A cat scratch from the other day has opened up and is bleeding a fair bit for no apparent reason on my right arm. Annoying but it did remind me that I used to be afraid of blood and inspired a thread.

So what is/was your typical reaction to seeing your own blood both in small and large quantities?

If I see a little blood, I'm annoyed at the most nowadays. Back when I was a kid though I used this as an excuse to beg my mother for candy. I've only seen a large quantity of my blood once and that was when I had a wooden spike go through my left foot. That was pretty terrifying and I feel a little light headed just remembering it.[footnote]The pain got much worse after it was pulled out without freezing the foot.[/footnote]

Your turn Escapist!

I don't like bleeding because it means that I'll get blood on stuff. My first reaction is to cover it up so I don't get the blood on my clothes/furniture.

Sometimes, like the one time I got cut with scissors, I didn't notice. I was walking around for about a half hour before realizing.

Luckily, that was at school, so I got blood all around the school, not the house.

I don't know if this is normal, but I have no problem with localised injury.

I watched my own toenails being removed (ingrown toenails), and I thought it was awesome.

But if I had watched someone else having their nails removed, I probably wouldn't stop squirming and saying "ew, ew, ew, ew, ew".

My response is normally "
Code:
Oh no. Blood. Eek. My body is hurt.
"
If it's bleeding more than expected and I'm not in pain I'll just go "Hah, cool. I've never bled this much before."

I don't have a relationship to blood in such a way. It doesn't scare me, it doesn't disgust me etc.
I'm just indifferent to it.

I do try to stop the bleeding and clean it up though.
Not that I bleed a lot normally.

Of course, if I were bleeding so much that I'd be in danger of bleeding to death I'd probably adopt a more "fuckfuckfuckwhatdoIdowhatdoIdo?!" attitude.
But if that was the case, I suppose I would already be at the "Aaaah! I'm in so much pain!" stage.

never had an excuse for seeing my own blood but..last time i saw a lot of it was when i went over the handlebars and slid along the road on my face lost a couple teeth and a fair chunk of skin.... then had to cycle to the dentist for an emergency root canal treatment...it was not a good day..

also gave me a bit of a phobia of dentists

Ick, when I had that done to me I just couldn't watch. I can't watch needles going into my skin either. I had my flu shot the other day and I'm perfectly fine if I can look the other way while they're doing it. If I watched, it would hurt more because I'd involuntarily twitch up. The blood never bothered me but watching it enter the skin...

In small amounts, I'm fine with my own blood. However, I'm not fine with large amounts, but that's mostly because seeing it reminds me of the pain and seeing it usually means I'm looking at a wound. The blood itself is fine, but the injury is really disturbing.

... Also, is it weird that I enjoy the taste of my own blood?

I hurt myself a lot. So my usual reaction to my own blood is "Oh. Huh. I'm bleeding again." And then I go off to do whatever first aid is necessary.

Yeah, I got stabbed in the back a few months ago, and my first reaction wasn't "oh crap I need to go to the emergency room or I'm going to die from blood-loss" it was "oh crap, I really liked that shirt."

Obviously in life-threatening situations, it would be different. And it would also depend on how you sustained the injury. What I said wasn't all-encompassing.

OP: Where you REALLY afraid of the blood? It was all just a ploy to get sweets wasn't it? WASN'T IT!?
I was actually mildly afraid at that time but I was a clever little bugger and always used it as an opportunity. It rarely worked. She was probably aware of it all along. Damn adults and being smarter than you when you were a kid!

Eh. I lick it all up so I don't make a mess. Although I've never bled a huge amount before...
I suppose the closest was when I took a fair bit of skin off my face, had to keep licking the blood away when it dripped down near my mouth...

Maybe a little odd, but what else am I going to do with blood?

I first sprinkle myself in glitter and then lick the blood gently, after it stops bleeding I go throw up and slap myself because noone likes a fat girl!

When I bleed it opens a portal to the netherworld from whence I consume the souls of the dammed to make myself more powerful.

you know what they say, That which does not kill me makes me stronger.
