I'll keep democracy, thanks. At least when we invade an African country we can fuck it up properly.
Colonialist superpowers were democracies now?
THEY couldn't effectively fuck up African countries either. I'm thinking more along the lines of

I think it's wholly important to open the BNP up to public debate. The only people who benefit from demonising and silencing the BNP is the BNP themselves. I'll be watching.

Freedom is an absolute, either you have in its entirity of you do not. Freedom of speech should be granted to all even if their views are horrid, short sighted and inhuman.
Can you please explain to me how somebody becomes the leader of a political party (illegitimate political party, mind you) without using the right to free speech?

You can't, that's how. By your logic, The fact the BBC has never invited Barry Chuckle on question time is a direct violation of his free speech.

Good on the protesters.

Not to say everything they do is justified, but it's a damn good sign that people are against them this much.
Really? I was running on the analogy they didn't have anything better to do.

I think everyone in this topic has the same view. Anyway, there's three ways Griffin could walk out of their a happy man:
1. He gets shouted down by the audience and therefore might as well not have appeared.
2. Ignores the questions about his extreme views, gets away with it and brings up questions about extreme views in islam.
3. Gets something thrown at him, therefore having to leave.

I don't know whether anyone's been following the protest outside the BBC television centre, but as I type, they're showing images of police in riot gear holding the gate shut with bodymass alone, whilst a raging crowd behind it tries to force them open. This, I'm told, happened WHILST the programme was recorded. After the news, it's going to finally be broadcasted.

If something big happens with the BNP within the next few years, in the history documentaries of the future, they'll surely show the "Battle for the BBC gate" in it.

I wasn't saying that Question Time is the be all and end all of freedom of speech, I agree that would be stupid. Actually all I was saying is that Nick Griffen appearing on Question Time is a wonderful example of Freedom of Speech. My second sentance merely pointed out that you cannot have freedom of speech for only a certain type of viewpoint and not for others. Either you accept all types of political opinion or you no longer have free speech.

And the last I looked Nick represented a party that gained enough public support to get a seat in the EU. Like it or not the BNP viewpoint is hardly rare. If the Green party can appear on Question Time or if UKIP can then Nick Griffen deserves his chance. Personally I despise racism but like I said I love the fact that Nick can stand up and represent a party with views a lot of people (rightly) hate without fear of censorship.

And the BNP is a legitimate party, it could technically be voted into power over this country (God forbid this would ever happen, i think I'd have to emigrate).

It's being broadcasted now, and I couldn't help but come on here and say that Jack Straw's World War speech was well put

I can't stop watching him squirm.
The line he just said was priceless.
"*some guy* was a leader of a KKK clan which was entirely non-violent"

What a jackass.

after watching it most of the people who where asking questions looked like cock fags. Nick Griffin appeared to be a well spoken man with a well thought out position that I may disagree with but have no need to be hostile towards.

Apparently everything he's said in the past 20 years is a mis-quotation. I can't believe the balls on this guy. To stand for office is bad enough, but to have the front to appear on a live television debate is mind-blowing!

EDIT: I suppose that's what makes democracy and freedom of speech great though, we give these people a chance to make themselves look stupid.

I've just switched it on, and already got a debate with my flatmate about whether they deserve to be on there. While I don't agree with what they say, the fact that they've recieved as many votes as they have means they have the right to appear on the BBC.

I dispise Griffin though... Here's to the audience and politicians shooting him down.

lol, send them to Antarctica, genius. I personally don't think they should go, I think we need to separate them and introduce them to at least one incredibly friendly immigrant. Their ideas will be shattered by the reality of the situation.

Anyway, bloody immigrants, coming here, taking our low paying jobs that most people have too much self respect (or rather are too egotistical) to do, contributing marvelously to our economy, creating a great mix of culture so ours is an enlightened country greatest in upholding values like sharing, welfare and community support. They should all just go home, eh?

The white middle class youth has spoken.

To be honest, they're all nutters really.

It was fun watching Griffin stutter though.

Griffin spent the entire show going from extreme to mildly extreme, desperately trying to find a common ground with the panel and the audience.

He failed miserably!
