Blow: Consoles Are Handicapped by Corporate Culture

Yeah, I'm actually quite saddened to see the responses here. Calling him an asshole? It's as if he has insulted console gamers personally or something, not call out on the console manufacturers for the betterment of the users' experience.

I guess fanboys will be fanboys...

And it reminds me of The Atlantic interview, which portrayed Blow as a demigod, the last savior of games... and people came off seeing him as full of himself, even though it was the interviewer who made all those exaggerated claims, not Blow himself.

Have you missed the week where Blow flew around the world kicking every gamer in the nuts and his puppy (if the gamer did not own a puppy he bought them one) too?

The only handicap I see is processing power. Skyrim puts both consoles in a sleeper hold just by opening the inventory screen.

The easiest way to tell MS/Sony/Nintendo that their platform is shit, is to stop making stuff for it. The indie scene is large enough on PCs now that everyone and their children are doing indie bundles and at most of the computers that are being released now are more power than any current gen console, meaning they can play these games. Just move to the PC market, get your game on Steam/Desura/in some indie bundle and call it a day.

I wonder if anybody's mentioned the Ouya [http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ouya/ouya-a-new-kind-of-video-game-console] to him yet. Sounds like it'd be right up his alley, what with the whole "screw walled gardens" approach.

The Ouya will be lucky to see a launch let alone actually be successful. People are putting WAY to much faith in that thing.

I saw a Skype interview with Blow recently on Destructoid and he seemed like a really cool guy. Thoughtful and insightful. Not arrogant or sanctimonious like I've heard people say he is.

Yeah, well, no. He's an asshole. If you look at the background of his little feud with MS you'll see why.

Agreed. I wish he'd shut the fuck up and get on with creating games, which he clearly has a talent for. Braid made him a metric fucktonne of cash and then he whinges about the experience post-release. If it is that big a pain in the arse why not raise these issues while you are developing the game, rather than pocketing the money and saying how much the whole thing sucks.

I guess I can see what he's getting at; the 360 has the worst dashboard ever. The one before it was fine. You had your nice personal section where you could see all of your data like achievements, setting, profile, etc. It was all yours. The ads were in the sections DEVOTED to ads.
With the new one, you've got some giant add talking about how much family fun you can have with the new disney all-stars game, while being extremely out of place compared to my Gears of War 2 background featuring chainsaws. I don't even like Gears anymore, but I still have that background just to spite the goofy advertisments.

However, this still doesn't change the fact that I utterly despise Blow, and every time he talks I envision a putrescent and foul smelling stream of smugness, self-praise and molten stupid pouring from his mouth, slowly filling the room.
