink. Back in the days, Stefan never had much time to cook and always had the honour of enjoying the meals someone else made for him, wether it was at the office or at home with his family. He mused that if he was left to his own devices, he'd probably never sample good food again. That was an amusing thought as much as it was worrying.

Eventually his eyes caught a chilled bottle of plain mineral water, he reached for it, slipping past Calvin with his arm, at least he wasn't all that huge, so it wasn't too much of a fuss. Tugging the bottle out, he opened it and began chugging it down. Damn, he was thirsty. He'd have to wait with the food until the line cleared it seemed.

"Seeing we've now met our mysterious savior, what do you think of him? Think he's trustworthy?"

"Trustworthy or not, he is not the one we should be concerned with. He is just the voice of a force we are unaware of."

Looking down at his concoction of peaches, beans, and soup Edmond pondered the possibility of Mantis being another criminal who was forced into his position to escape his own downfall.

"I am concerned with how everyone here will get along, and what has become of the other criminals who were presumably freed. Care for canned medley?"

Estimating the pot was finished, the doctor poured himself a bowl and guessed there was enough for 5 more servings. It's been too long since hes had a satisfied stomach so without much hesitation on the quality of the meal, he dug in, one heavy spoonful after another.

"I am concerned with how everyone here will get along, and what has become of the other criminals who were presumably freed. Care for canned medley?"

"Who is he the voice of though? That's what I'm concerned about. As for the others, maybe they were recaptured. Or they might be in a similar situation to us. This facility may not be the only one of its kind.
He looked around to see if anyone else had come in. The only other person there was Almberg. Everyone here seems to be getting on alright though. At least they haven't begun active hostilities.
And as for the offer of medley I was going to make these... tofu steaks that I got out of the fridge but having seen what they are, that's not happening. Thanks, I think I will have some of that."

He put the other things back in the fridge and spooned himself some of Mustakraken's concoction. While not something he'd order out of choice, it wasn't that bad, and it was handy that he wouldn't have to cook for himself tonight. After finishing he washed the bowl and put it back in the cupboard.

"Thank you again Doctor. Now I'm exhausted so I'm gonna go get some sleep. I have a feeling I won't want to go into... whatever it is we're going to be doing, tired."
Returning to the bedroom, he placed the box containing his equipment under the bed and crawled under the covers. Thoughts about the current situation, and the future to come entered his head. He quickly banished them. Right now he needed sleep. He emptied his mind and put his head on the pillow, drifting off shortly thereafter.

Stefan decided to take up on the Doctor's offer as well. Would be a shame to waste food after all. Finishing his bottle of mineral water, he helped himself to a serving. There was really nothing graceful about the way he forced the food down. He mumbled a thanks with appreciation to Edmond before he began though, not quite entirely forgetting his manners.

"We might be unaware still. But maybe things will reveal themselves in due time. For now, we have to work with what we got. And they did just arm us proper."

The food did not last very long but it would have to do for now. He stretched briefly, managing a yawn. He'd have to get as much rest as he could, but at the same time, he really wanted to look over his gear more properly. He decided to settle for sleep. He cleaned up after himself swiftly.

"Best food I've had in 2 months, doctor. Thank you."

Nodding politely at Edmond, Almberg also went for his bed, putting the railgun against the wall with some effort and the rest of his things under the bed for now. Sitting down at the edge of the bed, he toyed with the kinetic barrier device for a bit. Eventually giving up and putting it down as well. Stefan's sleep came quickly afterwards. It was surprisingly dreamless.

Enjoying his first self made meal in quite awhile, the fellow gentlemen in the kitchen also took a fancy to a bowl of sustenance. Acknowledging each ones thanks for meals consumed with a nod, Edmond believed now was a good as time as any to partake in a nice rinse. Perusing through a closet to find a suitable outfit, a decent teal long sleeve shirt to go under his dark green lab coat and a pair of brown slacks. Along with a pair of tennis shoes he finished his wardrobe with a black flat cap and scarf. After his hour long shower to ensure he was sanitized, the doctor returned to his make shift med bay in the common area, finding himself lacking the capacity to sleep he started going through his toxins and chemicals pondering more possible uses for future endeavors. Sleep wanted to creep over him the longer he resisted like a soft hand slowly migrating from the top of his head over his hazy eyes, but assuming he would be needed by a fellow escapee, he would persevere till he was the last not consumed by exhaustion.

[HEADING=2]Chapter 2: Strong Hold[/HEADING]

April 12, 2204. 7:09am. Mantis HQ

The wrist communicators worn by everyone blared loudly to alert those in the base it was time to go into action. A text message flashed across the screen, telling them of the day's activities.

Good morning everyone. I do believe now is a good time to get down to business. There are a few priorities I need your help in handling before I can let all of you galavant about top side. There are a few things going on at the same time, so you will be split up. Who you will be working with is up to all of you.

-click to continue-

1) At the same time Calcifer was transported to France, so were the weapons he intended on selling. I find it odd that they didnt just lock them in storage. Someone needs to follow the shipment and see where they are going.

-click to continue-

2) A captain in the militia was seen entering a building with more guards than usual, and in position of a very high end computing device. I'd like to get my hands on it and see what's inside.

-click to continue-

3)Remember that captain I told you about? Well, before he went into that building, he was talking to one, Brain Duran; a very discrete drug supplier in his neck of the woods. This looks like a job for some good old fashioned interrogation.

-click to continue-

Decide what best suits your skills, and send a number back to me. Then I'll have you all sent off into the unknown. See you all soon.

Stefan groggily rubbed his eyes, trying to get the sleep out as the communicator woke him up. It took him a short while to reassert himself as he sat up on his bed, but eventually he began reading the messages. He pondered on what task would suit him best. He excluded task three almost immediately, he doubted the interrogation would play out like he was used to. It didn't really suit him. Task one seemed like a stake out, potentially recovery mission. He rubbed his neck, task two seemed most appropriate but also rather dangerous. With some hesitation, he wrote a number into the communicator.

"2"

That would have to do. He realized that he had fallen asleep in his clothing, but he didn't seem to care, heaving himself out of bed, he went for the kitchen, opening the fridge and taking out another bottle of mineral water.

"Hmmk?"
The beeping of the communicator jerked Calvin out of his sleep. Looking at the screen, he tried to come up with a decision. Task 3 wasn't really his sort of thing, interrogation was something he just wasn't good at. Task 1 would involve staying at a distance, which was how he preferred his targets, but going out on the roads seemed like a good way to get reacquainted with the cops. That left task 2, which would require the need to be stealthy, and to get in and out undetected, which he wasn't too bad at. He shrugged and keyed in "2" on the keypad.

He donned his clothes and headed into the kitchen. Almberg was there, drinking a bottle of water. Calvin got another bottle out of the fridge. Between gulps, he asked Almberg,
"Which one did you pick?"

He finished his bottle, nodding politely at Calvin.

"Good morning. I picked task two. I'm not that bad at sneaking and I'll be ready if things don't go our way. Though it really seemed like the only task to go for in the end. My idea of an interrogation involves different methods than that of... Well, that which will be needed. The other task seems like a stake out to me. I think I'd rather leave it to some of our more well sighted fellows or those who use scoped weapons, they seem ideal to me."

Almberg yawned lightly, throwing the empty bottle into a bin.

He checked the cabinets for bread, eventually finding where they stashed it and opening a pack. He pulled two slices out, the rest of it he left on the counter, figuring others might want some too. It appeared to be plain white bread. Probably quite bland if anything, but he doubted he had time to prepare anything fancy, well, that and he was a shit cook. He ate them quickly, ever self concious about his appearance, Stefan seemed to straighten out his clothing a bit after his makeshift breakfast.

Awaking from a sleep Edmond was unaware that he took, the communicator given to them was flashing and barking instructions for assignments that were being provided. Collecting himself and ensuring he was focused the Doctor responded with "3" then returned to rest on his bed not completely forgoing the possibility of more sleep.

Jacob and Oliver left the room together. The had both grabbed some food and talked for a while before going to bed. Jacob had tested out his gun to see if they still worked. They worked quite fine and so did his armor. He always awoke at 5 o clock sharp, so he had already had plenty of time to train. Before having an conversation with Oliver.

They were discussing all kinds of things when he saw the message. He looked at the option and grinned. "My new job allows me to 'interrogate' hostile people great." he pressed the 3 button, Jacob smiled as he looked at Oliver. "How about I hurt him physically and you hurt him mentally? We could break him within a few minutes."

Oliver was surprised how well he had slept that night, being in a strange place, hounded by cops and sleeping in a room full of strangers. He woke up that morning feeling refreshed, he had slept like a log that night, maybe the exhaustion that had accumulated over the past few days had finally caught up with him? He dressed in a similar suit he had worn the night before, but with a different tie, this time a plain red silk one.

A list of tasks had popped up, no doubt coming from the communicator he had integrated into his arm after he found there was no malicious software in it. He decided he would wait and see what Jacob had chosen before he made his mind up.

Oliver met up with Jacob on his way to the kitchen, where he made some fresh coffee and some toast. Jacob told him he would go for three, the interrogation.

"I suppose that would work," He nodded, "I guess whoever they are would crack if we teamed up, I'll go for three as well"

"I picked that one too. I'm crap at interrogation, any time I did it before I always went too far and the victim was in no fit state to tell me anything. I thought about task 1 because like you said, it seems like a primarily long range one, but I'm not sure I'm ready to go out on the roads for long periods again just yet. I figured task 2 wouldn't be too bad because I know how to get in and out of a building undetected, and since I've got a long range weapon I'll be able to see any trouble from the outside coming from a long way off. Do you know anything about computers?"

Stefan shifted and grimaced a little, uncomfortable with the subject of horrible interrogations. He knew what some criminals had done to his fellow enforcers, it wasn't pretty. He could count himself lucky never to have gotten such a fate himself.

"My... interrogations had a tendency to involve evidence, talk and accusations. We were not legally allowed to assault criminals in our custody, of course. Still, I know a bit about computers, I suppose. Though I don't doubt there's someone with more tech savvy than me around. We'll do with what we can get, I suppose. I'd love to have someone to watch my back, though once we see what we're dealing with we should assign roles, not just yet. I'm pretty sure I'll be where it's the most dangerous though. I'm not good with long ranged weapons and my eyes are fairly ordinary compared to some people here."
