I can understand them going after the multiplayer cheaters but why go after the single players too.

I would love to be able to mess around with my game I payed $60 for and replace the zergling sounds with murloc sound effects and things of that nature.

Does noone else really care about this stuff or what, because it is starting to really irritate me

There are already cheat codes in the singleplayer that Blizzard put in. People who hack it are just plain stupid. And by hacking, they mean Blizzard are banning people using an external programs to cheat.

People who are banned should get over it and learn their lesson.

Using modifications/hacks for SP shouldn't be treated that harsly if you ask me. That's plain nuts. If these programs ALSO offered MP hacks, ban those idiots but if not, leave them the fuck alone.
Blizzards side of the argument is that many of the trainers can work in multiplayer, however they are banning people who have never even played online in order to keep the integrity of the achievement system

This.

While it may be overkill to say the least.
For better or worse, they are just enforcing their restrictions on using third-party programs/modifications which enhance and/or change the gaming experience.

An example of how something as harmless as, to use OPs example, "replace the zergling sounds with murloc sound effects" can be used in a game-altering manner.

As you can still hear units that are within the fog of war, even if you cannot see them.
The ability to make a Ling sound like a Murloc, can be in turn, used to have [insert very dangerous unit people like to hide here] make a very loud and very obvious sound.

It's like having spiked models in counterstrike or some other FPS.

Harmless idea, use with malicious intent.

It's not, Blizzard made the software and have "rules" for the people using it. If you don't follow the rules, you don't get to play. If you don't like it, you'll just have to find some other game to play with. Maybe if people stop playing it and find another game that is open to this kind of stuff, Blizzard will take the hint and ease up a bit?

Or you could always write some angry letters. Never hurt anyone. (or has it? OO)

I prefer the good old games that are perfectly open to Single-Player faffing-about, but have a strict default-files rule for playing online multi-player (unless mods are activated!).

Seriously if this was any other company in the world people would be up in arms, but with Blizzard it's fine, it's in their terms of service. The people payed for the product, as long as they don't go online they aren't hurting anyone and Blizzard should leave them alone. Ubisoft gets in trouble for having always online DRM, but Blizzard gets off scott free for banning people from the single player, seriously what the hell.

There are already cheats built-in to single player. Use those if you just want to dick around.

Cheating is cheating, so they should be banned permanently. I don't believe in second chances for scum bags.

You agree to the rules the first time you start the game up. You're well within your rights to decline them and return the game.

But that would involve reading them first, which I'm sure nobody does.

And that's a valid excuse to be exempt from them? =3

Good.

The game has built in cheats and an editor which allows the user to do just about anything they want if all they're looking to do is have some silly fun.

The only reason for using third-party cheats in SC2 would be to A: cheat online or B: cheat for achievements. Now A is despicable and frankly I hope every last online cheater is caught and banned, it just ruins the fun for everyone else. B is a bit less straight-forward since ultimately achievements don't mean anything, but still, a lot of players put time and effort into getting those and it's silly that others can just get them via some hack with absolutely no effort.

For the A crowd, ban them. For B I'd say a lighter punishment would be in order: temp ban and take away every last achievement they've got... hell, all save one, a custom achievement that says 'caught cheating' so that every time another player looks at their profile, they know who they're dealing with. They can still play the game, but they've also got to deal with the consequences of their actions. Maybe take that little bit of internet humiliating away after a few months of 'good behaviour' though the player would then have to re-earn any legitimate achievements.

But that's just me!

It doesn't matter. You still agreed to them.

The problem is that SP has a sort of scoring and achievement system and when you use all of these hacks and shit you are boosting all of these stats making it imposible for someone who is playing the game the way it is supposed to be played to rise up on the leaderboards. Honestly I thank Blizzard for doing this.

I really wondered how this forum reacted when Valve banned people for using an idle program to get items.

In any case, I really don't know why you would use trainers when there are implemented cheats you can use that practically does the same thing.

I haven't tried them, so I am just assuming. Don't those cheats disable achievements? o_O
