So I was recently given blood bowl via steam by a friiend, mostly because she was frustrated and could not figgure out why she was getting her ass handed to her over and over again, unless playing on Easy setting.

I had some trouble gettinginto the game myself.. and was getting poundet on medium setting as well. I ussaly see it was below my pride to even touch a Easy setting (With the general exception of any Touhou game) .. But after making it alive (literally) out of my first games, I picked up the basics and were starting to have fun.

Starting as a Skaven team, I thought this might be just my team. they are very fast, they are very nimble and they can squeeze themselfes through the smallest of openings. Sadly though they also drop like flies when you punch them to the face and die even more easy when hit by something bigger then themselfes.
And even my Stormvermin that had Block, Tackle, Pile On, Mighty Blow and Horns, was bassicly punched across the field like nobodys business. (But he killed two Starplayers in his career, fuck yeah.)

So yah, Im kinda looking for a team thats suiting my needs a bit more... And because the whooping huge selection of teams is kinda making me cross-eyed, and because Im bore, I thought I might hit up my buddys on the Escapist and ask for your oppinion.

Also, tell me why YOUR chosen race is the best and why YOUR team kicks ass.

Bring it!

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I like my lizardmen, they have skins to run the ball, sauruses to beat peoples asses and kroxigoes to beat bigger peoples asses and they tend to be tougher then everyone esle

LizardMen - Scaley Vengence

just right mix of power and speed

albeit - they cant pass to save their lives

but give one of my skinks the ball and they will run the touchdown in 2 turns easy, and my Saurus and Krox holding the line just own anything that stands up to them :D

Meh, Lizardmen kinda left a very bad taste in my mouth.. i tried a few matches with them because I felt like the idea of having a set of string hard hitters and a set of nimble runners sounded nice.

Thouh after seeing that the Saurus have zero skills when they start, I spend four turns trying to pick up the ball with a skink and my Kroxi got killed during the first match from a dark elf blitz...

I mean come ON. Killed by a dark elf.. talk about racial disgrace.

Chaos.
I hear there's also some sort of ball in this game. never noticed it, too busy having my mutants attack everything.

[sub]I don't win very often. On Easy.[/sub]

Blood Bowl? AWESOME!

I play Skaven, my beloved Harrowing Hamsters, pulled straight out of the ranks of Clan Mors, my Warhammer Fantasy Skaven army.

And yes, I do mean in the actual boardgame. The PC game is fun, but nothing beats playing with a friend with your painted team, in a store league.

Chaos or Orcs depending on how I feel like smashing up the opposing teams on that day.

Both my Chaos and Orc teams hold a special place in my heart.

Not much in the way of style and finesse but watching a Minotaur or a Black Orc mushing up some little people really brings a tear of joy to my eye.

Although tactics are kind of limited with teams like that short of trying to take out the opposing teams blitzers/catchers as quickly as possibly then have my big guys hold back incase any linemen get through.

The problem with powerhouse teams like that is they are too slow to to do anything other than stomp first try and score later.

Going to have to try a Dwarf team at some point.

I play Norse and Amazons mainly. I like the explosive Glass Cannon play style of the Norse. All but the werewolves have AV 7 so they get injured just as easily as the other fragile teams but werewolves have Str 4 and Frenzy to start and every other player starts with Block.

Amazons get a raw deal on paper but the more they level the better they get(duh). Nothing spectacular but concentrating on core skills makes them fantastically good at a running/bashing game. Although Tackle completely screws you up at lower team values so Dwarves are nasty.

I used to be an exclusive Skaven player but getting the best out of that team requires a lot of fiddling about and lateral thinking. Gutterrunners are the best Blitzers oddly, if you pick the right skills.

Overall I'm pretty impressed with the digital versions of Blood Bowl, used to play it all the time when the board game came out.

Oh sidenote: Easy can be more difficult than the other difficulties because the AI takes more risks. Not a big deal when they go wrong but if they go right you are faced with crazy moves running the ball in which no player would normally consider.

Hard is the opposite, the AI doesn't take enough risks :/

If you are playing on PC there is an AI mod out there which makes the AI a much better player and you can really see the difference.

I prefer the tabletop game - the dice in the computer game always seem rather heavily weighted in favour of the computer.

(It's possible this is just my paranoia).

In any case, the Wood Elves are my lads of choice, predominantly because nobody can catch a Wardancer (although when they do, he gets rather heavily stomped on).

Other than that, I like the Orcs, they smash things, which I'm all about.

Lizardmen for me, the only team I've ever won a few games on. Except against those bastard Dwarves!

I've not played in ages, might load it up later and have a game.

That game is far too random. I spend ages picking teams and players and planning my next move and it all fails on the roll of a dice. Fuck that shit.

Lots of games have dice mechanics hidden below the surface, they serve very well to introduce the element of randomness found in the real world, what they don't do is completely negate all of the player's skill and planning which is what Blood bowl does.

Heh you wait until you have one of your best players fail a single Going For It roll AND reroll and die with the Apothecary giving me the choice between Death and Death :/ That was not a good turn.

My best team so far (haven't played a lot) is the amazons although the most fun has been my chaos :)
I also for some weird reason have a thing for the Khemri. I don't know why: they are slow, most can't take a hit and none can throw OR catch. But they are still fun.

So I had a rundown with the Amazons today... Good gods I thought my Skaven were frail. *frown* One would think a true amazon could take a punch to the face or two.

I think I'll give the Dark Elfes a try tomorrow. Those witches look like they can hit for a bitand acctually know how a ball looks like.

maybe he whole thing thing would not be that bad for me if, whenever I ask google for a strategy explanation or a beginners guide I get linked to the very same forum that seems to be down for days with a fuggin SQL error..

Ah well. Bedtime time for now and some dark elf punching tomorrow. *flops*

Norse. Werewolves.

What?
Hang on.

Edit: Ah, I see. It's really more the Teen Wolf variant than, you know, the good kind. Shame that.

Yeah the Necromantic team get "proper" werewolves... which just seems rude :/

It's pretty hard and can be unforgiving, but yeah when it works it's a brilliant game.

I haven't played all that much, just some random matches with a Dwarf team. I love those little bastards, just push the entire enemy team back with a long defensive line and slip a few high agi players through to score. Then again that is on Easy...

True, it can be very frustrating to see a perfectly planned plan get burned down because you fail some dice rolls. Even worse is when the odds are in your favour, like my team getting KO'd by freakin' Halflings.

Sadly, I was told that over here Blood Bowl has devolved into a novelty collector's thing, and barely played any more.

I love my Dark Elf team. I've got two Witches who are completely unstoppable, one of them has an improved agility score and the other has an improved strength score. The one with improved strength generally carves down the field using Mighty Blow and Dauntless, as well as having Block, Dodge and Sidestep which make her almost impossible to get rid of. The other one is just moving wherever she likes using a combination of Leap and her insane agility score.

Man, I haven't played it in a while... I really should.
