I have no idea what it's like with the windchill. Damn iPhone weather app not telling me that...
This site has the windchill, if you wanted to know it. [http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/city/pages/mb-38_metric_e.html] (it's on the bottom right of the current conditions box)
It's not the "official" temperature, but it's nice to know that the -15 is in fact coupled with a wind that brings it down to -28.

Winnipeg winters seem to go one of two ways. Clear but cold as hell, or fairly mild with a bunch of snow. Even I tremble at the thought of them combining for the worst...

Well, currently it says "calm" next to the wind thing, so I guess right now it feels -13 too... Which is nice, at least it's not somewhat cold and windy as hell like it can be...

LOLZ I'm in Southern OR and we get school off if they think it is going to snow "hard"(1/2 in of snow)

No joke, last year we got off because of that reason and guess what... it was a sunny day.

Its pretty pathetic but hey when people complain about it getting to around 15F at night what can you expect.

I live in Erie Pennsylvania. Every year we get slammed with so much cold and snow that have literally become immune to it. So if you're in the southern part of the country, don't come crying to me because you had to shut the city down due to an ich of snow. You will get no sympathy from me on that matter. Here. it's not a snow day unless the roads, phone lines, and cars are completely encased in ice. And even then, it's only a 2 hour delay.
AMEN BROTHER! I lived 45 minutes south of Erie, and in the middle of Winter, you could drive through our city, and not even realize there was a city there.

yeah im in the midwest, but im used to it? we get different weather everyday during the day, it'll be raining/sleet on one side of the building and blinding sunlight on the other.

but personally, i prefer the cold, i get so damn hot so this feels great to me, its currently zero degrees exactly and with a coat and jeans on its not too bad.

the only thing that actually starts to bug me is when the 40 mph winds roll in (which its picking up like crazy, some dudes snowman got blown over outside lol)

so yeah with windchill its going to get to -30 i think overnight, we probably will still have school though..my uni is the only school, literally the only, within a good 100 mile radius that hasn't closed today or a few weeks ago when everyone else got off too.

Irish weather forecast: Cold to some!

What i mean by this is that there is loads of people complaining about cold, yet i'm wierd so i seem to be affected by the cold less than others. I hate heat, though. I complain about that far more than others.

I'm in northern Illinois and we have the blizzard hitting us right now, but I'm not bitching about it. I just got back from walking about 2 miles in it.

I like when it's cold cause I get to wear jackets. It's not hard to stay warm, you just gotta layer all over.

I'm in New Mexico, we hardly ever get snow. there's really not that much, but schools (and universities, whoohoo!) are closed nonetheless. Also, it's really, really, REALLY, cold and windy.

I am in Wyoming and we got a bit of snow Monday night. I think it reached around -50 C later at night. That, plus we already had at least a few inches of snow and ice (mostly ice) from the last snowstorm that refuses to even consider melting away.

No school closures here, but still plenty of complaining. It's just after noon here and it's about -30 C. And man am I tired of the complaining...shit, yes, it's cold, but deal with it. I don't even have a car so I have to walk anywhere I want to go. I get a bit of an evil smirk whenever I hear people complaining about the walk from building A to building B 50 meters away.

Mmmkay, end rant. Anyways, for those who may also be caught in this 'storm', how has it affected your daily routine so far? IS it really that bad?
In WI, at least, it isn't the cold (it was nice today with temp at about 0C, we fixed our dog door even) but more the foot of snow we got this morning and the other foot and a half to two feet tonight with wind gusts up to 50mph. We're getting snowed into buildings more than too cold to move.

It's all about aclimation and what the area has come to expect.

Years back in a Kansas City school district we had a new superintendent who was in from Chicago. We received a nasty storm by our standards, but a storm that was nothing by Chicago standards. Because Kansas City didn't have the budget for street and interstate snow and ice removal that Chicago did, the amount of snow that came down hit us harder then he was used to. He didn't call school off untill we had a few buses slide down four lane streets sideways.

Really, I'd guess if you had a 95+ degree day up there you'd have a major issue with heat related deaths. It's not talking trash, it's just what people are used to. It doesn't matter where you are. If a population is pushed outside of what it's used to, it will hit the news and probably cause complaints if not deaths.

my opinion on this can be summed up in two words "FUCK SNOW" I live in the awesome town of Erie, PA where we live by the code told to us by the principal "if I can make it to school so can you" and i swear to god those guys live in the school or live right next door to it. and as such i have never experienced what some of you call "snow days"
