The Song of Ice and Fire series
While it's not a movie, HBO is releasing a TV show some time in April (I think we're going to have an official date tomorrow.)

i would suggest any of the hitchikers guide to the galaxy books mainly because i'm reading them at the moment and they are pretty hilarious, but i think they made the 1st one into a film so that probably puts them all off limits. the hobbit maybe? technically it's not a film yet.

on a slightly more helpful note: you might try 'contract' by Simon Spurrier it's about a british contract killer and his decent into madness...kind of well it's hard to explain but i really enjoyed it, although as the subject matter might suggest it's quite violent and graphic in places so maybe a school project isn't the place for it, but read it some other time, it's weird violent, funny and just generally good.

I can see that working out better than a movie.

Have you seen the trailers? The show is looking pretty damn good from what I've seen.

Neil Gaiman's American Gods.
I would watch the hell out of that, loved that book.
Only if Gaiman wrote the screenplay himself.
I heard his Neverwhere TV series was good (was turned into a book later).
And I love MirrorMask (which he wrote).

I have all the trailers up in this user group http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/Winter-is-Coming, just scroll through the page and you'll see them, the oldest ones are in the FAQ and the newest (and longest one) is near the top.

Night Angel Trilogy by Brent Weeks.
Saga of Seven Suns Series by Kevin Anderson.
Cities in Flight by James Blish.
Stainless Steel Rat by Harry Harrison.

Some of the best books I've ever read.

Shadowmancer - GP Taylor is pretty awesome. I read it when I was younger and just got it again.

Most films made from books are disappointing and I hate to see a good book ruined. However, in the spirit of the thread:

The Legacy of Herot - Larry Niven, Jerry Pournelle and Steven Barnes
