Picking himself up off the ground gingerly, still feeling a throbbing ache from whatever Brad had given him, he managed to rise to his feet. Brushing himself off as best he could, his black robes were almost tan from the tumble he took, but he still managed to get most of it off. Several feet away from him though, his shikai was laying in the dirt. He wanted that back.
"Gleaming Silver Fang, REACH FOR ME!" Kage yelled out as he reached for his blade. The knife sized tanto stirred on the ground, though it was the cord that squirmed the most, flipping back and forth on the ground before rippling across the ground. It cracked like a whip and shot out towards Kages hand, extending and passing it by before wrapping several times around his forearm like a coiling snake. Once there, the cord began to shrink again, pulling the blade with it. The tanto lifted off the ground from the speed of its withdrawl and Kage caught it in midair.
"There you are. Don't worry, I'm not letting go of you again. First that hollow took you away, and then Ken. Never again, I promise." Kage said, looking at the dirty blade. The venom that creeped along the edge had attracted dirt to the blade. Careful not to scar or scratch the metal, he wiped it off on his leg until the blade shimmered in the artificial sunlight again.
"Good, I'll hold you to that, little boy. I don't like being in the dirt, I expect you to take better care of me than that. he heard Gleam say to him. This was another one of those times where he couldn't decide if she was poking fun at him or threatening his life. Either way, he didn't even so much as smirk at that comment just in case it was the latter.
"Right..." was all he said as he sheathed his shikai. The blade grew down into the hilt as the cord uncoiled from around his arm, retracting back into the hilt of his sword. Once that was done, he went over to join the rest.
"Now Kage, I expect that you dont go on a outburst again, at least, not on us." he heard Brad saying from over by Ken. Clearly he was laying down the law with the out of control squad 11 reaper who seemed to have reverted from his bankai state in all his inglory. Kage didn't give him the pleasure of even a second glance when he answered Brad.
"I won't. At least not until the next time I have to. No promises." Kage told him, making a point then and there. He didn't want to have to take anyone else out, but this shinigami was as much a threat to them as he was to the hollows, not to mention whatever else awaited them in Hueco Mundo. And if this was going to happen again as soon as they found that girl...
Everywhere else around them, the rest of the reapers were playing with dolls. Walking over to Urahara, he wanted to know why.
"So...why is everyone around here playing with dolls all of a sudden?" Kage asked, trying his hardest to be sincere without coming off as smug. Kisuke snickered behind his fan and reached behind his back, pulling out another doll and tossing it to Kage. He caught it in both hands and held it up by its arms.
"Right, I see it, but you didn't answer my question. What is this thing? What does it do?" Kage asked again. Urahara snapped his wrist and closed his fan, pointing it at Kage.
"Well I'm glad you asked! What you have there in your hands in a fancy little doll that I'll let you use free of charge this time only. Using these dolls you too can achieve bankai just like Brad and Ken is three days, that's right, just THREE DAYS!" Urahara told him in his best impression of a high pressure salesman, "Simply bind it to your zanpakuto and add reishi and presto, your sword spirit will come to life right before your very eyes. Yes, right before your very eyes, bypassing a great deal of what would normally be many years of painstaking and worthwhile training to achieve a power that will probably kill you the first time you use it."
Kage stood there and looked at him with a vacant stare. Dumbfounded at the way he presented the way the doll worked, he felt more than a little embarassed just to be in the same dimensional plane as him. Looking from him down at the doll though, he started to wrap his mind around it.
"So, I bind this thing to Gleam, and the doll acts as a conduit to manifest her...here. In physical form. Able to fully interact, speak, touch, anything...with us..." Kage said slowly as the gravity of such an action sunk in. Inside though, he could feel her tingling with excitement.
"Oh yes! Yes, Kage, my boy, let me come out in play. I so would like to show that dragon shinigami a thing or too, and if we find that human girl I'm sure her and I could have a lot of fun..., she said practically giddy with anticipation.
"Yeah, I don't think so." Kage told her as he tossed the doll back to Urahara, "Thanks, but no thanks. In my case, I think I'll just do it the old fashioned way. It seems...safer..." he said, looking off to the side. Urahara stuffed the doll back in his pocket and snapped his wrist, the fan flashing open as he held it in front of his mouth once more.
"Oh well, suit yourself." he said, watching Kage.
"Right, I'll do just that." he replied before walking away from him, finding a rock and taking a seat. Three days, he said, That means three days we'll be here while everyone else reaches bankai, and then we head to Hueco Mundo. If I don't come up with something in those three days...I'm going to become the liability in this group...
