You clearly haven't played BlazBlue then. The game's story mode is basically a full fledged game in itself.
Of course I haven't, I'm not allowed to because I'm not good at them. I can't learn the gameplay or the technical stuff cause learning it is some kind of taboo since I haven't played them in the 90s in arcades and stuff.
You might not be able to play competetively, but you can certainly play the game.

BlazBlue has an extensive tutorial and lots of ways to practice. It's got a 20-hour long story mode to get a feel for all of the characters. There's even plenty of beginner rooms if you want to play online.

As long as you aren't trying to join tournaments or anything, I can't imagine people not allowing you to play.

SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY

But seriously, another game where I get to play as Hazama. Fuck yes.

And the new characters look amazing, as expected of a BlazBlue title. I haven't been this giddy about a game release in a while.

Edit: No Lambda or Mu? Well that seems a bit depressing. I hope they're still in the game

Sounds like you got offended by someone. Why you gotta take it out on the rest of the FGC? There's nothing we enjoy more than having new people become a part of the community, but we hate it when they act like conceited brats and complain about everything. I guess it sort of is a sacred land but you're acting like companies patch in new games regularly. It's like telling Activision to "patch" MW2 into COD4, it doesn't make any sense to the companies and it doesn't draw in newer players. Heck sometimes it isn't even a good deal.
I doubt it, I decided to get KoF13 last year, had some issues with the tutorial. Decided to go to SRK and see if I could get some help in learning how to peform this problem(don't remember, had cancel in its name). All I was met with was being called "scrub" told to go back to Smash and even a mod joined in(I looked for it but it seems to have been deleted). I said screw it its just the FGC being the FGC. I practiced a bit in practice mode, played the campain for a few days, decided to go online. Got curbstomped then a message from my opponent saying I should have my hands broken because I suck so much.

Went NOPE then traded it in at GS. Hell as much as a SMT fan I am and I consider P4 as the ultimate example of character development in fiction I'm not gonna get the upcoming fighter.

The Blazblue community is actually pretty friendly, from my experience. I started to play the first game a few months before Continuum Shift's release and people were more than happy to help me out with understanding combo notation, basic combos, etc. Once CS came out there were plenty of people willing to help others out with understanding the big changes to their characters or learning the new characters. Hell, even without others helping you the game has a ridiculously in-depth tutorial and challenge mission that teaches you how to do all of their moves, basic, intermediate, and advanced combos.

Just try not to go into it with such a negative attitude.

I'm sorry that happened to you, but a bad day on SRK and online doesn't really indicate much. Especially the online part, if that's the worst you've experienced then you've had it easy. It's got nothing to do with the FGC in particular it's the scrubby online badmouthing trash that makes every community look bad. As for SRK? I have no idea of the nature of the conversation but I'd have loved to help you had I been there. I'm sad to hear that one of our biggest sites treated you poorly but you're the one letting it affect your enjoyment of the game and your view and treatment of others.

Also I can't even tell who that man is, I'm a scrubby 09er who played marvel 2 in an arcade maybe once in my life and never had the kind of group that would make me so defensive that I would try to turn away someone interested in my favorite genre.

I have one quick question for the fans.
I've heard the story of this game is good, but do I need to play the past versions to completely understand the story? or can I just get this one and understand everything?

I can't really say for this game since we don't know what it entails yet but.... the story is very complex and you will probably be hopelessly lost without playing the others. My suggestion: pick up the latest console release BlazBlue Continuum Shift: Extend. Has a condensed and more understandable version of the first game's story in it as well as the entirely of the 2nd game's story. No need to actually play the first game to get the story now.

Continuity, my boy. Hazama/Terumi effectively destroyed Lambda when Nu took her over and her body completely vanished when Ragna got the Idea Engine. Mu is...Noel, so unless she feels up to using those powers...no.

However, as noted in the other threead, Nu IS back.

Considering the fact that insulting others on that site seems to be the norm I don't think I'm the only one.

Fuck, GameFAQS is nicer.

Wrong video, I think you meant this one:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZZUMjoxfZA
Just about anything said in this video is a meme around the community, even outside of Marvel.

SRK is mainly about games from Capcom. Being the biggest site and try to present everyone but if you're looking for resources on something not from Capcom need to reach out to other parts of the community.

King of fighters 13 has a terrible tutorial. Watch this instead:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ye3KVgI1LvUs It focuses on KOF 98 but the fundamentals of the series have been changed. Your best resource for any thinking of fighters right now is Dream Cancel. Or read the wiki entry for any characters are interested in using. Personally, I would recommend Kyo, King and Mai for beginners and branch out from there.

For any game by our system works you should go to Dustloop. Performs a very well-written guides for BlazBlue, Guilty Gear in Persona 4 Arena. The wiki is particularly great interest hit boxes and frame data for every characters attack in addition to explaining their utility. It's one most organized resources for new players you'll find.

Edit: GameFAQs message form is an intellectual cesspit. I'm not sure if you're trolling or you're just that stupid.

Mainly exaggerating with Gamefaqs but I saw how DL was when I tried out GG(around the time BB was announced in JP) and it was just as bad as I kept experiencing.

This is getting embarrassing for me. I'm still way back on Calamity Trigger, and I don't even know which version of Continuum Shift to get.

It's seriously not as bad as you're making it out to be. Any competitive game... hell, any competitive activity is going to have a bit of that. That's why it's called "competition".

But you can play BlazBlue for it's story. Good single-player isn't unheard of in a genre that's normally multiplayer.

I will be the first to admit that I absolutely fucking suck at fighting games, and that hasn't stopped me from enjoying them.

Except for Super Smash Bros.

Your vitriol is unnecessary. There are elitist douchebags in every single fanbase, without exception, including your beloved Persona 4. Most people have self-esteem issues, and sadly the default means to make one feel better about oneself is to make others feel like shit.

The reason most fighting games are so complex - whether necessarily or because they feel like they have to be - is to give people a reason to keep coming back, not to make you feel insecure. It's a bummer that you didn't get the open arms and joyful reception you seem to have wanted, but it's equally unfortunate that you let the aforementioned douchebags dictate your enjoyment of something.

See I'm going, without getting both sides to the story, at least play devil's advocate here because I've seen the "n00b" queries go both ways. Mostly because the reaction that one gets is almost entirely dependent on what you ask and how you ask. I say this because I've yet to encounter a forum that restricts the ability of registered members to use its search function. So if someone comes in asking a very common question it indicates to the established community that this person didn't bother looking to see if others had had similar questions and decided that they where a special, unique snowflake deserving of everyone's attention and they will (deservedly) be treated accordingly (see also: mocked mercilessly). Similarly if the inquiry is phrased in such a way that the individual is essentially asking for the community to explain either incredibly basic game mechanics and/or really, really dumb the game down then they are likely to once again be met with hostility because such a question indicates a complete lack of research and is a waste of everyone else's time. If neither of these criteria where met then whatever happened was unfortunate and maybe you just caught people on a bad day.

You know what though?

If there is someone being a prick to someone else SMT related, they get called out on it and shunned. When the FGC does it, they get praised and revered.

I don't know about you but I'm not going to like a community that encourages bullying.

Get Extend so you can get a gist of what's going on. The story is very interesting and the characters incredibly well-developed. I'd argue it's one of the best game casts in a LONG time.

Anyway, very excited to hear this. I guess all that work on P4: A side tracked Mori's boys and now we can FINALLY get on with the story. All the newbies have interesting Drives according to Dustloop and the mechanics have gone through a BIG rehaul.

Also, Bullet has an INSANE Distortion Drive it goes:

720+A>720+D>1080+D (requires an extra 50% Heat). Yeah, 2520 degrees (SEVEN full rotations) to use the second followup. There go a LOT of joysticks.

Noel's never as been as flat as the game wants you to think she is.
You have to remember this anime-style where anything less than "Smuggling Cantaloupe" is considered "Flat as a Board".

Its mostly that her previous outfit didn't really emphasize her rack, and everyone in game seems to constantly call out the fact that she's apparently "flat", despite the fact that she's not.
I think it actually has more to do with her insecurity being the erm.. smallest of her friends and the fact that Anything smaller than "Boobie Lady" is Flat to Tao. (the one who seems to pick on her chest the most)
