N64 had probably the highest "shitty-to-good" ratio of games, but the good ones made it worth it.

-Starfox 64
-F-Zero X
-SSB
-Killer Instinct Gold
-Goldeneye // Perfect Dark (you can't deny it's the same engine just improved a bit, so I loved it all the same)
-OoT obviously
-Mario Kart 64 obviously
-Mario Tennis I really liked...

but it also had travesties like Excitebike 64 and Armorines.

Yeah, now that I've started talking about it, I don't think I'm going to be playing any other system for a while. I've been playing Goldeneye all morning and my friend just came by so we're not stepping away from the screen for a good while.

Another game I loved for the 64 was Command & Conquer 64. Loved it.

Perfect Dark - Personally, I liked this shooter better than Goldeneye. My friends and I spent way more time playing this than almost anything else.
You sir have preached the truth. The Summer of 2000 was pretty much playing Perfect Dark or playing Dreamcast. Love Perfect Dark and I hope Rare who already made Goldeneye for XBLA will be smart and make PD for XBLA with Online Multiplayer and all of its features from the N64 version including the sims...I miss KamikazeSim and Darksim!

Anyway to respond to the post-

Perfect Dark
Super Mario 64
WCW/NWO World Tour and Revenge
WWF Wrestlemania 2000 and No Mercy
Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Mario Kart 64
Goldeneye
Waverace 64
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire

Thanks for making me remember some good memories from the last 12 years. N64 was an awesome system.

I'm going to list something a little more obscure, a game that provided me and my friends with countless hours of entertainment. Hot Wheels Turbo Racing :D

1.Super Mario 64
2.The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time
3.Conker's Bad Fur Day
4.Banjo-Kazooie
5.The Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask
6.Wave Race 64
7.Ogre Battle 64
8.Star Fox 64
9.Pilot Wings 64
10.Tetrasphere
Nice list, though I thought B-K was a bit on the derivative side. Also: "Tetrisphere."

(you can't deny it's the same engine just improved a bit, so I loved it all the same)
I can deny it. Sure, it had bots and some extra modes, but the graphics were grainy, it required the expansion pak, some of the guns detracted from the gameplay, and the whole design felt less inspired,

Killer instinct Gold, the one fighter you truely cant win by button mashing.
Yes, you play killer instinct against anyone who even just knows the basics and you'll lose, no way just hammering buttons is going to get you anything but a 48 hit combo to the happy sack!

Its sort of a shame it never progressed, there's always been faint rumours a KI3 might show one day, but I'm not holding my breath, although I'd love it.

Also was quite annoying that people thought you COULD button mash out the huge combos, when in fact it had a fairly basic yet deep system of controls like SF2 (ok not LIKE SF2 but basic and yet deep.)
I loved that game, when you think your in the groove putting on the hurt on your friends and the game says "C-C-C-Combo BREAKER!", the game is basically saying "FUCK YOU BUDDY!"

The momment you hear that first hard "C" your heart sinks.

Also its possible to do 80 hit combo's, it wasn't in the design, but almost all characters can do it. In KI2 the counter stopped at 99 hits, but you could juggle oppenents forever. You can only do it if you use manual combo linkers, not autodoubles.

Goldeneye
Super Smash Brothers
Banjo Kazooie
Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Conkers Bad Fur Day
Mario Kart 64
Perfect Dark
Zelda: Majora's Mask
F-Zero X
Banjo Tooie

Would probably make up my list. I've noticed as I was writing them they're all Rare or Nintendo games... so much for other developers.

Hybrid Heaven.

That's right, the only game where you play a guy who battles shapeshifting alien kung-fu
spies with the power of suplexes and piledrivers.

All done with an RPG-esque combat system.

Well for me it was pretty much everything mentioned so far + Yoshi's Story, fine it's not as good as the SNES equivalent. BUT it was fucking sweet. Awesome graphics too.

Goldeneye. First 64 game I ever owned. Nothing like playing through the entire game on Agent, then coming back years later, an experienced FPS man, and skipping to play it on 00 Agent! Playing Unlimited kills (translation, end at 100 kills) on Stack/Library with Power Weapons or Proximity Mines. I was always the Arctic Commando, then moved on to Civilian #3. RCP-90s and Assault Rifles abound.

Legend of Zelda, OoT. Took me several years to beat that game - was forced to buy it instead of Perfect Dark. Eventually my mind matured enough to find the Shadow Temple and the Spirit Temple (my older brother had done the Water Temple for me, it would take a replay for me to discover the horror) and I did trump them. Ganondorf was tough but so great to win!

Starfox64 or Lylat Wars as well call it. Incredible fun - I still play it today! The medals on Zonness, Aquas and Titania continue to allude me. I will get them someday!

Legend of Zelda, Majora's Mask. In my opinion, the best Zelda game ever. It was so dark and perfected compared to OoT, which was epic but felt empty much of the time. Beating all of the bosses with Chateau Milk and then stepping up to Majora was incredible. Shame he was so easy.

Pokémon Stadium and Mario Party 2, two games with minigames that we still play today. Clefairy Says, Magikarp Splash, Lickitung and his sushi... Brilliant. In Mario Party, we aren't fans of the actual main gametype but playing the minigames with 4 people is great fun. Favourite games are Hexagon Heat and Honeycomb Havoc... Shock Drop 'n' Roll is great too!

MarioKart64 was incredible. Playing as Yoshi and trumping all of your friends on Rainbow Road is on of the best feelings ever...

...I gotta dust off my Ninty!
