I don't live near a lake and we don't get a lot of snow because of it. It helps that our school system is not hard core and if they can't make it to school you can't either. I'd hate to live in a place where there is no snow

and blue skies is something that never gets boring, even with the heat and moisture around...

the only time I held a snowball in the last 15 years wasnt two years ago at poland, and I dont miss the freezing coldness nor the "ugly" white fields around there at all...
