So, as some of you might remember, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick, was quoted saying this, last week:

"Bungie are a very unusual company. They're probably the last remaining high quality independent developer."
The speech was marginally longer than the sentence above, but I'd prefer not to post the whole thing. If you want to read more on that, click here [http://kotaku.com/5559201/a-delightful-chat-with-the-most-hated-man-in-video-games].

Of cours this has created somewhat of a stir in the developer-community as of late, so in response to this, former Bungie executive vice president, and current president of Atomic Games, Peter Tamte, wrote Bobby a letter. See it below.

Mr. Kotick:

You were quoted saying that Bungie is the last remaining high quality independent developer. As a former executive vice president of Bungie, I need to tell you: If this is true, you're screwed.

Activision and every other big publisher have grown by acquiring independent developers. The industry needs a constant supply of new independent developers to buy because they're the ones creating innovative games that become franchises.

Gears of War. Portal. Borderlands. None of these games re-hashes the same old formulas. They innovate. And, they're made by independent developers, of course.

So, we challenge you.

You've called Activision the industry's online leader. If you think the newest Call of Duty online experience is that innovative, let players buy just the online part of Call of Duty Black Ops and charge them a fair price.

In fact, we'll make you a deal. Let consumers buy just the online part of Call of Duty, and we'll give you a starring role in our new online game, Breach. Trust me, starring in your own videogame would give you huge street cred. We've even mocked up a screenshot to show you how cool you'd look in Breach.

As an independent developer, Atomic can't spend its way to big sales, like Activision can. We have to innovate. So, if you're confident Activision can innovate without independent developers, this is your opportunity to prove it.

Sincerely,

Peter Tamte
President
Atomic Games
Here's the screenshot:

Think he'll take the challenge? One could always hope!

Nice. Kotick has a penchant for putting his foot in his mouth, but it hardly matters when he has CoD to sit back on (and of course Blizzard's mad cash flow). I hope he takes the challenge! Really do!

Also that screenshot is hilarious!

The worst part is, Kotick might listen to this and offer an online-only COD.

Then he'll say $60 is a "fair" price. *sigh*

I would laugh if darth kotick took up such a challenge, though we all know bobby will most likely act as if it was never sent or he didn't read/get it.

Guess we wait to see if a responce is given.

Has that guy been reading this site 'cos it sounds rather familiar.

Will he stuff take the challenge, he is probably more likely to shut down call of duty.

I bet an indie dev could make a game, put Bobby kotick as the final boss, but call it Bill kitick and it sell like hot cakes 'cos people have a chance at killing him.

If he really does get put into Breach, I think sales would double from all the people who want to shoot Kotick.

With Bobby, I'd say 60$ a month would be a fair price.

I lol'd at the picture xD

I was almost expecting him to release Black Ops Multiplayer and Singleplayer separately. In fact I'm surprised it wasn't done with MW2.

It'll never happen. I'd love it to, it'd be even better if he was a silent character with a permanent stupid grin like the picture, but he doesn't have the balls to do a online only COD, even if it would work.

Hilarious letter though, I wish he'd call them on that.

Relying on people's desire to shoot one, of the most hated men, ever. Sounds like a golden idea.
I'm almost inclined to pay for it.
Alto, I would prefer the real thing. Televised.

I'm hoping he snatches at that bait, just to see the reactions from the fanbase that powers his franchise. We will finally get to answer the question: Are they sheep, or are they people?

The fecal matter has officially hit the oscillator! What will Bobby do now?
I applaud Peter for giving Kotick shit. The man who is CEO of a Activision, and doesn't know how games should be made.
