There's also the cultural subtext that it is shameful for a man to act like a woman. Playing into that is problematic to say the least.

People get their skirts up in the air these days over any little thing. Men and Women both. However, getting angry over lip balm is, I think, an all-time low for our species. At this rate, we'll probably go extinct due to low brain-cell count in a few dozen years. >_<

But yeah, I think you're right; there are WAAAYY to many blogs out there. To be truly honest, I don't even like blogs. I mean, I see their pluses and how it's a tool to reach other people, but that doesn't change how I don't like them.
an all time low for our species?

soooo slavery, the holocuast, the dark ages...that was just a little slip up compared to taking lip balm to seriously? :p
First of all, there's still slavery in different parts of the world. There are different kinds of holocausts against different kinds of people right now (remember the shit that was going on in Darfur?). And what was so bad about the Dark Ages? Bubonic Plague? Ha! One word: AIDS. Really, anything that happened 50 or more years ago is happening now in some form or another.

There's a lot more things I could mention, but I'm going to stop at what you said. In the past 10 years, people in general do not have as much common fucking sense as they did back in the 50's. That's what I'm talking about AND what I say in my post.

Yeah, actually, I agree. This is a stupid marketing campaign, though I'd say it's more misandric than misogynistic, it's basically saying that REAL MEN wouldn't want to drink diet drinks that are associated with women.

Stupid Dr. Pepper people.

Shit, seriously. It's not the cause of the problem, but it's indicative of this utterly fucked up notion our society has that men can't do anything "womanly," such as drink diet soda. Apparently not having the desire to be a total fat-ass or a muscle-headed douchebag makes one, as this is evidently an insult, "gay." The sooner the approximately 80%-90% of the male population who actually believes that bullshit pulls their collective head from their collective ass, the sooner our society can move forward.

And to that I say, shame on you, Dr. Pepper, for reinforcing, validating, and perpetuating that notion. And it's sad too, because I probably would have tried and enjoyed that beverage. I prefer Coke Zero and Pepsi Max over Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi any day, and this drink is apparently intended to be an equivalent. But because of the marketing campaign, I won't be drinking it.

Before you quote me, if you're just going to tell me to "stop taking it so seriously," or any variation thereof, kindly do not reply to this post. I take seriously anything that demonstrates a problem with our society, humorous or otherwise, and you're not going to change my mind about that.

you missed the point of what I was saying "low point for our species" is a little dramatic when talking about people complaining about lip balm

and compare the dark ageis to the western world now and tell me which is better

AND people having more common sense "back then".....Id like to see some hard evidence to back up such a claim OTHER than "omg man! you hear that story about that women who was so addicted to farmville her child dies? whats the world coming to!!??"

This is ridiculous. Anyone who has actually tasted Dr. Pepper knows that it isn't for anyone.
BLASPHEMY!I must say, I vehemently disagree with this sentiment, O ye of misguided taste buds. I noticed that you previously received a white glove to the face for this opinion - I will provide another. *White glove to the face*

I concur. I'd hesitate to praise people in the 50's for their common sense.

They held opinions like this:

They were scared of people like this:

And they raised kids that went on to behave like this:

That last picture is the most convincing point of your argument. I need to go watch a war movie now....

I'm all for equal rights, but damn people like the person who wrote that blog post piss me off to no end.

Why do you need to take offence to something like that? Or even worse, why the need to broadcast it. I don't think anyone at Dr. Pepper really want to alienate around 50% of their potential customers.

They made it to be provocative. Nothing more, Nothing less.

That is at the crux of my issue with the blogger and her post. It seems to me that there are people that have a strong love of waving the Sexism banner whenever they get the chance. Almost as if they feel more alive, and stronger as a person, if they can cry out sexism.

I believe it comes from a desire to embrace the victim mentality. Were I a betting man, I would put money on the claim that she wouldn't say anything against something like this if it were sexist against men. I have met far too many people like that to give the benefit of the doubt on that one. We live in a very sexually discriminating world. But it is sexually discriminating against Both Sexes, it all just depends on the topic.

Example off the top of my head (and it is important to try not to read anything else into this then what I say here. I am against it from either side): Why is it more socially acceptable for a woman to hit a man then a man to hit a woman? (I don't think it should be OK for either to hit the other save for self defense, or the physical defense of someone who can't protect themselves). And by hit, I don't just mean a punch. This goes for slapping as well. And I don't buy into the whole 'because a man is stronger then a woman' argument. Sometimes that is true, sometimes it isn't, but does it matter? Heck often the woman will have longer nails then the man, can that be taken into account? Can a 135 pound man who can barely lift a 40 pound bag then punch a bodybuilder and it be considered OK?

Reminds me a bit of the Yorkie bar adverts ("It's not for Girls").

Which was bloody good advertising.

Why is it more socially acceptable for a woman to hit a man then a man to hit a woman? (I don't think it should be OK for either to hit the other save for self defense,
The same reason it's more socially acceptable for a little weedy guy to hit a big strong guy - It's about perception of strength. We naturally root for the underdog.

A man hits a woman, he's abusing a helpless individual, a woman hits a man, she's standing up for herself.

It's not right, and given what happens in my local town centre every friday night (Chavettes battering each other with high-heeled shoes), it's entirely wrong - I should be allowed to break a womans nose if she tries to lob her 7" spiked heel at me, but socially, I can't.

C'est la vie.

And by hit, I don't just mean a punch. This goes for slapping as well. And I don't buy into the whole 'because a man is stronger then a woman' argument. Sometimes that is true, sometimes it isn't, but does it matter?
It shouldn't, but it does - unfortunately this won't go away as long as the feminist movement continues to focus on women being victims, and what we should do as a society to help those poor, helpless women gain equality, instead of on the direct empowerment of women, and what THEY should be doing to gain equality for themselves.

Dr Pepper kills sperm, and is probably harmful to women too.

No, I don't actually believe it, but I'll be damned if I'm going to have to stop telling people.

Wow. That tongue in cheek is so very firmly placed in there it's risking bursting through. Over the top is a good phrase.
Now, I can if I squint and put on thick-rimmed glasses see why people found find this sexist (in the right frame of mind, it IS sexist as hell) but the irony oozing from the seams makes it hard to take it seriously.

A fun rap, yes. A serious comment on men' VS women's culture? No.

Well, I really, really doubt that Dr Pepper wants to exclude approximately half the population from giving them money. It's just an ad that plays with the whole machho self-image that men can not drink diet sodas because "that's for women".
