Blizzard Drops the Hammer on "Inappropriate" StarCraft 2 Maps

"Because we can" is one of the worst reasons ever. Ah well, their game. I'm not bothered because Starcraft doesn't interest me, but it is always worrying when a company takes a first step to control.

Where there is control, there is abuse.

There's also abuse where there's no control, of course, that's where it all breaks down. ^^

If it's really that big of a deal, should blizzard just add a button "enable flagged maps" so people can choose to play maps that have been flagged for whatever reason?

Honestly I don't see what the big deal is, what good things will be lost to this system?

You might not agree with what arguments I made "in favor" of porn related maps, but at least acknowledge the fact that I said over and over that this isn't even an issue.

And in response to whoever it was that went ahead and called everybody with any involvement or correlation with said maps a retard or whatever.. Really? Are we already pussified enough as a society that we freak the fuck out when we see a penis or a resemblance of a penis? Let the immature people have their fun, god. It's not like you saw a penis shaped map or a map named "hentai hour 152" and went "FUCK this game, I can't take this anymore". No, you just bloody ignored it, stop making such a fuss out of nothing. It's not like those maps were ever abundant, just as the oh-so feared spammers Blizzard was so afraid about they just took away chat channels altogether. In a whole day of playing just Warcraft 3, spending about 10% of that time through the game list, I'd never see more than 5 during the whole day.

Now that we got that out of the way, what does it take you to see that Blizzard is already fucking up on more things than there are fingers to count? And can you really not see the pattern here? Blizzard straight up bans any remotely offensive words (something you didn't pick up earlier in the thread) ---> now they say they'll ban whatever has got anything inappropriate. I'll say this again; if what the other guy said before - that his map got removed just for the word 'badass' in it, is true, we have a problem here.

I'm also right to voice my concerns. If this doesn't bother you, and the best you can muster as an 'argument' is that it's Blizzard's property, you really shouldn't be here. I think people deserve to have, at the very least, an opinion about things they don't own. And you know what, people's opinions change things aswell.

So what if you don't care if you see a bunch of dick shaped maps, how can you be AGAINST them moderating and trying to keep that garbage out?

I didn't see posts suggesting that they block too many words, perhaps you would like to present some examples?

If not caring to have porn thrown in my face while I play an online game is being a pussy, then fine, that's what I am, not everyone can be as cool as you, and love being shock porn spammed when playing your favorite online game.

Porn is fine on a porn site, and if I wanted porn, I'd go to a porn site, but when I'm playing Starcraft 2, I want to play Starcraft 2, not look at porn.

So what? Porn is all over the internet, people throw around shock imagery links to each other all the time. Do they have to be 18 to be to access the internet? Hell-fucking-no. People should be able to choose for themselves what is right and what is wrong.

They also should choose not to see dong if they so want it. You argument is biased a bit. Yeah, there's porn on the Internet yet there's parental control limiting those sites. You don't have the right and shouldn't have the mean to see porn before your 18 birthday. Also, people has the right not to find any dick levels funny. Maps containing words like "Suicide", "God", and "Blow" apparently in any of their triggers or dialogue can't even be uploaded to the Battle.Net btw.

To begin with, you're either uninformed or simply ignorant towards the way the (at least current) custom game system works. Something that's purposely porn material will never (read: never) become popular enough to even surface the top 500 maps popularity wise. Nothing new can even penetrate the top 20 as it is now, but with some changes, people with common sense would be what prevents such material from surfacing. So that's not an issue. Second, the name of the map should be an indicator of what you're about to see, even if you're scrolling through those over-500 placed maps.

And stop being so god damn hung up on the porn aspect of it. It has been said, time and time again, by me 2 times and other people in this thread alone, that this is FAR from the actual problem of this.

Wrong! Those genital maps doesn't always have a corresponding name. In fact, part of the creator's fun is to lure unsuspecting players there like all the jump scare video on Youtube. And while you are right about the Top 20, people doesn't like playing the same map over and over again. In the 10 or so years of Starcraft 1, how many players explored unpopular custom map to find something new? The fact is, there's right for people that does Dong level, but there's also right for those who don't wanna see them.

And if you [aimed at Penis level designer over 18] really need to make penis shape level, why don't you look at porn instead. You'll see enough dong to satisfy your need.

You're not serious are you...??? Also, to make it even more clear, a "map trigger" for instance is not a part a player of any map is actually able to see (unless he loads it into an editor and it isn't protected), but an invisible area on a map that when something walks over it or an event like "on-click" on a certain unit/building etc. something else happens.

Yes, i'm serious. Those triggers must be put in the map by the designer. If little Timmy put a trigger on one of his soldier that say: "Oh! MY! GOD!" Yeah, it's his fault. As for suicide, I don't think i have to spell it out why they should remove it. The only one that is ambiguous is Blow. It can mean Cunnilingus as well as to Explode or destroy something.

But trigger are, and will be, put there by the one that designed that custom map.

Can you still make them but just not share the maps. Because in halo 3 with forge, you can make what ever kind of map you want. You just cant put it on your file share

Oh no, Blizzard is filtering content that you share on THERE SERVERS. Really guys is this such a big deal. You can still make the maps, I a map shaped like a penis is the kind of thing that amuses you. You just can't give it to other people. From some of the comments here you'd think that Blizzard had just seized control of your computer and all files there in to do as they pleased.
