Uncontrollably? If not then you don't have to look, as long as you can keep relatively still during the start and calm while they are actually taking your blood.

It might be something of a goal to set yourself to try and help with your fear, if that sounds like an idea you would want to try.

I donated blood 2 days ago. I was called in before my time because they were getting a shortage of B+ blood and were desperately in need of it. So I'm sorry, but I can't donate blood for another 3 months. Unless the shortage problems happen again that is. I'm going to sign up for bone marrow donations too.

I can't give blood. Lived in UK for six months during the period of 1980-1996. Possible (unlikely) vCJD exposure. I could probably donate outside of Australia, but that's way too much effort.
I think this might be a global thing since you can't do that here either. I guess UK accepts blood because they don't have much choice, but I don't know. However you do have a very valid reason for not giving blood.

Have a word with the WHO to have a word with the Aussie blood donation service for being thick.

I'm in the UK, and I give blood. BSE wasn't the plague, for goodness' sake.

Question, does it count if I donate other people's blood?
Yes. Yes it does.

I have never donated blood.
I like the idea, but I always feel like I need someone to tell me to do it with them.
No one ever has.
Why don't you ask people to go with you? Couldn't hurt (well, the needle does a little).
Don't know people.

I'd gladly give blood extremely regularly if I was allowed. Being gay and sexually active apparently means I can't in a lot of countries

Well, I did have a fear of needles until 2 had to be jammed into my wrist so I can't use that as an excuse.

But honestly, I don't donate blood because, injecting stuff into my body is fine with me, but taking stuff out of my body with a needle freaks me right out.

I do have some friends who donate blood though, so they can just take my portion from them.

Right it's that point in the year again where after donating blood,
That time a year? I was my first time a year and a half ago, now I've been 4 xD
I go as often as I can so about 4 times a year, (once every 3-5 months) depending on when they arrive to my town.
But yeah, it helps people, it's good for your own body and some of the nurses look really good.
From Finland by the way so I don't get any money from it just free coffee, sandwiches and cupcakes. But that's enough for me :)

Then you're unlikely to get asked too.

I'm giving blood next week :)

I feel pretty strongly that everyone who can give blood should. I don't know what the situation is in the States, but in the UK we are shockingly short of donors. It's not that much trouble to do, barely affects you at all in the great scheme of things and it is literally life-saving. I also wish more people would consider other forms of donation too, like platelets and bone marrow, though admittedly those things are far more intrusive and unpleasant and would require a lot more contemplation.

Granted some people hate needles, but if there's any chance at all you might one day get over that then I'd definitely say to try it. I used to end up a shaking wreck at the mere thought of having a vaccination, but more or less forced myself to confront it so that I could give blood. I think I may have gone a bit too far in the other direction now though, as I've since become a big fan of piercings and tattoos :p

I meant that time of the year as everytime I donate (every 3 months) I make a thread trying to get people to donate.
An yeah its the same here in the UK I donate because I want to + the buscuits they have there are fucking great.

Huh... I just checked the rules for my country and apparently I can't donate because I weigh less than 45kg. I still think I could take it, but meh.

I love needles, and I used to donate blood as often as I was allowed. Then I went a few places, had my blood spilled a couple times in unsanitary conditions in said places... and I'm no longer allowed to give blood. Ever again.

Yeah, I don't understand that ruling it feels archaic somehow, surely with protection there isn't THAT much extra risk?

I tried to help the LGBT protest last year by saying to take an extra bag of my blood for every protestor until they said that'd kill me 5 times over. Still give blood though, O(rh)+ ftw

I'm not overly fond of bleeding either but I still do it. Or being asked "How are you feeling?" when "I have a HOLE in my ARM" is apparently a bad response *shrug*

Blood donation and chronic iron deficiency anemia do not mix well, I always go from looking like a vampire to looking like a ghost ghost.
