Metro is actually done very well for a book to game. But for a series I'd like to have a shot is Harry Potter. First no actually Harry, get rid of that story. Simply be set in the universe. Another one I'd like would be Eragon. Like Harry Potter I don't like the books, but if this game was to be in the universe of Eragon, it'd be pretty cool. Set in the time when there were dragon riders, and that game world be pretty solid.

Metro 2033, the difference is huge but the game is good, it explains the story well and keeps the game really good, just wished more elements from the book were added
While I kind of agree, I think that most of the stuff they left out, like the rat racing and the Children of the Worm wouldn't have converted to gameplay as well as the stuff they left in. As it was, we got a pretty accurate telling of the same story that was well paced and absolutely nailed the tone and feel of the setting.

As for the original question, I'd love to see a Red Dead Redemption style game set in the dark Tower universe, playing as a Gunslinger in Mid World.

What book series or certain book would like to see adapted into a video game, only for it to be absolutely AWESOME?

I would like to see a Redwall video game adaptation.

How about you?
As a fan of the series, this suggestion intrigues me. Though, I really see this as just an all-animal version of Fable.

OT: Jokingly, The Sun Also Rises by Hemingway. Press X to take a drink. Press Y to muse on your impotence. Press A to make a racist remark.

Seriously...how about Lord of the Flies? Far Cry with the uncomfortableness of dealing with children characters. Could be good.

Pride & Prejudice & Zombies

Would be an game where you have to balance building your relationship with the elegeable young man/woman of your choice and destroying the vile revenants that seek to dine on your delicious brains.

Could have different outcomes, such as the Pyrrhic victory where you get your man/woman but are eaten by the undead hoard at your wedding because you did not do enough to fight them. Or could have you wipe out the undead, only to find your beloved has married the rich other person.

Disturbingly, I'm actually starting to think this is a good idea...
Oh good lord, I would play the hell out of that game. And not just because I could kick ass and romance Mr. Darcy.

OT: I think something set in the world of Brave New World could have some potential. You'd have to get a bit creative with the storyline, but it could be brilliant- the society in the novel is based off of visceral pleasure, after all. It could actually get into some intriguing commentary about our society and video game culture.

In general I think book to video game would be about as enjoyable as Movie to Video game adaptions. That said a lot of authors have made a lot of interesting fictional settings that it would be interesting to design a video game for. I think you could get away with stealing an already developed setting for a video game, but not an already made plot.
Metro 2033, S.T.A.L.K.E.R (based of a book called "roadside picnic apparently) and the witcher are all books made into games. Movie games areterrible, I ony played metro 2033 but it was great, peopl love the other 2 aswell.
Roadside Picnic was what the movie Stalker (1979) was based on, and the game based off that.

Actually The Witcher Games take place after the novels end, and aren't 100% faithful to the novels, they are pretty close but not exactly. You can't say they are book to game adaptations they are how ever games that use the same setting and characters.

Most of the books I read would make terrible games, so I'm going to have to dig into books I read as a young teen.

Either a Point & Click Adventure or Action Adventure of Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events.

A comedy/horror game based on the Clue book series, using the character's personalities from the first 6 volumes. The replay value could be endless.

RPGs based on Slayers & Gensoumaden Saiyuki.

GetBackers & Hunter x Hunter; a blend of Street Fighter style combat & Myst; looking for shit & fighting.

Something like Lord of the Rings Online, but a singleplayer game with less convoluted crafting.

A Harry Potter MMORPG.

Oldschool 2D RPGs of Alice in Wonderland & The Wizard of Oz, based on the books & not the movies.

The Night Angel Trilogy would make some awesome games if they were handled correctly. Make the game play like a cross between Assassin's Creed and the Thief games and I think you'd have some game of the year material.
