Sadly the best game on the N64 was one that hardly anyone played.

I urge anyone interested to get the Project64 emulator and a 'Rocket: Robot on Wheels' rom.

Outstanding game.

As a huge Killer Instinct fan, I'd have to say I found the SNES version far superior, except for the obvious graphics, better controls and a smoother game.

However, Blast Corps is what got me wanting to own the damn console, just the sheer pleasure in a game where the entire game is based around smashing things.

If you don't know it, you work for a demolition company, and a truck has gone haywire, carrying a nuke, you need to clear the path in front of it so it has nothing to crash into, this involves levelling whole towns with your bulldozer or other wrecking vehicle.

Just stupidly fun stuff from the real glory days of Rare (tho I might argue the second coming of Rare as I remember them for their ZX Spectrum/C64 games like Sabrewulf.

I found a N64 at a car boot sale, in an offical N64 carrycase, and it came with the expansion pack, 3 controllers and Mario 64 and goldeneye and a couple of other games, for a lousy £20.

I figured even if the console didn't work, I could probably ebay Goldeneye and Mario for that much, but as it was, it all worked fine. Bargain!

Oh my christ I had totally forgot about Star Wars Podracing. So many competitions against my father in that game.
Same here. Some of the best memories I have with my dad are when we were playing Podracer.

OgrBattle 64 and Mario Party 3.
Ogre Battle!!! I totally forgot about that game. Loved it. And all the Mario Partys were pretty good with friends. Played those a lot.

Another good one I liked that no one else did was Battle Tanx. I thought that was a great multiplayer game.

EDIT: Maybe not great, but good. Definitely good.

i had Blast corps, much fun was had, my favourite thing was about the dumpster, with "the reinforced back end" so you had to powerslide into the building to demo them

Mario Kart 64 was one of my favorites and Goldeneye saw a lot of use. My brother and I also had fun playing Jet Force Gemini. I mean you could play as a dog with a gun attached to it's back, what more could you want?

Oh gawd, I was struggling to remember the vehicles except for the bulldozer and the lil buggy that lobs grenades, now I remember the dumpster and the horrors of trying to handbrake turn into the weak spot of a building to level it, and the joy of the giant robot that you just mario butt stomped things into the ground with.

Killer instinct Gold, the one fighter you truely cant win by button mashing.
Yes, you play killer instinct against anyone who even just knows the basics and you'll lose, no way just hammering buttons is going to get you anything but a 48 hit combo to the happy sack!

Its sort of a shame it never progressed, there's always been faint rumours a KI3 might show one day, but I'm not holding my breath, although I'd love it.

Also was quite annoying that people thought you COULD button mash out the huge combos, when in fact it had a fairly basic yet deep system of controls like SF2 (ok not LIKE SF2 but basic and yet deep.)

I know it was released on the ps1 and 2, but I really enjoyed Rayman 2. And of course all the old classics. Surprised theres no mentions of the last really fun Rare game, Conkers Bad Fur Day in this thread so far.

LOL was it called the cyclone? I remember the one armed robot that would dragon punch a building!, and the sommersulting one.

My fav was the dumpster truck and the fast little buggy car with the turbo for jumping onto buildings, the minute you managed to get the buggy airborn anything under it would die.

Getting it airborn was fucking hard, but once you did it it was game over for those buildings. AND THE EXPLOSIONS WAS THE NUTS! , blue fire? it had blue fire!!

Ah yeah, Battle Tanx was great - coop with my sister, she loved the mototank lol. Oh, and then you get the special weapon cheat and deploy a field of gun turrets of all shapes and sizes with one button combo! good times...

Super Smash Bros was AWESOME, though I do prefer the extra complexity in Brawl. So much exam time wasted then, lol :D

LoZ OoT was the first game I completed, and had such an impact on me as a child. Epic experience, but now it seems all so easy (except for that damn water temple...)

Would have like to complete Get Force Gemini, but having to find all those damn bears was far too boring - even with a guide :(

Damn, imagine soon.. a lot of people's first console will be the Wii, already happening with my nieces and nephews.

Anyways, Harvest Moon 64 was my big 64 game, never thought I would of been into such a game. I remember reading about it in a Nintendo Power section and just couldn't wait to play. Shame I could only find 1 video store that actually had it, they only had 1 copy and it was usually rented out. Also it was nowhere to be found at any game retailers, the one time I did see it was at toys r' us for 109.99Ca, serious wtf moment for a N64 game.

Picked up a boxed copy for my collection couple years back, I can now breath again ^^

Hell I had an Atari Jaguar and every good game ever released for it, by which I mean I had Tempest 2000.

Jeff Minter's Tempest 2000 so deserves an XBox Live Arcade release!

Or even better a huge pack of Minter-y goodness, with updated versions of Llamatron, Tempest 2000, ...of the Mutant Camels and more!

Super Mario 64
It brought 3D gaming to my 2D SNES based world (and it was a lot of fun).

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
I still have the original Nintendo 64 box I bought the game in. It was the best Zelda I've ever played and revolutionized the 'genre'.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
This one wasn't nearly as popular but I had a good bit of fun with it. Had a lot of fun with the entire mask system and whatnot.

Super Smash Brothers
The first game in the series. Had fewer characters than it's sequels and played a bit different, but was still a lot of fun for the length of time at which I played it.

Those were perhaps my four favorite Nintendo 64 games.
I cannot immediately bring anything else notable to mind except perhaps Kirby 64, but it wasn't exactly what I was looking for. At least not since Kirby Superstar.
