BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma Hits The PS3 Next Year

The fighting game renaissance continues, with an official confirmation that BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma will reach North American shores.

Publisher Aksys Games issued an announcement this morning, declaring its intentions to release BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma for the PlayStation 3 at an as-yet-undetermined date sometime during 2014. The game, like its predecessors, is a gorgeously well animated 2D fighter akin to the Guilty Gear games or the more recent Persona 4 Arena (which makes sense given that all of these titles were developed by the same people).

Truth be told, the only really useful info Aksys issued today was the bit about Chrono Phantasma arriving in 2014 and the trailer you'll find embedded above. However, the announcement also offers a huge amount of overly emphatic marketing speak that contains brief snippets on what players can expect to find in Chrono Phantasma. Have a look:

A Whole New World - BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma outdoes itself as part of one of the best 2D fighting game series of all time! With new art and a seamless combination of 2D and 3D graphics, BlazBlue's vibrant, harrowing world comes to life on the PlayStation 3 entertainment system!

New Characters - Chrono Phantasma will introduce new characters, bringing the roster list to 26!

New Moves - All characters from the series have been redesigned with new moves. Watch all the action as they unleash powerful attacks never before seen on the BlazBlue stage! Re-master your old characters and tear your friends apart!

Modes for Everyone - With an amazing tutorial, gripping story and a variety of other modes, BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma offers hours of gameplay for everyone!

New characters, new stages, new attacks; So it's a fighting game sequel then? Good enough for me.

There's currently no pricing or solid release date info on BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma, but we'll bring you that info whenever Aksys serves it up.

Also, hopefully the company will, at some point, tell us if this game is exclusive to the PlayStation 3, or if that's simply its initial home. And if it is exclusive, why is no one making a bigger deal out of this? So many mysteries.

Inb4 EU release 2015 >.>

Anyway, as long as Mu-12 is still in the game i'm happy. Nice that it has sort of a release date at least. If it's a PS3 exclusive then that's when I have to finally buy a PS3, kind of a long time coming.

Soon... Soon I will unleash the fury that is buffed to the max Iron Tager.
It is nice to see that your main chiken has risen from bottom tier to at least mid. Since CT, I mean.

They have been way to quiet about the western localization and it's pretty annoying to be honest. Is there going to be a 360 release in the US? Logic would dictate yes, but they haven't mentioned it at all.

Go on the website, the only logo on the bottom of the page is Sony and PS3. So there won't be an Xbox version

It's been cross-platform up until now, so it would really shock me if they just dropped Xbox support on the last current-gen Blazblue title. They've been releasing them as PS3 exclusives in Japan all this time because no one in Japan owns a 360, but BB sells just as well on the 360 as it does the PS3 over here. They'd be effectively splitting their western audience in half.

I guess I'll just have to hold out hope that they aren't ready to announce the other platforms yet.
