Your opinions?

Just your regular piercings and tattoo's.
Personally, I love them! I have quite a number of piercings and 5 tattoo's so far. (One of which is to do with Portal, I dunno if this is good or bad?!)

Do you think they're still taboo in society and people need to lighten up and accept they're an art form? Or do you think they're hidious and should be covered up and not be on show in a work enviroment or anywhere for that matter.

I think it's a shame people do hate them as much as a claim, but I have no problem taking my piercings out for work/certain social events and my tattoo's, albeit, quite big, are very easy to hide.

One big problem I do have, though, is how people still seem to think it's wrong for a Female to have either. I'm forever getting "Aww, why did you do that to your face" "You don't have to have these tattoo's, your a lady!" but it's ok for men /minirant.

It's because women are beautiful by nature, men are intimidating. In my opinion, the natural beauty of a woman doesn't need to be augmented or covered. I assume that's how the other people feel too.

I love seeing girls with piercings or tattoos. Even though I am the kind of guy who would never get either. I think body mod in general is pretty cool. Or at least the idea of it is. Ignore those jerk-faces. For they are the jerk-faceiest.

I was expecting a discussion on the topic of cyborgs and the likes. Improving our bodies with technology.

As for my opinions on piercings and tattoos; I sort of dislike piercings, but I like tattoos. I just sort of dislike the idea of having something permanently stamped on my body. I'm sort of bad with permanent decisions.

I think that there are as many different stories behind tattoos as there are tattoos. For the late-teens or young-adults who get tattoos solely to *ahem* "Rage Against the Machine" (not the band, the state of mind), it's absolutely ridiculous, and I can guarantee them that within the next... 5-6 years, they will regret getting them in the first place.
As for the people who get them for a specific reason, like to honour someone who has passed on, or in support of someone because they're going through something (for example, their... sister is going through... breast cancer).

As for piercings, I think that, if done well, they can be very tasteful, even eyebrow or other, more unusual places.

I don't mind little stretched ears, but those big huge ones are scary! My friend's are about 30mm, he wonders why he hasn't been able to get a decent job since leaving Uni.

Ahh, I have 4 lip piercings -sob-

Not anything I'd personally consider getting.

I don't think they're really taboo any more around where I live, but if there are anyone who have a problem with them (anywhere) they should lighten up and accept them as part of harmless plurality.

Private employers of course have the right to put uniforms on their employees to make them fit into the overall marketing image, and that would include the right to requirements about absence of visible piercings (and religious headwear etc.), insofar as the rules apply to everyone in equal employment situations and are founded in legitimate commercial concerns.

I have been thinking of getting a tattoo for a while. Problem is when I have money I don't like any ideas and when I have the ideas I don't have the money.

Even the littler ones, it's just... bwah. "If I can put my finger through your ear, it's weird" is my rule.

I guess the plus of piercings is they are removable (I'm talking lips, ears, nose etc. I have no idea about those under your skin ones) so if someone really is offended by them, you can remove them.

Depends how ugly they are.

OT: I don't get piercings on guys, but I think I would get a tattoo if I really had a good design or whatever.

I am such a whore for piercings and tattoos.
The only one I dislike is bridge and lip piercings with jewlery like this:

I also adore guys with spacers 14mm is best!
But I still like guys who don't have any.
I would have tattoos if I still did not live at home because I know My dad would disown me if I had them.
They are fine for some settings but for my profession(esthetician), they are sort of frowned upon but they are not shut out completely. You just need to wear the proper clothing and jewlery when you go to work. There is a time and place for everything.

Love tattoos (not got any yet cause I'm kinda perpetually broke), indifferent to piercings.

I think of tattoos and piercings like I think of clothes. Sometimes, like for some types of work or social functions, things should be covered and removed IF it's something so blatantly inappropriate for the situation, e.g., if someone works with young children and has visible swear words or nudity on their skin. Or maybe if someone's at a corporate business meeting and has multiple facial piercings. Just as you'd dress appropriately for the occasion, do your hair and whatever else, you should take it into consideration. Honestly, though, I think the hate/prejudice needs to cool down a little.

As for people thinking it's wrong for a female to have a tattoo, I ignore them. I think if it's my body, if I want to ink it I will, and if I regret it then that's just my problem. Same for men as well, I guess.
